Chapter 574 : The Compassionate Elders

“As for the rumors, there is not much point in paying attention to them. They are exaggerated as always.”

Homura was annoyed by Hiruzen's response. Even though it seemed like Hiruzen answered his queries, in truth, Hiruzen didn't give him any details. Understanding that Hiruzen didn't intend to leak details about Fujin's past and abilities, Homura didn't push and instead said, “By the way, when we were returning, Fujin said something that was very intriguing. I didn't expect someone as young as him to have such thoughts.”

Hiruzen was surprised. Fujin hadn't mentioned anything that had happened after the meeting was over. He asked, “What did he say?”

Homura informed Hiruzen about Fujin's words to the diplomats when they questioned his methods. It caused Hiruzen to fall into a deep thought. Homura asked, “What are you thinking?”

Hiruzen sighed and said, “It looks like the next generation isn't fond of my conservative methods. Though I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering that they grew up on stories of how strong Konoha once was and the mighty warriors we produced but only got to experience a weak Konoha.”

Homura nodded and said, “In terms of approach, he is more similar to a young Danzo than you.”

Hiruzen agreed and said, “That said, a bit of aggression isn't bad. Konoha has been passive ever since Minato's death. Though I and Danzo schemed quite a bit, all our work was done in the dark. With youngsters like Fujin and Kakashi stepping up, there is no harm in loosening up a bit and flexing our muscles. It might just be a good deterrent.”

Homura shook his head and replied, “A bit of aggression will be good. However, being overbearing will have the opposite effect. Even though Konoha's strength has recovered to a great extent, we are no longer as strong as we were during the Second and the Third Great Ninja Wars when we could take on all four Great Villages at the same time.

Both Iwa and Kumo are as strong as us and have an advantage in terms of numbers. They only lack in terms of rank S ninjas. When the next Great War takes place, we can't take on both of them at the same time. If Suna or Kiri were to help them, we would collapse for sure and might be forced to give up the majority of our lands or even the village.

Fortunately, the current situation is favorable for us. Suna is very weak. All their old rank S ninjas have retired or died. Apart from the Kazekage, they don't have any rank S ninja. And, Kiri is in ruins due to their civil war. Considering their weak strength, both will be wary of Iwa and Kumo's strength, worrying that they will be the next if we fall.

We can use that fear to ally with these two countries. As long as we do that, we won't be at risk of confronting Iwa and Kumo by ourselves. However, if Fujin deals with the two of them just as aggressively, then there's no chance of making a lasting alliance.”

Homura's expression became serious as he continued, “Hiruzen, I can see that you are planning on grooming him to become a Hokage candidate. However, you should wait for him to become more mature. Otherwise, Konoha's future will be in danger. Becoming a Kage requires not only strength but also wit and willingness to scheme in the shadows.”

Homura's concerns weren't unfounded. Even though Konoha had an advantage in rank S ninjas, in a large war, a single ninja had limited ability. Of course, that was unless someone like Hashirama or Madara, who could solo even the great villages, appeared.

It was the reason why Minato was so feared and became the Hokage so easily despite the village having so many ambitious ninjas. Though not at the same level as those two monsters, killing a thousand ninjas by himself had a great psychological impact on every single village. A few rounds and Minato alone could destroy half of their armies. No village could afford such losses.

Had Homura known that Fujin had mastered the Flying Thunder God jutsu or knew about the degree to which Fujin could control winds, Homura might not have said what he did.

Hiruzen replied, “You are forgetting that he is still only 16. We were very hot-headed and reckless back then as well. As for scheming in the darkness, Fujin isn't a slouch either. I guess he just felt that a direct approach was more convenient in this particular case.”

Hiruzen still remembered the stunt Fujin had pulled off in Suna. It was something that he never anticipated. As far as scheming in the dark went, it was one of the most brilliant ploys Hiruzen had seen. Even Danzo would have considered it as one of his best achievements had he been the one to do it. And Fujin had done so when he was just 13. So, Hiruzen didn't doubt Fujin's scheming ability at all.

He continued, “As for his wit, I am sure I don't need to say anything about it to you.”

A smile appeared on Hiruzen's face as Homura understood what he was implying. He became slightly embarrassed on recalling that Fujin had dumped a rather time-consuming task on him and escaped before allowing him a response just a few minutes ago. He would be stuck with that work for more than a week.

Homura replied, “I am not saying that he is a bad choice, just that he'll need to show a lot more maturity for us to consider him over Kakashi.”

Hiruzen nodded and said, “That's true. However, we can worry about them later. Unless Jiraiya or Tsunade returns to accept the responsibility, I'll hang on until either of them is ready.”

Homura nodded. That was all he wanted to hear. The two discussed some more stuff before Homura left.

The next day, Fujin completed his morning routine and freshened up while thinking, ‘My clones didn't find Naruto or the others inside the village. I guess they finally went to the Land of Wave. I wonder if there will be any changes…’

Fujin didn't particularly care about Zabuza or the sword. Neither was very useful for him. The only one he thought of was Haku. He sighed and thought, ‘A shame that he is very loyal to Zabuza. Otherwise, he would have been a great subordinate to look after Phantom Haven.

