VIDEO OF THE DAY

Another bootleg of the day!

Today's is another one of my favorites.  This is what I consider the definitive version of this show

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA VEGAS SPECTACULAR
(I've had this recording saved for over ten years and I do not have the date of recording or cast information.  Any help would be appreciated)

In the early 2000's (post 9/11) there was a push to turn Las Vegas into a second Broadway or sorts.  Dozens of Broadway shows were brought in, had custom theatres built for them, got their scripts trimmed to a neat 90minutes, and then flopped in Vegas.  Avenue Q, Spamalot, Hairspray, and The Producers are just a few.

But the most successful, both artistically and financially, was the adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.

A costume theatre was created and Hal Prince was brought back to re-direct the show.  There are special effects Broadway could never dream of in this production (most notable is the BATSHIT INSANE chandelier, the Masquerade staircase, and the entire final lair sequence.

The show is cut down to just over ninety minutes and it makes the musical better overall.

This is the definitive Phantom and I wish this production was the one that makes it back to NYC
