LESTAT THE MUSICAL

San Francisco Pre-Broadway Try Out
2005/2006 (Date of recording unknown)

Starring Hugh Panaro, Jack Noseworthy (who would be replaced by Drew Sarich in the Broadway transfer), Jim Stanek, Carolee Carmello, Allison Fischer, Michael Genet, and Roderick Hill

Lestat is one of my favorite Broadway flops because it's the first Broadway Flop I witnessed melt down in real time on theatre internet.  I had just started using Broadway World and just fallen in love with the cast recording of AIDA so I was SO excited for a new Elton John Musical.

(Fun Fact: The first idea for a musical based on the character Lestat was by Bob Fosse who wanted to stage a rock musical starring David Bowie and Mick Jagger)

Lestat seemed to have everything going for it during it's out of town tryout at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco.  Lestat broke the theatre's box office record that was formerly held by CATS and the run showed that ticket buyers were more than interested in the musical/

There are major changes between the Broadway production.  In the San Fran production Lestat types his memoirs on modern (modern for 2005) computer as the text of what he's typing is projected above him and Jack Noseworthy plays the role of Armand (Noseworthy was replaced by Drew Sarich in the Broadway production).

The team began to make changes to the show to prepare Lestat for a Broadway run....

And we'll talk about that Broadway run tomorrow ;)
