And here it is, the big elephant in the room exposed. Stefan has blood lust issues, that is the reason why he wanted to be with Elena in the first place because she was human, he could pretend to be human avoid human blood and be merry. Now Elena is a vampire and she has to feed. They tried the animal diet and Stefan was pushing her to be like him, not to have to be around human blood and be tempted. But that isn’t a viable option, so she has to feed on human blood and to Stefan is a big problem and it is also a great divide, because as vampire couple are less than ideal. The whole conversation between Stefan and Caroline is him acknowledging the problem. Elena in her hallucination is doing the same, she is admitting what she already knew deep down, she is like Damon, more than she would ever care to admit. Already in the last episode of the last season, the writers show us the “if I have meet you first” thing and let us know that Damon and Elena actually meet first, why? To insinuate that the choice she made was the wrong choice. Now, in becoming more and more obvious the fact that Elena being no longer human bring out all the reasons why Stefan and Elena are less than ideal and it makes more and more obvious to Elena why she feel more comfortable with Damon, why she confides in him, why she feels that him can understand her more than Stefan and why she doesn’t feel judged. Elena and Stefan relationship was born out of mutual relief, Stefan wanted to feel human and normal around human and Elena, being the physical copy of Katherine and being the person he though she would be, an angel, before he know she was a vampire and ruined everything for him, gave him the perfect opportunity to relieve his human life as he image should have been. Elena needed someone to help her out of the grieving period to make her feel alive again. The loss of Alaric a parental figure in her life brought back memories of that period, and Stefan is very much linked to it. Plus, with all that happened Stefan and Elena never choose to split up, were the circumstances that split them apart. So, Elena under pressure and with frightful events happening, she chose what she knew, what was familiar, what felt safe and sound, Stefan. But now things have changed and are evolving, Elena is not in a grieving period anymore, she is a vampire now, she is adjusting to a new life, a different life, she is growing up, and learning to be who she is now. Becoming a vampire is a beautiful allegory of growing up, Elena is holding on to her childhood, but her new life, her adulthood, her future is pushing through, asking her to let go with the past and embrace her future as woman with everything that that brings, including the loss of innocence.

2021-09-23 16:04:47 +0000 UTCCaroline and Stefan need to be on the screen together far more often I luv them! I really enjoyed the use of werewolf venom hallucinations to get Rebecca and Elena to confront the inner truths they have been burying and ignoring.

2021-09-23 00:07:31 +0000 UTCYeah then Rebecca killed Elena AND Alaric and nearly killed Matt after Elena made a deal with her and Damon saved her from Alaric. I’d say they are more than even and Rebecca deserves her current persona non grata status. She needs to work her way out of this hole she has dug and she clearly knows it. Instead of apologizing or feeling bad about what she did (at least Elena felt bad for what she did) she is taunting Elena. Elena has the capacity for forgiveness and so does Stefan if Rebecca sought it. I really wanted them to be friends last season. I still do I really like Rebecca but she is where she is...
