Patreon Restructuring and Announcements

First and foremost, I'm sad to announce that three long time members of the Mage Hand Press writing team, the Palm, Thumb, and Knuckles are parting ways. When we started this project, it was a fledgling blog for a game system with no content. With their help, we grew it into the wonderful little platform it is today. We've all picked up responsibilities in the meantime, however -- marriages, kids, ferrets -- which demand real and important attention, and understandably, tackling increasingly ambitious projects just wasn't in the cards for everyone. Don't shed too many tears, because you'll still be able to ping them on Discord heart's content. (Also, this won't affect your scheduled monthly Mage Hand Press content in any way.)
In the meantime, we have a new team member I’d like to announce: The Pinky. He’s been working with us unofficially for years -- going all the way back to the Shugenja class -- and many of you probably know him already as Grand Moff Xela. Expect the team to grow more in the coming weeks as we search out new Digits to join the MHP ranks.
Patreon Rework
As you might know, we'll soon be reworking the Patreon tiers to better reflect our vastly improved quality and quantity of output over the years. At the end of this month, we'll unpublish the $1 and $2 tiers, making it so nobody new can join them, and In one month, on May 15th, we'll delete them and switch over to the new system:
$3: Hero
You get PDFs of every book and rules supplement we’ve created over the last year. You can also vote on what we do next.
$5: Dungeon-Delver
You get PDFs of everything we’ve EVER created, going all the way back to 2016. You get two votes on what we do next.
$10: Producer
You get everything we make, and a producer credit at the end of every book and PDF. You get three votes on what we do next, and we’ll send you a softcover whenever we do a print run of them.
FAQs
Ask questions below or in the Patreon, and I’ll be happy to answer them here.
Will I be upgraded to the $3 tier if I’m at a lower one? Nope. You’ll have to switch manually. If you're at the $1 or $2 levels, you simply won't be able to access any of your old rewards once we switch over.
Will softcovers to Producers ship internationally? Yes, we plan to ship internationally.
Which books will you release in softcover? We want to release the Mimic Book of Mimics, Cobalt Book of Kobolds, and Complete Investigator, to name a few.
How often will you print softcovers? This is a tricky question, as it depends on Kickstarters going well, but we'd like to do at least one run a year.
Comments
Best of luck to all of the members leaving I wish them the best.

2020-04-27 02:06:33 +0000 UTCGlad I checked this before the 1st! Updated to $15 and cannot wait to see more great content. Now I have seen in an above comment about what you were hoping to release as softcover. Has this update changed the possibility of releasing a hardcover complation of your other classes? I would love to see another kickstarter for a larger book like a PHB 2: Middle Finger Boogaloo

2020-04-16 06:14:33 +0000 UTCSuper good question! There's a few books we want to release in softcover: the Mimic Book of Mimics, Cobalt Book of Kobolds, and Complete Investigator, to name a few. I don't know exactly when we'll be doing our next print run, but I'd like to aim for this summer. If things go well, we can print more than one run of softcovers a year, but this is dependent on future Kickstarter projects going well (Patreon funds don't provide enough to fund a print run on their own). Importantly, I don't want to make it possible for people to upgrade to Producer for just one month to get a softcover -- that wouldn't be profitable, and goes against the intent of it being a nice gift for people who go above and beyond to support us. So I'll either be keeping the print schedule a secret, or I'll do something tricky with checking _previous_ months of Producers to determine who gets a copy.

2020-04-16 03:08:40 +0000 UTCFirstly, I would just like to acknowledge all the work your team has done in the past. I have long enjoyed the content this patron puts out and its a high point of my weeks when new content rolls out. I'm sorry to see some of your authors moving to other endeavors but I know how difficult collaborations can be at times. You have all done amazing work in the past, and I'm hopeful that this tradition carries on into the future. For my part I'm largely unaffected by these changes (I download new content as a matter of course and archive them for table use.) My question is what the nature of the new softcover releases is. Are you planning on rolling those out with content releases like the cobalt book of kobolds, or restricting it to books of Dark Matter adjacent release? How often will these releases be rolling out?

2020-04-16 01:05:28 +0000 UTCGood question! It used to be that we kept very large books for $3 and up, but now the system is much simpler: $3 is the most recent year of content, $5 is everything.

2020-04-16 00:29:03 +0000 UTCIs there anything not included in the $3 tier other than older stuff? I've always been a bit confused about how you group things.

2020-04-16 00:20:01 +0000 UTCWhat's wrong with the $3 tier? Just save the old stuff you're interested in.

2020-04-16 00:18:25 +0000 UTCI'm sorry about that, Josh, and I hope you swing back by if you're in a place where that $5 isn't that much. Thanks for your support all these years!

2020-04-16 00:11:53 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to hear this. I've been a supporter since the beginning, and while $2 a month was reasonable for me to get something I was interested in once every few months, $5 a month is not. Can't say I'm super happy to lose access to everything I've paid for up to this point, but it is what it is. I wish you the best.
