Comments

The throat singing was actually cool

Amour

I, a stoner ruined the 420 likes 😔

Soisaucekarma

I was really really hoping jack would ask him the classic "what's heavier 1kg of steel or 1kg of feathers"

Ray4Real

We need to get Tom onto kurzgesagt videos lol

Ari

fun fact about money, credit predates bartering

'~'

Hearing Tom talk about light speed is like jschlatt being convinced that we can just move the Earth

Green Tea ( @Hotsaladwater )

The craziest thing was watching this episode on my way to work as a bookseller and hearing Jack talk about the book “Orbital” and then ringing up a customer who was buying the book😂

Lexi

i fully thought when ice melts it would overflow too wtf i always put in a bit less water every time i fill up my boyfriends drink bottle i feel bad now

Amanda Hrvojevic

- everything on earth is made up of molecules - changing from solid to liquid doesn’t change the composition of the molecules just how they move together - liquid water and water vapor are made up of the same kind of molecules so a certain number of molecules of each will have the same weight - gas is less dense than liquid so less of it will fit into the same volume (container) as the liquid so that’s why a jar of vapor is lighter than a jar of liquid - different liquids can have different molecule compositions, each element has a different weight so liquid gold is heavier than water because each gold atom is heavier than a water molecule - state of matter depends on temperature and pressure, so you can change a gas to a liquid by cooling it down (condensation) or compressing it really hard - yhis is why the really really hot water at the bottom of the ocean doesn’t boil or evaporate because it’s being pressed down so hard by all of the water on top

sara rodriguez

No way this isn't a bit. No way is Tom that stupid

Leon Leenders

its always the exception

magic8ball

I’m 15 mins in and I feel like I’m disassociating 😂

Kai

i bet tom could answer a lot of these questions by using the amazing invention of google and all this knowledge at our disposal for free lmao

Bea

tom just not understanding science and vehemently denying scientific facts is very frustrating lmao

Bea

I tried so hard not to laugh because my budgie was sleeping next to me and I didn't want to wake him up but I almost slipped

Elizabeth ann Emmons

Interesting new segments hmm 🤔😅

Valerie

Stopppppp why is water the exception 😭😭

Flossie Beswick

minutes into the episode and i’ve been called an idiot by proxy. gonna find a better cause for my 5 quid a month.

Ella

OMG YES THIS WOULD BE PEAK

sethy

very controversial episode with the fans here😭

sethy

tsukasa... .

sethy

😂😭

Jess Gulwell

This (when a solid goes into a liquid it expands) is generally true but specifically not for ice. Water molecules form hydrogen bonds with each other, which influences how ice forms, and ice is actually less dense than water. This is why ice floats on water. (If you want a better, concise explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UukRgqzk-KE)

Standing Girl

This episode really irked me because jacks wrong?! He can’t comprehend that when a solid goes into a liquid it expands but while also trying to explain how a liquid into a gas expands?! It’s like come on

Flossie Beswick

The way he just kept going had me losing it

Max Clark

Could not keep a straight face at work while listening to Jack try to throat sing, was trying so hard not to laugh that was hilarious

Max Clark

Oh god I would love to hear him try to think his way out of that😭

Max Clark

Did Jack fuckin throw up after the end

Luna Cazador

Jack is correct about the ice thing, but water expands when it freezes so that's why the ice might displace more liquid. another amazing episode of misinformation boys keep it up 💯💯💯💯

steorn

Raise your YAYAYA

Ulf Markmann

i zoned out for this whole episode

Holly Bowdler

Hard agree

Gideon Ebeling

My favorite segment is where jack teaches Tom middle school science, should def include that on the pod next week

Madison Williams

Jack, you should watch a movie called LOOK BACK. it is a beautiful anime film about why we make art.

Justseth_03

New segment idea: The doxxing challenge- whoever can leak more information about the other (social security, postcode, card Information) WINS

Dtyjbggfr

I’ve never related more to an episode then the science bit, It hurts my head 🤯

Molly Smith

teasing new merch?? you're not slick

lucia

lol I feel like Jack must feel how my boyfriend does when he trying to explain some science stuff to me.

