The Murder Mashup as she called it 😄

Christy

This song is so great, one of her best soundtrack songs. I still haven't seen the movie but it definitely captures the book for sure! There is actually a longer version of the song with an additional chorus and extended bridge if you wanted to listen to it for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q94kA7llGw

Lovely song! I've been holding off watching that movie until after I read the book. But I need to finish reading the Wheel of Time book series first. There are 15 books in the series and I'm currently on book nine. So I'm getting there! LOL

I think Reese bought the rights under her Hello Sunshine production. She has a book club to promote female authors and adapt into tv shows or films

I think this is definitely a song that needs you to have seen the movie to get the song. It’s not a song I listen to a lot but Taylor sounds amazing in it!

Stacey

This song hits so hard as the credit role on the movie. It’s really good. Give it a watch!

This is one of my least listened to songs of Taylor’s but her vocals & lower register especially are stunning and the production is so haunting!!! Loving your reactions and how much you put into each one (and am very excited for when you eventually get to fearless :)) Any hints on the last video of this era? 👀

You should definitely check out the movie. It’s really good. I’d do a watch along.

Maggie

When she drops her voice low into "...and you didn't see me here" sounds so haunting. She just hits the perfect murder-mystery vibe. I love this song. Thanks for checking it out. When Taylor makes a fist, she makes it count.

She did a mash up of Carolina and no body no crime on the eras that you would love!! https://youtu.be/TnudmkxAG0o?si=LpxsSaQfZoENbCUT

Baillie Williams

I can't remember if Reese Witherspoon directed? Or produced but I know she was involved

Baillie Williams

I always wondered how to describe this song, and I think you gave me the word I was missing - menacing. There's something ominous, almost sinister, about it, and while I have my gripes about the book (and the movie), I think it fits the vibe. I have chills every time I hear, "They didn't see me here". When you said, "Let's look at the comment", my first thought was, "No! Spoilers!" and a very famous tweet about Avengers: End Game flashed through my head 😂 It's a new (newish) book, so it's probably not the one you think of. I was VERY annoyed when I finished it, but it's worth reading just for descriptions of nature.

Here is a video of the cast and the director talking about the song and how it all came about, from min. 7 onwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bJkrwyjv8Q

Oh I forgot the Carolina, the place of the story is the marshland of North Carolina

anfilias

That’s insane lol. I shouldn’t be surprised

I’ll check out the book. I have like 6 on my nightstand right now so it’ll be a while 😂 that’s cool background about how the song got in the movie. The director was probably shook haha

Daniel Juke

came here to say this same thing, this song was indeed recorded in one single take!

monika

I believe i read that she recorded this song on 1 take. Remarkable... it perfect encapsulates this book.

I recommend reading the book, it's quite superior to the movie (the movie is not bad, just not that good). Taylor made the song when she found out the movie was being made because she really loves the book. She sent it to the director basically saying "i made this, if you think it's good please use it". The song was made only using instrumentation available in the 50s because that's the time frame of the story. Again, I really really recommend the book, I really enjoyed it

anfilias

It’s a great movie! It definitely can be a hard watch at times. Not music-related at all, but you could add it for the future!
