The song the girl on the bus sang as she was exiting, and the mariachi band sang at the end was actually "NYC" from the original musical Annie (replaced in the film with a song called "Let's Go to the Movies"), which includes a character whose name is "Star-to-Be," who enters singing "N.Y.C., just got here this morning - three bucks, two bags, one me"

That's what The Deuce is about? I've always wondered if that show was any good

I usually take an express subway to work so my commute nightmare is the opposite of Liz's, "going local for no reason" vs hers "going express for no reason". The show has shown us where she lives at times so I know her commute would take about the same time as mine, but mine is twice the physical distance so local trains take forever.
"Where does a young prostitute go to get started in this town?" is unironically the premise of the David Simon show The Deuce.
I get Liz using her repulsiveness to get a seat but why scare off the mariachi band, I love good musicians playing on the subway!
