Don't be afraid to educate me on anything touched in this film. Thank you :)

Black Is King (Film by Beyoncé) FIRST TIME REACTION

Comments

Great reaction! It’s a PHENOMENAL film and soundtrack that’s why we’ve been pushing you to watch it

Toya

You should watch making the gift it’s a short little doc maybe 40 min about how she decided to make the gift album and black is king. Also her heel was broken in the already music video so when she’s dancing in the short white jumper one of her shoes is missing a heel and she doesn’t miss a beat.

Koko

Thanks friend!! It was gorgeous imagery throughout

Daniel Juke

Tony!!

Daniel Juke

Not yet, but I will soon!

Daniel Juke

Thank you for this! That makes so much sense. Appreciate you!!

Daniel Juke

Appreciate you for getting me up to speed friend

Daniel Juke

Seriously this dude is of the culture. He understands things. There’s artist in this film that I had to look up that he named from just voice. RESPECT

Jasper Lewis

Beyoncé has been telling her personal truth through song for decades. People just don’t listen.

Jasper Lewis

Using the lion king - representing Nala (who she played) and the tribe losing something they thought was long lost. Only for it (him) to return in a form not planned but powerful.

Jasper Lewis

Some her her songs hit me so much harder when I know that she’s being quiet about extremely hard struggles. She puts the baby in the river to represent her giving it to a higher power. I’m hopes one day she will see them again

Jasper Lewis

of her projects to her not being able to give birth and how it affected her confidence before Blue was born

Jasper Lewis

I’m not the most vocal follower and not to be a downer but I think a lot of us beehive know another life is about Beyoncé miscarriages. I think Jake would appreciate knowing that. There’s also a lot of subtle hints in alot

Jasper Lewis

Her singing spirit with the choir is a tribute to Kobe Bryant. He’d pass just a few months before the release. Very fitting tribute

Faith

Amazing reaction!! Most of the film was shot in West Africa, Ghana specifically. It’s mentioned in the behind the scenes special she did. Also, not sure if you caught it, but the visual to Otherside is depicting the story of Moses, and is dedicated to the child(ren) she miscarried, so her in white at the end would be her in Heaven reuniting with her unborn child(ren). The translation for that ending is “Ancestors in the clouds”. After learning that, I relistened to the lyrics and BAWLED.

Also, filming took place from Africa to across the United States. Some of “Already” was even filmed in her backyard. The ALL white church is a famous cathedral in Los Angeles. The pink mansion in “Mood 4 Eva” is also pretty famous and has been used in multiple movies/music videos including “The Bodyguard” and most recently “Bongos” by Cardi x Meg thee Stallion. Bey also had to get special permission to film in a particular part of the Grand Canyon that is owned by an indigenous tribe. This is just a few little tidbits, there’s so much more but I don’t want to continue to write an essay 😅

I love this album and visual so much and for so many reasons. Bey put so much education and I perceive it to be multi layered. It’s the story of Lion King but as it relates to Africans and the Diaspora. Piggybacking off your white envy comment, during slavery a lot of Africans were converted to Christianity and those who believed in God already, we’re taught the European God. What the slave masters didn’t understand, they demonized. Beyoncé ultimately is trying to teach black people to research and learn more about african spirituality before slavery. She, herself is playing the role of Oshun(an african goddess). It’s getting back to who we were as a people before we were shipped off and disconnected. No matter where each person has ended up, Africa is our home. Simba is being trailed and guided by his ancestors and spiritual guides the way Mufasa led him in the movie. There’s soooo much richness in this film, I’m in awe and pick up something new to research every time.

Areona Howard

Supposedly “Spirit” is a tribute to Kobe Bryant and that’s why the choir is in purple and Beyoncé is in gold

Lakisha DeJesus

This visual is crazy good. I feel like I can pause anywhere and get a perfect photograph to put on my wallpaper😂 loved your reaction! ❤️ as far as I remember, National Geographic was involved in this project as well

Amy

They shot this in Lagos, South Africa, Nigeria , and la, New York

Tia Ingram

What a lovely surprise!! Been waiting for you to react to this one, can’t wait to watch!

Shania Tofilau

The blue guy is Rafiki notice in the film Rafiki knows every move Simba makes but he doesn’t really interfere in his journey, because he knows that’s how it has to be , Beyonce represents his guide , likes mother figure ( Mother Nature) she’s with him always every mistake , she’s in the shadows protecting him but also allowing him to find himself, so the parts where he’s basically copying her it’s like she’s speaking through him

Renay Jackson

I’m so proud of you for understanding everything right off the bat most of your understanding was correct , the beginning was the baby’s baptism and introduction into the world just like Simba ( the white paint like the red roots Rafiki used) it’s a young kings journey to self discovery , it’s Simbas journey 🫶🏾 isn’t it funny how ppl make spiritual rituals seem like a bad thing? When in fact it’s our angels and ancestors who truly guide us it’s that “gut feeling” we get

Renay Jackson

Been waiting on this reaction! Love this film so much! I definitely think you would enjoy the making of the film to learn more about the process of the film. Great reaction as always!!

juanitabianca

Adrian

Ashley Tatenda Kaukonde

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Tony Mandujano

Since you mentioned the love of Beyonce and Jay-Z working together, have you listened to “Everything is Love”? It’s such a great album.

BubblyHuni

When you said “it’s like an evolution” during mood 4 Eva when all the girls were about to jump in the pool, it absolutely was. Mood 4 Eva is the Hakuna Matata of the soundtrack . That’s why Beyonce sings “I’m so unbothered” the equivalent to “it means no worries for the rest of your days” . When those girls jumped in the pool it represents when Simba was walking with Timon and Pumba and evolving and getting older in the original lion King … I have so much more but we will start there lol. Hahaha appreciate you brotha !!! You a real one

Anthony

This was a great end to my night! Definitely enjoyed watching this experience with you and thank you for being a true ally!

Charles Brown

The artist on the song “Already” is Shatta Wale, he’s dope.

Orlando Sebastian Von Suttenburg

Is the making of also on Disney? I'd love to check that out

Daniel Juke

So much love!! This movie was breathtaking. Audio/visual masterpiece. The wardrobes, the camera work, the music and arrangement was fantastic.

Daniel Juke

This film was shot on 3 continents, Europe, USA, and west and south From Africa over a span of 18 months. There’s a lot of symbolism and intentionality with the images, colors, artists and individuals used. I suggest watching the making of the gift, it will give you so much context and behind the scenes details it took to create the Gift album and masterpiece Black is king.

Orlando Sebastian Von Suttenburg

Juke just gets it! We rocking with juke cause juke is rocking with us!! black is king is criminally underrated and that makes me mad because it is a literal master piece it’s in my top 5 Beyoncé projects fa sure This was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
