Expanded Review: Sweet Wife’s Morning Send-Off Episode 9-1

Hello everyone!

As I mentioned earlier, this time I’d like to review Episode 9-1 in order to clarify the flow of the story. Rather than reviewing the entire episode from start to finish, I’ll focus on the points that many readers may have found confusing or questionable.

With that said, let’s get started.

Why did Hayoon leave Jinwoo behind?

I believe this is the point where most readers felt the strongest sense of confusion. After all, Hayoon has become the Godmother, wielding overwhelming power—so it’s natural to wonder why she would leave Jinwoo behind.

To understand this decision, however, we need to view the situation from the organization’s perspective. Just as we, the readers, measure Hayoon’s love through Jinwoo, the members of the organization measure her love through Trevi. In other words, Jinwoo is the protagonist of this story from our point of view, but from the organization’s perspective, Trevi is the protagonist.

What they care about is beauty, intelligence, talent, and charisma. Their only question is whether “Bella,” who possesses all of these qualities, is truly devoted to Trevi—one of their own. To them, Jinwoo is a complete outsider, whereas Trevi is a core member of the organization.

For this reason, support for Hayoon (Bella) within the organization was weak. From their perspective, she had not been fully “trained” as a member of the organization, and still seemed to value her husband Jinwoo more than Trevi.

Trevi himself was keenly aware of this, and tried desperately to claim Hayoon as his own—going so far as to use lies and manipulation he normally would not have resorted to.

※ Scene where Priest Lee Taegon, disguised as Trevi’s confidant, advises him (Episode 5-3, page 67)

From the organization’s standpoint, the relationship between Trevi and Bella was fundamentally incomplete. Naturally, she was not an ideal candidate for Godmother. And yet, despite this, the council placed her among the candidates.

Why? Because she demonstrated extraordinary talent in Melina, which the organization reveres as sacred. Given that many high-ranking positions in the organization are held by former trainers, there were quite a few who were utterly captivated by Bella’s almost unbelievable aptitude.

Now, let’s turn our attention to Kayla, Bella’s rival. From the organization’s perspective, her story is almost perfect. She came to deeply love Kingston, who had once been her sworn enemy, and the most dangerous adversary they faced had completely defected to their side.

At that point, the momentum was clearly on Kayla’s side. This is also why the Godmother handed members of the council over to her, and why she allowed Priest Lee Taegon to assist in Jinwoo’s abduction—Kayla’s position simply carried more justification.

Kayla’s strategy, then, was simple, crude, yet devastatingly effective. All she needed to say was this: “Isn’t your husband far more important to you? Does Trevi—or even the position of Godmother—really mean anything to you? Does this organization mean anything to you at all?”

Faced with this question, Hayoon had no choice but to give the “wrong” answer. Her most precious person was in mortal danger, and she had just been cruelly hurt by Jinwoo—who was acting under Kayla’s manipulation. Under normal circumstances, anyone would have broken and submitted to Kayla. And at that moment, the immersion of those who supported “Trevi × Bella” would have completely collapsed. Hayoon would have lost her entire base of support, leading to her total downfall—and Jinwoo would have been eliminated by the organization.

But Bella did the unexpected. She declared herself the Godmother. A variable completely outside of Kayla’s expectations had emerged. Caught off guard, Kayla failed to respond appropriately and lost control of the situation.

Even so, the Godmother did not immediately recognize Bella as her successor. There was still one crucial issue Bella needed to resolve.

So what was it? She needed to earn the recognition of the Black organization’s members.

They still harbored this doubt: “Fine, we admit you’re talented. But we don’t even know whether you truly love Trevi—so how can you embrace our organization? We can’t see your sincerity.”

Because of this lingering doubt, the Godmother set the stage. She gave Hayoon the opportunity to personally deal with Trevi—the man who had torn her relationship with Jinwoo apart. And at that moment, Hayoon saw only one path forward. The single path that could save Jinwoo.

Yes—exactly as reflected in her eyes. She would ascend to the position of Godmother.

If she had taken the bait and killed her enemy right then and there, she would have instantly lost all support, and Jinwoo’s safety would have fallen into uncertainty. The choice before her was clear. She had to perform sincere love for Trevi. In reality, she placed her own life on the line and made a daring move—and the organization was enthralled.

Because “sacrifice” was the very symbol of the first Godmother, Marie Rose. The silent supporters of Bella finally found their voice.

And thus, “Bella” became a symbol the organization could accept.

The Godmother, satisfied that Hayoon had understood her intentions, chose her as the successor. At that moment, Hayoon was given a new role—Bella Rose. But precisely because of this, she had no choice but to leave Jinwoo behind. Bringing him along would risk shattering the carefully constructed image of “Trevi × Bella” as a devoted couple. If that happened, internal discord would never cease, and Jinwoo would be forced to live under constant scrutiny and suspicion.

Hayoon understood this all too well. And Jinwoo, aware that he could do nothing against the tide of such overwhelming power, could only let her go.

