Rocky Horror has always been a rocky road on Broadway.  The original Broadway production starring Tim Curry (a soundboard audio of the OBC's opening night is uploaded to this pateron for those interstest) was a MASSIVE flop closing almost as soon as it opened.

So far this has been the only Broadway revival.

This is close to a perfect production of Rocky Horror.  The director takes risks  with the material to divorce the audience from their expectation of seeing the film on stage.  The cast is full of broadway royalty (and sadly Alice Ripley who gives a wonderful performance but who is, by all accounts, not a good person).  The staging is WONDERFUL.  The vocals are probably the best Rocky Horror has ever been.

The one sore spot is Joan Jett as Columbia who is WOEFULLY miscast.  Joan does not appear on the cast recording, her understudy Kristen Lee Kelly is in her place, because of arguments with Joan's recording label at the time.

This production was doing well financially until post-9/11 when tourism took a huge blow in NYC.  And it's a shame this production could have had a longer life because it really is close to a perfect production of The Rocky Horror Show.  I can't believe it's been over twenty years since Rocky Horror has been on Broadway and I don't know if I can imagine current Broadway artist delivering a revival of this caliber.
