the custom youtube closed captioning is a pretty great option if you want to be accessible while not taking up too much attention (especially for people who don't want them). i have some audio processing issues and really appreciate when youtube videos have captions, especially when color coded for different people. grian's captions are a good example of what i mean

2024-12-15 21:43:21 +0000 UTCWhen I first started watching the dreamsmp and that era of your videos I knew english on a very basic level, like only colours and shit so the subtitles really helped me understand accents and how words are written . I also think sometimes they are a bit too much I like when they change colours depending on who's speaking but I feel like they take a way from the videos sometimes.

2024-12-15 21:16:13 +0000 UTCi think subtitles are one of the reasons i liked watching tommy’s videos so much in the beginning. i’d never really seen subtitles on a youtube video before, & they really helped me understand what was going on. the different colors on the subtitles helped me put a name to the voice in a way that i couldn’t really with other creators. i think i have some audio processing difficulties, so it’s been really helpful to have subtitles in the video, since youtube auto-generated subtitles suck so much