Kittycatds

Just gonna skip the science one, I did not spend years in uni for engineering to be lectured by two mc youtubers.

neutral_walker

i think tom would really struggle with the question 'which is heavier; a kilogram of steel or a kilogram of feathers'

bliss

Headphones came unplugged at work today and it defaulted to full volume, but instead of hearing talking they heard the whale like noises at the end from Jack! 😂

Joshua Daugherty

i just have to say i haven’t watched this episode yet but im here to comment that i was reminded of the baseline junk video on tik tok and i realized being a jack manifold and tommyinnit fan from day one has healed me 😭😭😭😭

Truu Love

Please do more Jack getting angry segments

JonKan

To be fair I thought water spilled over the sides of the cup when ice melted too 😭 now it makes sense

Grace

please dont do another science podcast, i want a refund

Ollie Andreassen

also ice is denser than liquid water so yep the volume of that drink will decrease when the ice melts! (think about if you've ever filled a bottle to the brim then it explodes in the freezer because it expands, then reverse it to get from solid to liquid)

Adam Semar

wait till Tom finds out about kspace

Hope

All of that physics would’ve been useful when I was paining through gcse science 😭

Dom Pera

Carbon weighs 6, and gold weighs 79. Gold is insanely dense and a bar of gold would be super heavy. This is super funny but please do the next podcast about exploring and looking at the periodic table I am losing my mind hereeeeeeee

Starlight

Barter actually was never a thing, it’s a myth and a stupid one. Imagine wanting to buy a cow and walking with 1000 bananas to find someone who wants 1000 bananas and also had a cow and then the one with the cow walking home with 1000 bananas but no cow to put it on. What Jack said about the promise is actually very true. Didn’t finish the episode yet but if you look at a dollar bill you’ll notice it says that you can go with it to the bank and get an actual dollar for this piece of paper

Sophie Quaker

Tom not knowing the difference and relation between mass and weight is honestly so real

Plinky

can I get a refund

Dynamo Plays

Best noise you can make segment was easily the best

Skip

Tom I love you but I used to be well shocked that I passed double science in GCSE and now I am really not surprised that I did LMAO I love this podcast so much <3

ArcticWerewolf2

Jack think about it if u took the money you could eat the hand!!

Terri Deans

Maybe Hank Green if you want someone who's already known on the internet

Zoe S

Please please please get a physicist on the podcast to answer science questions Tom has (and also a whiteboard bc I think visual explanations would help) because this is killing me as someone who's studying electrical engineering and had my share of physics courses D:

Zoe S

i learned more about science here than i did all my school years

sophia

I like the "whats the best sound you can make right now" segment

caitie07

week 3 of asking for podcast jingle to be sung by jack (jazz edition)

spaxuko

this is genuinely my favorite patreon episode so far. very satisfied with the $7 i've spent per month since november o7

Anne Davis

I genuinely hope he sees that question @Drew Romero XD

Katie Harter

everyone on my bus must think i'm mental listening to this i cant stop giggling

Evan

tom whats heavier a kilo of iron or a kilo of feathers

Drew Romero

The noise segment should be a Patreon exclusive regular segment

S0L

Science questions segment needs to be a thing

Bill

Listening through Tom and Jack explain physics wrong is sending me. I will note that Jack’s understanding is correct, it’s just sometimes he uses the wrong term to describe what he’s talking about

S0L

Came here to say this😭😭😭

Sophie Quaker

“What’s heavier? A kilogram of steel? Or a kilogram of feathers?” Was the energy of that whole first bit

Spyruce

with both your eyes your fov should be around 114°, each eye should be aroind 70°

Josh

I had to stop listening because im in my art class and i started laughing to myself because of Jacks “mongolian singing” (???)

Freya

cave paintings: watch horrible histories clip about paint/dye, it’s literally like minecraft. they’d have chalky water or whatever and add different flowers, or animal blood, to colour the paints to be different

Josh

lava is basically rock as a liquid, rock will be more dense than water and therefore filling the same volume with lava or water will be different masses.

Josh

loved jacks rick impression

Josh

ps, i’m a primary school teacher

Zack C-Bennett

This is another “kilogram of steal vs. kilogram of feathers” debate again

Master LoL Z

Big fan of the noise segment 😭

Juno

As someone who is just as lost/curious/oblivious/whatever you wanna call it as Tom, I can confirm that it is a bit scary...

Bo

i enjoyed the best noise segment. i think it portrays both of your personalities very well and it is really funny

tozier

jack teaching tom first grade science is my new favorite segment

Maralyn Maxwell

Science discussions are so funny please keep this as a segment 😭😭

Abanpii

definitely need a science questions segment

Charlie

with the vaccine topic, during the smallpox epidemic, a man noticed that the milkmaids who contracted cow pox (which wasn't lethal) didn't develop smallpox (which was) so he tested this theory by injecting his friend with the puss of someone who had cowpox, and monitoring him. it of course worked, and that's how vaccines came about!!

