I am sooo happy that there is something Lil Nas x in here 🙏🏼 His first album is so cool and also heartbreaking at times. I really hope there's some more in the future. This is a decent amount different than his older stuff. The history of how he got into fame/Old Town Road is so interesting. His documentary is very interesting to see how he has had so many struggles coming to terms as a queer black artist.

I get why you’d be suspicious, especially with how quickly he blew up during COVID. He said that he's always loved creating a spectacle, but the pressure to keep topping himself after Old Town Road got to him. You should also consider how quick the media is to vilify a successful gay black man in pop, so I’ve always admired him for standing up to that. After his 2021 debut "MONTERO" (his real name is Montero Lamar Hill), he took three years off. Last year, he struggled with depression and fired his entire team. His label had built an inner circle for him that prioritized success over his well-being, instead of letting him pick who he worked with. He's since hired an all new team, so in many ways, he’s starting fresh. His upcoming album is inspired by his Atlanta childhood and artists he grew up on (like Pharrell). And yes, lol, he sings and raps—he’s also genreless! This era he's putting his mental health first and making music he loves, without the pressure to stay in the spotlight.
