Comments

i adore the veritasium and have watched their episodes for years, just like how I’ve watched jack and tom for years so this was the most exciting crossover ever for me. I literally paid the subscription so that I could hear the second half of the podcast lol

Most Borin Episode Ever F Tier

Budgie Imposter

I loved this thank you

Keane

I understood barely anything from this episode, but it has made me more curious to science, I'm more of a culture science person, but I think the two deserve more overlap and I wanna try and learn more

Fabel Lieshout

Note on realitivity from a physics undergrad: the principle of relativity is basically that there may be different mechanisms for different observers in different reference frames, but all observers can correctly predict what will happen in their own frames, using the same relativistically correct physical laws. An example relating to time specifically is: imagine you have two electrons, initially moving parallel to each other in a room, where the midpoint between the two is the exact center of the room vertically. The one electron exerts an electric force on the other (like charges repel) while the other generates a magnetic field which in turn moves the other electron away from it (again same phenomenon on each electron but due to different reasons - as from the electrons point of view the other electron and the world around it is moving, but it itself is stationary - like when you move in a car) Eventually the top electron will hit the ceiling and the bottom one will hit the floor, since they exert forces of the same magnitude against each other (when taking each reference frame case and comparing them to each other) they should hit floor/ceiling at the same time. So whether you are an outside observer or in the moving frame you MUST observe the same net effect. But because you have a difference in sizes of the forces (in the reference frame of one of the electrons it itself does not experience the same force when compared to the reference frame of the other electron) the time period it takes to strike the ceiling for instance is going to be a lot faster than the time to strike the floor. But we KNOW they hit at the same time - so the only explanation is that in the reference frame of the floor electron, it's clock has to be running slower.

I think Corpuscle was a good name actually

During the american nuclear attacks in japan, several people actually tried to jump into nearby rivers to stop themselves from burning, but due to the heat energy the water was boiling. Of course rivers are a lot more shallow and contained to a smaller area so there'd be more energy transfer in the sea, but I don't think you'd be as safe from the heat as you'd think.

jacktivity: jack outruns a nuke and sees if he dies 👍

nova!

cannot get it out of my head that one of them looks like young timothee chalamet

in terms of comedy i would love to know ur opinions on ‘the mighty boosh’ i feel like you’d either find it insanely weird and creative or hateee it 😭

caroline denvers

some of this shit genuinely blew my mind. please have more scientists on so tom can ask more questions

26:39 I think this is a really interesting question! Schrödinger's cat is a psychological thought experiment, where it’s essentially trying to prove that until you know for sure- at least from your perspective- the cat is both alive & dead till you open the lid. It’s not that you don’t know if it’s alive or dead, it’s that it is both until proven otherwise. Believing the tree didn’t make a sound seems self-centered, because your own perception isn’t the reality of the situation. The tree still fell even if you didn’t hear it fall. BUT, until you know, anything is the correct answer. Bees & birds could have gently carried the falling tree to the ground to stop the noise. The tree could have slowly lowered itself. The only reason these things are absurd is that we can scientifically prove that’s not how nature works. Trees don’t have sentience, nor do wild animals the cognition to carry out some sort of plan. We can use logic to assume the tree did make a noise when it fell & we find the fallen log, but we also can’t prove it ourselves entirely if we weren’t there, nor was there anyone else there to witness it. I wonder how that ties into history though, but even then we have a lot of proof to fairly certainly infer what happened. Anywho all that being said is that the tree is both silent & loud without someone’s presence, but that’s only from our point of view. In reality we can’t prove the tree made a noise, but it’s almost certain it did by use of logic. But all that’s just how WE see it. The action in itself & its results aren’t up to interpretation, just something that WE can’t be sure of completely as happening or not happening. Idk if that made any sense & I could be wrong so please feel free to reply yall 💖 As I was typing this I began to doubt myself & kinda get confused so this comment is less of a statement but more of a question lol, which is why I chose to send it instead of deleting this

mate you cant paddle for nothing brittle bones, how bout you try burrowing underground like a HOG

cherrydumb

jacks smarter than i thought

Oliver O’Reilly

i would love to see a jacktivity where he tests his nuke plan and sees how far he can paddle in 10-ish minutes or so

votejuno

This episode was the one that convinced me to buy patreon and i wasn't disappointed genuinely interesting questions

Eden

you guys should play outer wilds based on some of these conversations

Creepy 22

I feel incredibly more smart after watching this

PizzaBagel

Hey Tom at least if the sun explodes and you and Jack survive you’ll finally be able to do hand stuff together!

edeninnitmanifold

My gut feeling is the same as jacks, it’s crazy to think about. Like another big bang will happen and there’ll be new planets and there will likely be civilisation and life like ours?! And if that is true there was likely a universe before us with civilisation and life and then there was another big bang and we happened. Bro. I love space bruh.

edeninnitmanifold

I'm so ready for my little meow meow boys to yap

SillyBilly

if jack wants to understand precognition and other related strange spiritual/ supernatural phenomena in a logical way he should look into different models of understanding of witchcraft (though the principles apply to non witchcraft spiritual practices), particularly into the psychological model as it explains the majority in a way that doesn’t degrade its validity as someone’s personal practice

Arnika Fairwilde

Ello guys, unrelated but Tommy has got me into bruce springsteen so thanks mate love you
