Why "Neverending Nights"?

Hi everyone, I decided to share some curious facts about the universe of my comic book, so you can learn a little more about my inspirations and the production of the story. Most artists work listening to music or podcasts, others prefer to work in total silence. I personally really like listening to music. 🎵💫

While many artists are directly influenced by the things they read, others by what they watch, I am in the group of musical influences, not only by the styles that I like, but also by the fantastic themes that these songs deal with.

Especially in the stories of the Midnight Witch, so much so that this story mentioned in the title of the post has a very interesting production trivia. It was conceived at a time when I was bitter about some things in my life and felt lost. At that time, I was immersed in music, especially pagan metal and I had been following Elvenking's work for some time, since the album Wyrd, to be more specific.

In 2006, they released the album The Winter Wake, and with it came several wonderful songs like Swallowtail and The Wanderer, which made me have a serious relationship with the repeat button on my CD player. But one in particular caught my attention because its lyrics didn't have the theme of magic and folklore present in the essence of the other songs; it touched on a much more sensitive subject, and it was called Neverending Nights.

I listened to this song non-stop, because it spoke very well to that present moment, so I thought about the plot and stopped to talk to my old friend Carol Peace and, together we wrote what would be the script for Midnight Witch – Neverending Nights. It's amazing because it took me some time to finish it, since at that time, I faced some health problems (which I shouldn't talk about here) and that was also an obstacle I had to deal with. But despite all the difficulties, and we know how difficult it is to produce a comic independently, but with the collaboration of the entire team, the story finally saw the light of day when we published it. 📜📚

Years after I had drawn this comic, thanks to a post I made on social media, the story reached the eyes of the members of Elvenking, and in a conversation I had with Damna (the band's vocalist), he asked me what I had understood about the lyrics of the song that had inspired the comic. I thought a lot and remembered everything I had felt at that moment in my life when I heard the song for the first time, between the lines I understood that Neverending Nights was about a period of your day or your life when all your friends are far away or have gone away, and you are alone, the only company you have... is yourself. And in that intimate moment, the memories of the things that eat away at you inside come back and you can't deal with this torment, like a wound on the roof of your mouth that would heal if you could stop licking it. A moment that lasts an hour or an eternity in which your own mind tortures you with memories of something that has already happened, but you can't forget, giving the opportunity for more and more problems, even older and unresolved, to return to haunt your thoughts, like ghosts that scream in your ear all the time.👻

But despite all the torment, which according to my interpretation, both in the song and in the story, at some point the memories will go away and that night will end at the dawn of a new day, opening the way for another cycle and new purposes that will make those screams nothing more than mere whispers each night. 🖤🤘🔥

Oi pessoal, resolvi trazer algumas curiosidades sobre o universo da minha HQ, até pra vocês conhecerem um pouco mais das minhas inspirações e da produção da história. A maioria dos artistas trabalha ouvindo música ou podcasts, outros preferem trabalhar no silêncio total. Eu particularmente gosto bastante de ouvir música. 🎵💫

Enquanto vários artistas são influenciados diretamente pelas coisas que leem, outros pelo que assistem, eu estou no grupo das influências musicais, não apenas pelos estilos que me agradam, mas também pelos temas fantásticos que essas músicas tratam.

Especialmente nas histórias da Bruxa da Meia-Noite, tanto que essa história citada no título do post tem uma trivia de produção bem interessante. Ela foi idealizada em uma época onde eu estava amargurado com algumas coisas da minha vida e me sentia perdido. Nesse período eu estava imerso na música, principalmente o pagan metal e já acompanhava o trabalho do Elvenking há algum tempo, desde o álbum Wyrd, para ser mais específico.

Em 2006 eles lançaram o álbum The Winter Wake, e com ele vieram várias músicas maravilhosas como Swallowtail e The Wanderer, que me fizeram ter um relacionamento seríssimo com o botão repeat do CD player. Mas uma em específico em chamou a atenção pois a letra dela não tinha o tema de magia e folklore presente na essência das demais músicas, ela tocava em um assunto muito mais sensível, e ela se chamava Neverending Nights.

Escutei essa música sem parar, pois, ela conversava muito bem com aquele momento presente, então pensei no argumento e parei pra conversar com minha velha amiga Carol Peace e, juntos escrevemos o que seria o roteiro de Midnight Witch – Neverending Nights. É impressionante pois levei algum tempo para finalizar a mesma já que nessa época, enfrentei alguns problemas de saúde (que não convém falar aqui) e isso também foi um obstáculo com o qual tive de lidar. Mas apesar de todas as dificuldades, e nós sabemos o quanto é difícil produzir uma história em quadrinhos de forma independente, mas com a colaboração de toda a equipe, finalmente a história pôde ver a luz da lua quando a publicamos. 📜📚

Anos depois de ter desenhado essa revista, graças a um post que fiz nas redes sociais, a história chegou aos olhos dos membros do Elvenking, e em uma conversa que tive com o Damna (vocalista da banda), ele me perguntou o que eu havia entendido a respeito da letra da música para que ela tivesse inspirado a HQ. Eu pensei bastante e lembrei de tudo o que eu havia sentido naquele momento da minha vida em que eu ouvi a música pela primeira vez, nas entrelinhas eu entendi que Neverending Nights era sobre um período do seu dia ou da sua vida em que quando todos os seus amigos estão longe ou foram embora, e você está sozinho, a única companhia que você tem...é você mesmo. E naquele momento tão íntimo, as lembranças das coisas que te corroem por dentro retornam e você não consegue lidar com esse tormento, como uma ferida no céu da sua boca que sararia se pudesse parar de passar a língua. Um instante que dura uma hora ou uma eternidade em que sua própria mente te tortura com lembranças de algo que já passou, mas você não consegue esquecer dando oportunidade para que mais e mais problemas ainda mais antigos e não resolvidos retornem para remoer meus pensamentos, como fantasmas que gritam no seu ouvido o tempo todo.👻

Mas apesar de todo o tormento, que segundo a minha interpretação, tanto na música como na história, em algum momento as lembranças se vão e aquela noite vai terminar no amanhecer do novo dia, abrindo caminho para um outro ciclo e novos propósitos que farão com que a cada noite, aqueles gritos não passem de meros sussurros. 🖤🤘🔥