So what happens next? Is this a permanent farewell?

Before leaving, Hayoon placed a ring on Jinwoo’s finger. She promised she would return. Whether that promise will be fulfilled can be found in the final Episode 9-2… Though I’ll give you just a small hint: the path will not be smooth.

The Godmother has already seen through Hayoon’s true desire. The organization’s members were moved by her sacrifice—but the Godmother knows it was a calculated decision. That is why she did not say, “Correct answer, Bella,” but instead said, “Correct answer, Jeong Hayoon.”

So if the Godmother knows that Hayoon is merely wearing the shell of “Bella,” why did she choose her as successor? Because she is confident she can tame her. When a new Godmother ascends, the current one steps down—but she does not relinquish power entirely. To put it simply, she becomes a kind of “retired sovereign.” This dynamic is already visible in the relationship between the current Godmother, Malika Rose, and the previous Godmother, Keisha Rose.

※ Scene of Malika Rose reporting to Keisha Rose

Becoming Godmother does not mean absolute freedom. One must consider public sentiment within the organization, obey one’s mentor, and fulfill all duties befitting the role. Only after doing all of this does true power follow.

…and more importantly, Jinwoo also retains the freedom to choose. Now free from the organization, must he really wait for Hayoon? In Episode 9-2, it will be revealed that Jinwoo receives enormous compensation from the organization—enough money to live comfortably without ever working again. He could begin an entirely new life without waiting for Hayoon’s uncertain promise.

Thus, obstacles still remain between them. And yet—despite everything—they will not abandon each other. Why? What compels them to endure such suffering and continue longing for one another? You’ll find the answer in Episode 9-2.

If Hayoon’s act of saving Trevi was a performance, did she never truly love him?

No. Hayoon genuinely loved Trevi. The two shared many similarities.

This is closely tied to Hayoon’s mother. Her mother suffered from a lack of shame, and sought to fill that void with wealth and power. Trevi, on the other hand, suffered from a lack of affection, and tried to fill it with strength and authority. Though their deficiencies differed, their way of life—using others as tools to obtain wealth and power—was strikingly similar.

That is why Hayoon kept trying to understand Trevi. She projected the shadow self shaped by her mother onto him, believing that if she could save Trevi, she might also save herself. That belief formed the core of her love for him.

※ Hayoon’s inner monologue about Trevi (Episode 8-1, page 37)

Of course, Hayoon’s feelings were not limited to this Philia-like love. She was deeply drawn to his body and became dependent on the pleasure he gave her. She harbored strong Eros-driven desire toward him. To Hayoon, Trevi was less a lover and more like an idol.

This attachment—shaped by Trevi’s design and training—is explored primarily in Episode 4.

※ Hayoon becoming increasingly obsessed with Trevi under crowd psychology and jealousy (Episode 4-1, page 147)

In this way, Hayoon held multiple layers of attachment toward Trevi. Had she never met Jinwoo and been trained solely by Trevi, he would have undoubtedly been her top priority. And precisely because she loved him so deeply, had she faced the Godmother’s trial without using Melina, she would have killed Trevi. Her rage at the destruction of her life with Jinwoo, and the sense of betrayal, would have been impossible to suppress.

Isn’t Trevi benefiting too much, despite all the terrible things he’s done?

At his core, Trevi is a high-ranking member of a criminal organization, far removed from conventional morality. Even so, the reason he is so deeply hated is because he took Hayoon through lies and deception.

In the conventions of the NTR genre, the heroine is meant to fall through pleasure—but Trevi took her through falsehood and manipulation. I believe this is what many readers found hardest to accept.

That is precisely why Trevi’s role is not yet over. His actions will become a major variable that even the Godmother herself did not anticipate.

What choice will he make? Please stay with me until Episode 9-2 to find out.

Closing

When I posted the announcement about this review yesterday, many readers sent words of comfort. Thinking back, I realized that I’ve rarely responded directly to messages of support, so I wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you. Your encouragement has been a great source of comfort and strength.

The emotion I feel toward this work is not self-blame, but regret. When I first planned this world, I envisioned a much higher peak than what I ultimately managed to show. I can’t help but wonder whether the story would have been more compelling had I committed more clearly to the noir genre.

Through this project, I learned something truly important. Rather than immediately using a good idea, it’s crucial to first choose a genre that can fully support it—and then tell the story within that framework.

I usually plan my stories in writing before turning them into comics, and through this process I strongly realized just how many constraints arise when translating text into visual form. If there were moments where the story didn’t come across as smoothly as intended, I would be grateful if you could see them as growing pains of a first-time creator.

…With that said, I’ll be returning with the $8 bonus episode. As this is a new series launching in 2026, I intend to approach it with renewed determination and a clear direction.

The target upload date is January 20. If the schedule changes—whether delayed or moved forward—I’ll be sure to inform you through an announcement.

Thank you, always.
