Meditation of the Day - Sensation Tracking

In my practice, there are 4 main layers of human experience: sensation, emotion, cognition, and behavior. Society currently teaches us to live in the 3rd layer of cognition while neglecting the 1st, sensation. Especially for those of us living in the corporate world, so often we’re pressured to ignore our bodily signals in service of sitting still in meetings and our desks all day. The longer we’re cut off from sensation, the less we’re able to know our true needs and desires which feed our purpose.

Sensation tracking helps us practice reconnecting to our body by enhancing our ability to FEEL. This mediation is simple. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Close your eyes and bring your awareness to any sensation in your body. Allow your awareness to shift and move along with the sensations. Every time you notice your mind wander off into thoughts or imagery, gently allow the thought to dissolve into the air around you, and bring your focus back to the body.

Once completed, take note of any insights or revelations. You can do this meditation as often as you want to enhance your capacity to experience sensations such as pleasure, pain, discomfort, excitement, joy, etc without disconnecting or disassociating.