Oh well, nothing I could do. Zabuza probably recruited him even before I graduated. The same as Kimimaro, another great option if not for his disease.

Anyway, the next council meeting will be in three days. It's time to make my move.’

Since Fujin had decided to increase his influence in the village and make his position in the council unmovable, he had made up his mind to do something very impactful. He created a Shadow Clone and sent him to the office.

Just when the clone left the house, an Anbu Captain, wearing the Monkey mask, approached him and called out, “Fujin, I have something to discuss.”

The clone stopped and looked at him. Ever since Fujin took over the training of the 5 kids with Kekkei Genkai, the Anbu Captain had become free. As a result, he was put in charge of handling the things inside Fujin's compound, other than his house.

The clone asked, “What's the issue?”

Monkey answered, “We are facing some shortage in training equipment. In addition, I feel that a particular facility should be added to our Training Building. It will help the trainees a lot. There is also some damaged equipment that needs to be replaced…”

Monkey listed a few more things that were needed. One thing Fujin had learnt over the last couple of months was that managing a compound with over a hundred people was no joke. If trained Anbu ninjas weren't assisting him, that would have been a full-time job. Even with Hiruzen's arrangements, there was still a lot he needed to do. It had increased his respect for the Clan Leaders.

Thankfully, he had a way out. After listening to Monkey, Fujin's clone replied, “Hmm, these will assist the kids a lot. I agree, we should make these changes. Visit Elder Koharu and inform her about the situation. Ask her to get these done as soon as she can. It'll be best if everything is done within 3 days.”

Despite wearing a mask, Fujin's clone could observe that Monkey was feeling awkward. He said, “With all due respect, I don't think we should trouble the Elders for such small issues. The last time I went to Elder Koharu, she was looking extremely annoyed.”

In the last couple of months, Monkey had visited Koharu five times. The first couple of times, she didn't mind. The next couple of times, he could sense that she was annoyed. The last time, she directly scolded him for coming to her with such small issues.

Fujin's clone became extremely serious and replied, “Don't view our respected Elders through the same lens as other officials. Unlike them, who only have those jobs because they are afraid of risking their lives, Elder Koharu and Elder Homura do it because of their compassion and love for the younger generation. Nothing makes them happier than seeing the young kids grow.

Even though they might act like they are annoyed, in truth, they are happy that they get to guide the youngsters. It's just that they don't show it on their face. However, having worked closely with them on the Council, I can guarantee this.

So, you don't need to be concerned. Just ask her. If she acts unwilling, just tell her that I requested it so that the kids can train in the best possible environment.”

Despite Fujin's seriousness, Monkey was very skeptical. He thought, ‘I'm afraid he has the wrong impression of the Elders. It didn't look like she was acting at all! But…’

Despite what he thought, there was nothing he could do. He could only follow Fujin's instructions and went to see Koharu.

He's still just 16. Surviving is no longer his goal though as with FTG, killing him is very difficult. Right now he's aiming for the top :) As for relationships, he's still only 16. So plenty of time

Devil Hex

Tftc author. I was curious if we’ll be seeing any character development from Fujin soon. For most of the fic he’s been pretty single mindedly focused on survival. I’m thinking that when asked to be the Hokage, Fujin will have to grapple with the question of “what do you really want to do with your life” because all this time he’s been living just to survive and without any real goal other than “don’t die” which seems like a bit of a half life to me. Especially since he’s at the point where only the endgame threats (Kaguya, Madara, Nagato, Obito) will hurt him.

Nate Drees

Bro went deep into the subject. I like it lol

CloneOfClone

true story bro, we agree xD

Joan FERAUD

Wanted to plan a fight. But having a difficult time coming up with the plot for one... There will be a few political chapters ahead. If I can think of one by the time I'm done, then we may have another mini arc. Else it'll be timeskip to Chunin Exams.

Devil Hex

That brings back memories... Neverending list of young masters, each stronger than the previous one. Getting offended by MC just because he looked at them without fear. Or getting offended that MC has hot girls following him. When they get beat up, their entire family and clans come after the MC 💀💀💀

Devil Hex

like a defeated solider 🫡XD

Slade

Insane how those authors usually have 3-6k chapters. Probably would be 1.5-2k without filler though

FearTcb

Bro wrote a book for real xD You tryin to go into them power scaler discord battles XD

