First and foremost I would like to wish you all a happy 2023! May our studies, projects, and relations bear fruit and bring us joy in this year to come.
Patreon
After some consideration on what I want to do going forward with Patreon. I made up my mind and decided that I want to make games.
I've made games before. Under the name TovarichChan, I made Volumetric Enhancement Center, which to be fair, it’s just a glorified calculator that I worked on while learning JavaScript. As well as Project Delta an early proof of concept for an “open world” game about a size-changing superhero, made in unity. The demo didn’t attract much attention so I ceased development.
I still don’t have any specific game idea in mind right now. I have a pretty eclectic taste for games and enjoy playing new games with unique ideas more than replaying something that I enjoyed in the past. Making games can take quite a long time and require many different skill sets. All this to say, expect me to start by picking very simple projects and with each project slowly build a framework to create more robust projects.
For the last 2 to 3 years, I have focused solely on improving my character sculpting. It did pay off and I finally achieved the ability to bring character into a project, which is my favorite aspect of games and movies, but I did neglect all other disciplines. This year I want to retake my studies on things I used to do, like animating and programming, and learn new things like sound design and writing, especially character dialog. Having set games as my goal I am sure I will have the opportunity to practice all of those a lot.
Since this is the start of something new and complicated, it will be hard to figure out what I can offer here on Patreon right now and how that attracts new people. It’s going to be prototypes, with rough art and janky controls, for a little while there. So I will probably continue doing models for 3D printing alongside it. Also, I am very thankful for every teacher and mentor that helped me along the way, I always wanted to give back and contribute to others’ journeys like that, and here lies an opportunity to document my process and do just that, which I hope is valuable to some.
