In modern times the crystals in the Bretonian home world have become a great asset to their society. Long ago it was discovered that once resonating, if a crystal is energized with a significant amount of energy it will generate a tangible field around itself. The fields generated by raw crystals are unstable and have unexpected shapes. Over many years of research, Bretonians have discovered that lapidating the crystals in specific shapes will generate more stable and reliable fields.
Crystal Artisans
Discoveries did not end there as artisans found out ways to imprint holographic matrices inside solid crystals using specialized tools and what was truly remarkable was that when energized the shape of the field generated would match the artisan's design. This gave birth to a new craftsmanship as in the hands of expert artisans, with an intimate understanding of their medium’s properties, the crystals could generate fields far stronger, stable, and versatile than any simple lapidated crystals could achieve and with far less energy needed to power it.
Crystal Field Tools
With the availability of modern portable power sources, crystal field tools can be made to be portable. The Bretonians use these portable fields as tools, shielding, and even martial weapons. However, the portability of these devices is only available to the Bretonian people, due to their natural ability to resonate with the crystals, lowering the field's power consumption. Crystal tools also can’t be made to be too intricate, as attempting to generate a field with delicate and complex shapes always ends up collapsing it. Sharp edges for example are impossible to generate.