Dotty Nearney

this is painful 😭😭 best ep so far

st.aelphaba

My favorite segments was Jack teaching Tom basic science. If you continue this for a couple more episodes maybe tommy will be able to crack light-speed travel.

Scar

i liked the best noise you can make right now segment.... best one yet.

5k0rpion

i thought i was alone about being curious about everything, thanks tom

mari

best episode by far, not even close

e-ll

Wow I am so astonished at tommys intelligence

Rory McMiken

the hard questions section made me laugh harder then i have in a while! great segment although frustrating (in a fun way lol!)

vee xo!

This is a really infuriating episode to watch

Otis

Tom the typa guy to say a ton of bricks is heavier than a ton of feathers

Tess

Jack did pretty well at explaining how money is a medium of exchange

Madeleine Carson

also jacks Mongolian throat singing was well impressive

flo

I really enjoyed toms hard questions genuinely, i substituted my own family members and it really made me think

flo

legit exactly what i was thinking

astr0phi1e

this episode has made me realize how much smarter than Tom I am

emma

jack look up water intoxication i'm begging you brother

james

This genuinely had me cracking up at work trying to work on graphics lmao

Abi

Listening to this as an environmental scientist who has took Organic Chem and many others this is a little painful HAHA

Lilly Cassano

they need to learn neuroscience i know jack would love some neurotransmitters

Hope

gold is extremely heavy guys

oz wenham-clark

As someone who loves science and learning, I very much appreciate my education and my family.

ERA

genuinely need this so bad

june

it’s a joke this has been my fav episode so far LOL

june

oooo vague rude criticism! how productive and helpful

angel

genuinely what the fuck just happened. never do this again.

june

loved the steel is heavier than feathers episode

Implywood

audio listeners loved the end

CraftyCole

34:52 PEPSI CAME OUT MY NOSE AT THAT LONG PAUSE THEN.. nahh

CraftyCole

Please do a science segment

Zaz

Bless Jack for his patience.

harlizard

If you filled your cup to the brim with ice in it and never drank any, I guess that could be an issue?

harlizard

pee pee ah poo poo in ah caca land

majors

Just saying, Hank Green has a new show on Complexly where he gets questions from people, does the research and then sits down with them to explain what he found out...

harlizard

can we have hank green come on and try to explain science to tom

idklisa

I think Tommy would get a kick out of ICP's miracles. "Fuckin magnets, how do they work? And I don't wanna talk to a scientist"

Z00mane

+1

Z00mane

Okay last thing; a little challenge for yall. Look up how something was invented, or just look up how something works, once a week. Can be anything. Paint for example, as a graphic designer this is something I have learned about and the history of paint is actually very simple! Look at a handful of websites to get the full explanation, and do it for fun pressure-free. There's no test at the end. Just spend your morning googling the history of Something. LEARN :) Even if that knowledge only sticks around for a day.

Zain

Excuse me, I am quite drunk, but I really feel Tom with the not understanding science stuff. I love learning and am devastated that none of it really... sticks. I often get upset about the idea that there is so much in my lifetime that I will never understand. The bottom line is: Ask questions. Always. You are never stupid. We CAN'T know everything, but we have an infinite capacity to learn something new everyday. It might fade. It will fade. But you and I get to learn that thing again a different day. It goes hand in hand with why we create. It's all a reach forward for something more.

Zain

I really liked jack explains science to tom for like the first 10 minutes

Katelyn Campbell

Toms questions about how Things are invented made me think of something that I find interesting. Basically- there was a point in time where one person could know everything there was to know. I don't remember what it's called, but it's why Leonardo DaVinci was like incredible at literally everything- he simply could be, and he PUSHED that. Because he knew everything there was to know, he asked questions about Things and invented shit and had ideas and painted and created and LITERALLY everything. Things were invented because people were like Alright, So What's Next? And I find it fascinating. That's why discussions and questions and learning are so important. We may never reach that All-Knowing stage in humanity ever again (and it's totally okay not to know everything), but we still push and push and that push will never cease. As a person I know absolutly nothing, my memory is bad and I don't understand most things. And I can accept that- but I will never turn down the opportunity, the privilege, to learn something new. There's always something new.