FearTcb

but that's also just kishis mishandling and poor planning. Hiruzen getting the god of Shinobi title was given by people who never saw the first or second, if they did they'd laugh at themselves for even putting Hiruzen up there. Going on by reputation to decide Hiruzens strength despite his age is like kakuzu bragging about how he once attempted to kill the 1st Hokage, failed and still lived to tell the tale😂 Hiruzen has no special jutsu to give him an edge, what he had was just a mastery and knowledge of many skills. Knowledge + mastery + experience + his physical strengths and speed (during his prime) all these together is what made Hiruzen so powerful and difficult to deal with (also again I doubt he even beats 3rd raikage) Now you have a Hiruzen with less chakra reserve and his physical strength and speed at this age being low jounnin at best. His vast jutsu might make him a tough opponent and "could" push him to high jounnin in terms of difficulty to beat. Plus Hiruzen hasn't trained or been active in decades. You could probably suggest he trained in secret ( which I doubt since dude still complains about his paperwork he does without a clone and he's always been shown spying on people, so he'd barely have time to properly train) Sorry but an old Hiruzen ain't touching the 4th raikage at this point in time. Prime Hiruzen would have high difficulty beating the 3rd raikage, hard to see Hiruzen winning but can definitely see Hiruzen holding him off and surviving. Hiruzen being "weak" in the anime made sense considering dude already retired and was basically just keeping the seat warm till the next generation, Hinatas kidnap attempt wouldn't happen if Hiruzen was still feared, heck they even forced Hiruzen to give them an apology and kill his own ninja. Danzo wouldn't have been so brazen either, Hiruzen allowed so many wrongdoings to slide as he didn't want to overstep, yet he had every right to veto all their dumb decisions. it's more reasonable for Hiruzen to be low to mid jounnin physically but have S rank knowledge and techniques that help him keep up with the s rank. look at his advisors, same age yet barely able to fight an elite chunnin. Danzo got hashirama cells and sharigan, chiyo is a medic/poison specialist so she should have ways to preserve her body to low jounnin level (her brother was even weaker by a lot and they're around the same age ) oonki dude was physically weak and slow but his special kekkei genkai is the only reason he's low-mid S Rank at his age. Flying and spamming dust release. Unless you have some special ability or you've done experiments or have medical knowledge to perform on yourself, it's rare for old heads to keep their physical strengths at such a level, and we already know that his physical strength and speed and conditioning combined with his knowledge is why Hiruzen was so strong. Hiruzen can't beat Fujin but Fujin can't beat him either tbh, both have great survival skills and instincts.

Slade

Yeah don’t be gassing Fujin up. Dude has a lot more progress to make before he can comfortably fight in the top tiers. As he mentioned in the story, he might have some capability but he is missing the experience in those higher tiered battles. Not to mention he hasn’t even used FTG in a fight yet so he would be extremely far from Minato’s level of proficiency

FearTcb

Ah, I finally understand why a lot of webnovel authors put stupid young masters in their novels that make themselves life and death enemies with the MC for abslutely no reason. When everyone in the novel is actually intelligent, if the MC has a certain level of power nobody wants to fight him anymore 🤣. I'm really looking forward to have a fight where Fujin gets to actually flex his muscles a bit and gets at least somewhat challanged. At this point, if the story follows it natural course the next big battle seems to be against Orochimaru in the chunnin exam arc, but thats still quite far away. I wonder if you have planned anything before then or is the story going to be a bit more slice-of-life for while?

Galaxy-Past

👍

Devil Hex

ah great, he was actually mistreated in the canon, I want to see that!!

Joan FERAUD

Right now Orochimaru's mastery over soul is much better (even though his soul might be weaker due to being divided). Trying that could actually give Orochimaru a chance to kill Fujin. Jiraiya, even without the sage mode is still quite strong. Don't forget he was prepared to take on both Itachi and Kisame at the same time and fought Pain without knowing what his skills were. For Hiruzen, the one in my story might not be consistent with anime and manga. Hiruzen was rarely given any limelight in the series. I have personally went more with what Hiruzen's reputation was than what he was shown to be. He was called the God of Shinobi (the only one other than Hashirama to get this title) and was stated to be the strongest of the 5 Kage even in his old age. So, Hiruzen in this story is extremely strong. Without FTG and reverse summoning, Fujin would be wrecked by him even with his Wind Domain.

Devil Hex

I disagree, I just honestly think that his might wasn't shown correctly. He isn't the hokage for nothing. On top of that he knows the majority of fujins tricks, granted not all, but i highly doubt fujin could kill him easily atp. With tsunade and jiraya I agree that they only win with senin mode.

CloneOfClone

👍

Devil Hex

ok for minato, we don't really know yet to what extent fujin masters FTG but hiruzen is not overpowered in manga and anime... from memory jiraiya cannot switch to sage mode instantly and of course orichimaru is unkillable (maybe by destroying his soul with spiritual technique)

Joan FERAUD

fujin should incorporate the soul attack jutsu ( Dan's technique) with the eight trigram seal

Mohammed Sheekh

Ah nope. Not that strong 😅 Minato is better at FTG. It'd be a losing battle, and probably the only one where he could die. Hiruzen is overpowered. Even with FTG, he should be able to stop Fujin (granted he can't stop him from escaping). Same with Jiraiya (especially with Sage Mode). Tsunade will likely lose. Against Orochimaru, it's tough to say. But killing Orochimaru is impossible for now. Likely the only one among these 5 whom Fujin can't kill.

Devil Hex

thanks for chapter :). For me fujin is already stronger than hiruzen, minato and sannin he is more lethal with wind vacuum sword jutsu, FTG, wind domain and others Jutsu. It is almost unavoidable. I can't see how they can fight and react without getting killed in one hit except minato...

Joan FERAUD

Thanks for the chapter. Poor Koharu; she will soon consider retiring early.

Hibrael Pereira

Thanks for the chapter
