Greenhouse Devlog 6/22/24 - Trickling Rain

Hey, welcome back. :3

Things are going well on Greenhouse but I don't have the most to say this time. It's hard to think of stuff to talk about right now without spoiling things..

I'm still in that story outlining and sketching faze. At this point I have a pretty solid grasp on the story and what exactly is going to happen in almost every scene. I probably won't be adding any more scenes because each one adds a 1-3 weeks to development. There are 11ish scenes in this chapter right now. For comparison I think ch2 had 8. Some scenes are particularly lengthy, kind of like the dream scene in ch2, but longer.

Deciding not to focus on any particular area of the game and just jumping from task to task has it's positives and negatives, I've found. On the positive side I can do whatever I feel like doing whenever I want to, and that's a pretty big positive. If I ever get bored with anything I can just move on. That's sick. But on the negative side I feel like I'm never fully in a rhythm. I'm still getting a lot of work done but I feel like honestly I could be faster if I was able to get into a groove of just focusing on one particular task. There's also the negative of not having any significant milestones because I never fully finish anything. :P For example in prior chapters when I focused on just writing or just sketching I would finish writing/sketching and I could be like "Hell yeah, I finished something" and it would feel like I was making a lot of progress. But now that I'm doing everything at once it feels a bit like I'm stuck in an endless tunnel of work.

Anyway that's just an observation. Maybe I need to make some changes to my workflow.

The gif above is a wip of the start screen for Greenhouse. It'll be in there for the finished game! :>

Later!

Toy still waiting eagerly for this Masterpeice to release hehehe, gosh so excited

RappyTheToy(Patreon)

Yeah I do a little bit of that too but probably not as much as I should

Ekull

yeah, can completely understand what you feel, most of the time in this cases you need to find what works for you, I miself usually spend the first part day or two organizing the work and creating objectives to do each day for a week, rinse and repeat, but you could feel mopre confortable with something else, everyone is different, just need to find a workflow that feels confortable to you

VorpalBlade97

Oh how'd I read that as sketch 😅 I was like I'm definitely burning out if I do that haha. Good advise tho!

Ekull

Stretch! I meant that we artists and developers tend to spend hours sitting down working. So dont forget to get your butt off the chair and stretch, walk around a little, drink some water too.

Zawkian Puppy

What do you mean by sketching every hour?

Ekull

Take all the time you need! We will be here for when the Masterpeice does unveil. And very lovely rain hehe đŸ–€đŸ’œđŸ–€

RappyTheToy(Patreon)

Yes!!! Routine literally kills creativity! As an artist I tend to try nee methods, like light effects, texture. And don't forget to stretch every hour too

Zawkian Puppy

Good point! Maybe I need to focus more on challenging myself since It's a lot of routine right now

Ekull

I learned the best workforce is the one you feel challenge, yet comfortable. It the best way to avoid burnout!
