Vecna Preview: Complete Warmage

I agree, some campaigns don't really make sense to have anyone on horseback. Especially let's say, a House of the Knight Warmage who's traveling with a group of adventures who don't have horses of their own. Maybe lvl 11 should be something more generically useful to the warmage, or something unique to each house?

True, but I feel, that for archetypes like the Rook, they'd prefer a crow familiar to do scouting and intel gathering over a mount, just from a flavor standpoint.

Essentially this. Mounts are of primary importance to the Kings, but they are still very useful for all of the houses.

11th level is currently Commander's Steed, which in my mind basically works for all subclasses, because an 11th level Warmage would be in command of his own unit, regardless of house.

Not sure if this has been addressed yet, but I was talking to The Palm about the dead level at 11th and thought a ribbon would work. He came up with the idea of a mount and I feel It makes perfect sense for the king and works for the knight, but I'm not sure how that'd be incorporated for the rook or the bishop. I feel it would make sense to make it an archetype level and either give each class a unique type of mount or a unique pet as the ribbon.

I am very much looking forward to the reworked class and the lore behind it, and these magic items look like a lot of fun!

We have an entire chapter about the history and reality of the College of Warmages, if you plan on using them as a faction in your world. There's a lot to dig in to, but if you want to skim the surface, the class's themes haven't changed much.

I enjoyed the flavor of the original, looking forward to the new version.

The base level class plays a LOT like a warlock, only with the spell slots replaced with alterations to their cantrips. The subclasses each have their own distinct flavor, allowing it to act more like a rogue, or an eldritch knight, or even more like a spellcaster. We did a LOT of rebalancing and editing, and the whole piece is just much more refined and thematically cohesive. You can also build it to hit people with hammers that explode, so there's that.

Can't wait! If this comes out before the 31st, I'll be all set for my first session playing a Warmage. If not, then I'll probably be changing him over after the fact anyway.

Awesome! You have no idea how long I've wanted a really polished warmage as a class! Can't wait to play it :)

This is very similar to the Warmage class released on our blog, but its been mechanically altered enough to be unique (read: non-compatable) from the original. These changes are really going to make the whole thing play much better, and I can't wait for people to see it.
