Necromancer
Added 2020-12-01 06:31:01 +0000 UTCThe dead rise, the dead walk.
The dead reckon, the dead talk.
We’ve been extremely busy this month! Here’s a list of things we’ve done which you might be interested in:
- New Class: Necromancer
- Complete Warmage Finished!
- Complete Martyr Finished!
- Complete Marshal Finished!
- Updated the Complete Witch (buffs for Steel Witches)
- Updated the Complete Investigator (formatting change to Trinkets in subclasses, some balance changes in some subclasses, mainly to trinkets)
- Added magic item cards for Cakewalk, courtesy of our friends at LootTavern
And with this, we rest. We traditionally take December off to be with our friends and family, and for our talented artists to rest their aching hands. I hope that, with this month’s cornucopia of work, you’ll be satisfied with no post on January 1st.

A collaboration between Mage Hand Press and our friend Alexander J Garcia (@TheOldGOATGames), the necromancer is a complete, balanced minionmancy class that lets you control a horde of undead creatures, wither your foes with a host of cruel spells, and live out your evil ambitions of becoming a lich.
This class is very much in playtesting! If you’re feeling even a little interested in rolling up a necromancer, please do, and tell us how it plays at your table! Particularly, we’re interested in whether other players feel outclassed by your horde of thralls, whether the GM has problems dealing with the HP pool of the thralls, and whether the rule for casting animate dead as an action imposes issues with either of the above. We have some preliminary math on this class’s major features which we think indicates that it’s balanced, but _fun_ is a strange alchemy that only playtesting can shed a light on. Hit us up on Discord with any playtesting results!

2020-12-02 04:06:51 +0000 UTCAh! I just saw that there are some levels when you get 2 spells instead. How interesting. For Bards, it seems to be related to their Magical Secrets feature.

2020-12-01 16:10:06 +0000 UTCScratch that! It's the bard progression. And yeah, I admit it's weird.

2020-12-01 15:42:59 +0000 UTCIt's been a long time since we established that progression, and I'm sort of scratching my head at it. I think it's related to when you get new spell slots, but I'll be revisiting it for a progression that's less inherently confusing.

2020-12-01 15:42:27 +0000 UTCHello! Just curious, why does the necromancer not get a new spell at certain levels?