Zain

Lets wait until tommy finds out that the average cloud weighs like tons and tons .

William

lowkey one of the chillest episodes and im here for it

Olivia Pittman

Can I get in a classroom with Tom? I can teach him this ez

Zack C-Bennett

My mom said I’m just ✨special✨

Ulf Markmann

do you need help

Olivia Pittman

me cors

Olivia Pittman

how have we not had tubbo on the pod yet

Olivia Pittman

wait tgats a thing i want it

Olivia Pittman

You guys desperately need Hank Green on this podcast

Leila Abdrakhmanova

New segment: jack chugs his water bottle as fast as he possibly can

Alexa Stone

this made me realise im dim as shit

charlie

But I've typically floats on the surface so if you manage to fill a cup to its absolute maximum amount and the ice sits above the surface and the edge of the container then there is a chance when it melts it may cause a slight overflow, but that comes down to if the surface tension is enough to hold what little extra water there is

Bea

Fact checked: yes ice takes up more space then it's water equivalent due to trapped air

Bea

Is that shut up I’m talking merch they’re wearing??

Aliki

Have harry on cowards.

Wyatt Mabb

OH MY GOD. TOMMY. JACK. BILL NYE EPISODE. PLEASE. I don't know how realistic that is but imagine how sick that would be??

L4UNDRY_BE4R

I feel tommy on the "i hate science" part bc i never got a good science education & the science "debates" y'all are having are so entertaining but also i am genuinely learning a lot. lowkey i would be okay with jack sneaking in science to every episode while tommy says something dumb, I'm really enjoying it

L4UNDRY_BE4R

please play more tom would u rather games they’re mega entertaining 🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️

Misha Bouttell

Loved the best noise segment

Queenie Meng

Hey, how’s it going? I’m writing a paper for an English class about Bruce Springsteen’s lyricism and need a nonprofessional expert on Springsteen, ie a really big fan. I don’t know anyone that likes Bruce and then i remembered how much of a fan Tom is. This might be a lot to ask, but I’d love to either send Tom some questions or hop on a call with him if he’s willing. Thanks for your time!

Owen Smith

I hope averageharry is a guest soon!

Lavender Wong

tommys the type of man to think 1kg of steel is heavier than 1kg of feathers

Rin

i absolutely loved jack explaining science-y things to tom

Nicholas

I also genuinely cannot wrap my mind around humanity and how on earth we exist or invented anything

Saanitized.12

i really enjoyed tom’s hard questions. the childlike wonder he exudes is inspiring

sab

drank 3 quarters of a bottle of fireball while watching today's episode, had an existential crisis then cried for about 20 minutes about how beautiful life and humanity and creativity and the world is and realised it's all worth it and death actually isn't that deep. cheers lads

oli

this is the peak of a white boy podcast please continue to get behind the mic every week x

Louisa

I am so hyperfocused on history I just want to info dump about some of these questions Tommy had, like vaccines and stuff. I just have so many weird and random useless bits of information I've collected over the years due to my love of history

Shanna Langham

actually ice tends to float so not ALL of it is under the rest of the liquid. Same reason ice in the ocean melting increases the sea level

embyveddii

i couldnt be more happy watching Mongolian throat singing for my money XDD

raven

my favourite gore poddcast

raven

Your guys podcast has inspired me to read more, delete TikTok, and get wayyy more into films and comedy. It sucks cus I don’t think you guys realize how much of a positive impact you’ve had on so many people. There’s this awesome TedTalk with Ethan Hawke where he talks about allowing yourself to be creative that I think you guys would really appreciate. :)

Sarah

XDDDDD

raven

I'm realising how lucky Tom was that he didn't have to write his gcse exams bc of covid... His knowledge of science is next to nothing 😭

Aster

26 mins - i really recommend 'Out There: A Scientific Guide to Alien Life, Antimatter, and Human Space Travel (For the Cosmically Curious)' by Michael Wall. it's written really well and casually and ocmments on alot of what you mentioned here from a scientific point of view

Lily

the science bit made me feel like i was in year 11 bottom set chemistry again getmeoutofheregetmeoutofhere

tom

This episode has taught me they need either Neil deGrasse Tyson to teach Tom or Philomena Cunk to break Jack

Tom

This was truly a riveting episode of the Shut Up I'm Talking patreon

WellGagMebnsshdhrd

“Fact check: Everything Jack has said is true”

