BONUS: Kevin Bonham on polling denialism & electoral reform

In this bonus episode for Patreon subscribers, Emerald and Tom are joined by one of Australia’s finest psephologists (election analysts), Dr Kevin Bonham! With the Greens winning 12% of the vote but only one lower house seat, is our voting system fair? And if not, what are the other options? Polling denialism, ‘wasted’ votes, Hare-Clark, Condorcet vs instant runoff, unicameralism, range voting, multi-member proportional… Let’s get our wonk on. And a little bit of Goldstein chat at the end!

Thanks Emerald and Tom, great episode! Would love to throw sortition into the mix when imagining and discussing how our current systems could be improved. Eg. i) Well designed and statistically representative citizens assemblies to advise parliament on key policy areas- eg housing, climate, education,, etc, ii) MMPR unicameral house of elected reps with an upper house that is a statistically representative citizens jury to either pass legislation or send it back with notes, iii) local assemblies that feed upwards a la Barcelona, other...?
