Artemis DevLog

Hey everyone!

Thank you for all the comments and messages left regarding the recent chapter. A lot of work was put into this one and I am glad it is finally released. The Mac versions seem to be giving issues it seems. I had one person mention having an issue with the patch, so I'll be restoring the 4.1 download link for Mac users while I continue to look into it.

My eye procedure went well. Been mostly keeping it shut since I can't wear my contact on my right eye until Friday, when I get the bandage contact removed. Looking forward to being 100% again.

Even though I was supposed to be on a post-release break, I've been working on things here and there. Writing notes for CH5, going through the textures of the models and re-organizing my database. Just getting things cleaned up and ready before CH5 development starts.

I've also put Steam back on my docket and had a couple of people bring something to my attention regarding Steam. My current tier method will get Artemis removed from Steam if I keep it when it comes to releasing on Steam. Referring to the TI-86 and T-800 tiers Steams documentation states under Rule number 4:

The Early Access price of your game should be no higher than that offered on any other service or website. Please take care of your customers on Steam.

Here is a link to the documentation itself (Under Rules #4) Early Access (Steamworks Documentation) (steamgames.com)

This means if I continue to offer the Artemis at the $1 and $5 tiers, I will be violating their rules and Artemis will be removed. This is disappointing for me as I hate backtracking on my word, however since I am doing this full-time now. I have to be extra diligent so as to not violate policies. (Just like the music situation)

All that said, I will continue to offer CH4 at the $1 and $5 tiers until November 11th. I said I'd offer this Chapter at the lower tiers so I will do what I can to offer it for a time. But I will have to return back to the old tier rewards and no longer offer CH4 and future chapters, so I'm not put in a bad position with Steam. I sincerely apologize for this bit of news.

I did contact Steam for some clarification in case there's a way I can still offer it here on the lower tiers, so I hope to hear some good news when they reply back.

This week I will be doing more database cleaning and organizing. But mostly unwinding before the next development cycle begins. I'm also going to be changing the time I post DevLogs. They'll still be on Mondays, but...actually ON Monday at 12 PM PST. When I was doing my day job, I would pack my Sat and Sun with as much Dev time as possible, I usually wrapped up around 11PM, so would post my DevLogs around then. Now that I can better manage my development time, figure it would be nice to post a DevLog after some rest and a clearer mind.

thank you all and have yourselves a great week.

A couple of questions. I have no problem purchasing a game in dev't. I subscribe at the $1 level cause I can afford that, even over the course of a year. But, if I can buy the game in dev't for $15 and not have to keep paying every time it gets updated, I'm fine with that. So, the larger question is what will happen? Will it be just a single price with access to updates when they come out?

Just finished Ch4 too. This was amazing work. I've laughed more on your VN than any other I have played thus far. My favorite VN for sure. I can't wait to see what Ch5 brings. I wish you a fast recovery from your eye procedure. So pumped to see Artemis in action (and more of Zelda; that girl melts my soul).

The finale of this chapter and the change to the main menu left me awestruck 🤩👍😭🤗🥰 - just WOW !

Most Devs release for the higher tiers (usually $20 and up) first and then release for the next lower tier ($10) 3 or 4 days after and then each lower tier 3 or 4 days after the last, some do weekly releasing, ex: $20 tier and then 7days later $10 tier and 7 days $5 tier and I've never heard of them having any problems with Steam or Patreon, although you already do something like that, but you probably should contact a few other devs and ask them, maybe ask Drifty since you know him.

Some Devs handle this by having the 'full download' only available at the Tier matching the Steam price, while lower tiers can access a 'patch only' download that requires having the base version already. Edit: for myself the file size is such I will probably prefer to update via Steam when that becomes an option anyway, assuming chapters are released there at the same time.

Digi do what you need to with Steam and we all understand, you must keep that door open even if some of their rules are stupid. Best of luck on the eye recovery, do what your doc says. I love this AVN a good blend of flawed protagonists and just good overall caring and likable characters. Excepting the evil corporation tools... :-)

So you arent gonna rock a sexy ass eyepatch for the rest off your life? :P

I agree, and honestly I might be in the wrong but yeah… Anyway! I hope for the best for Digi and a speedy recovery! Already waiting patiently for more!

I think I understand. but then that should be 'no higher than THE LOWEST price elsewhere'. not just 'not higher than'. as that would link to the HIGHEST price on patreon. I blame steam.

Hans-Olav Tangen Bråtun

Unless Digi plan on selling the game for 1 dollar on steam, he will have breached what the quote mentions. I guess Digi plan on charging 10 bucks or more for the game on steam, hence if people who pledge for 1 or 5 will be able to get it at a lower price. “The Early Access price of your game (10 bucks on steam, as a example), should be no higher than that offered on any other service or website (1 or 5 bucks on Patreon)”

René Jørgensen

I don't see how the quote would prevent you from delivering the game at a LOWER price. it merely keeps the EA price from being higher than the highest tier price. does not seem to affect tier behavior at all.

Thank you for your hard work Digi. Chapter 4 was amazing.