DancingDolphins22

Toms hard questions are great. Also Jack should genuinely learn throat singing ur kinda close icl

Nico

I really really like the hardest question bit, and the best noise bit was so funny 😭

Lexi Collins

Liked all the segments guys. Think the noise one could really go mainstream. Also a big fan of Tommyinnit Questions

Elise

the simplest it gets is: 1kg of liquid water takes up less space than 1kg of ice, because water expands when it freezes

Piotr Szymanski

big fan of this here episode

otters

this is even more confusing

Sophie Olson

at this point we need a bill nye podcast episode where he just debunks everything tom thinks is right 😭

ultravioletbutch

jack is actually slightly wrong but tom is more wrong. ice has a lower density than water (which is why it floats) and therefore when the ice melts the water level in the cup will be lower, despite the fact that the total mass of water, frozen or liquid, remained the same. no air bubbles need to be involved.

Piotr Szymanski

ask tom if a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers is heavier

Holly s

i love this idea

rianna law-lyons

we NEED an "ask tom a foundation/higher gcse science question" segment coz it's actually hilarious

rianna law-lyons

nice jumpers guys👀👀

Amelia Comber

best segments: random noise right now and the would you rather/press the button type thing. (ie. lose a hand and you can fly, not the which loved ones would you save lmao)

Izzy Lavalette

im losing my mind over how much tommy doesn't know about science omg

HummingJ

sometimes being a biochem major and listening to this podcast breaks my brain

emma n

I’d honestly love to sit down with Tom over a pint to explain how the world works. Because I really don’t think he knows

Ella Belec

i really want to know jack and toms favourite beatle

eve

we need bill nye to come in and do a science lesson for tom

Izzy Lavalette

The woke mind virus really has hit Tom's brain this time

benebennus

i like to chew on those fake ice things and one time one popped in my mouth and i drank it and then i was afraid i was gonna die

sethy

okay I'm doing a degree in nuclear fusion so this whole start of episode is painful but ngl I don't think I represent the majority of the audience

Byyrds

He was technically already on during the Dan and Phil episode! Although I'd love to see him on the podcast again 🙏

Alice

ice actually takes up more space than water. One of the few materials that expands on freezing (this is also why lots of potholes appear in winter)

Byyrds

"Is it difficult to live like that?" 😭😭

Alice

Same with what Jack said about the development of technology, cake would have followed the same evolution: first, we would have understood how to make bread. And the concept of bread as we know it (light, fluffy, etc) evolved from tougher, harder variants such as pitta, and essentially all of these foods were discovered through experimentation. Often, because of need: I need my food to last longer, so I will bake it and hope it doesn't expire as quickly. Oh, it tastes good too? Awesome, new food! And like the glass thing, the earliest techniques usually also stem from something observed in nature.

Alice

tom was so fucking relateable this episode

sethy

"We're back to the ice cubes" ... are we??

Alice

a good segment would be if tommy gave jack a topic he knew nothing about and jack would go and research it and tell tommy about it on the next one cuz that was quite an interesting part of the pod

Tom

tommy i am begging you please read a physics textbook

sillystone

Tom's ability to be so incorrect so confidently is impressive. Jack's frustration is palpable

AndrewAbnormal

if you look really really close at 1:45 you'll see a wild tom simons eating his sweater

dr.manhattan73

it was quite the dream

rinnthepooh

On the dementia-fingers convo, my grandad had dementia, and he had 2 numb fingers (he never got the feeling back after an incident with a lawn mower) and he forgot his fingers were always numb and would occasionally get rather concerned for their wellbeing.

APenguinEm

this podcast devoured but also guysss when is averageharry coming on please!

summer

The hostillity is potent.

Alex

Tom really went "but steel is heavier than feathers". He's so midwit core

losdock

The where did vaccines come from question I actually know something about - finally the 9 in GCSE history is coming to use! It was a guy who realised that the milk maids who got infected with cowpox from their jobs never came down with smallpox during outbreaks, and therefore realised that he could make people immune to smallpox by injecting them with some of the infection from a cowpox sufferer (although he did test this out on some poor small boy which was a bit odd tbh).

Amy

YET ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO LADS! LOVE FROM DURHAM!

Mikael Meyer

been waiting for this all week!!

i had a dream last night that kendrick lamar came out as nonbinary and drake was still angry about losing the beef and made a song titled not like them and dream produced it. i don't know where else to talk about this besides the shut up i'm talking patreon comments
