Hey guys, happy 2026. I hope you all had a great New Year!
It's been a while since my last dev log, and while I did take a decent break over Christmas, work on the update has been progressing nicely. At the time of the last dev log I was just at the point of editing the script. Well I'm happy to report that it is now fully complete and, as predicted, it is the longest ever update by a good 10-20%.
With the writing section of developing the update out of the way, the next phase is by far the longest, and that's creating the renders. So that's what I've been doing since resuming work after Christmas. As with most updates recently, the first few hundred renders tend to be a little bit slower while I work out the kinks with all of my freshly updated graphical/rendering software, but fortunately I'm already over that hump, too.
So, all in all, I'm happy to report that things are progressing very smoothly so far with 0.14! Though there is one thing I want to mention, and I can't remember if I've already brought it up in a past dev log before, but that's that there is going to be some fairly technically complex work involved in the creation of the renders for some long and extremely important scenes this update. To be honest it's something that I wouldn't have even attempted a year or two ago, but fortunately I think I'm at a level where I can pull it off now.
I realise that might all sound a little vague, but I'm being careful not to give the story away, so I'm afraid that's all I'm gonna tell you about it for now! It does, however, present me with a huge unknown when it comes to predicting the release date for this one. I'm aiming for it to be roughly in line with previous updates, so don't expect large delays or anything, it just means I'm gonna hold off on giving an exact date until we're pretty close this time.
Finally, one last thing to note is that January 7th marked Cosy Cafe's third anniversary! It's been a hell of a ride for me, with the game far exceeding my expectations in terms of how many of you have played it, and how many people send me messages full of positivity and love for the story and characters every single day. It truly is hard to wrap my head around sometimes! So, thank you all for your support! It really is my pleasure to get to work on something I enjoy as much as this!
And that about does it for this one. As long-time supporters will probably have come to expect by now, the next few dev logs while I'm in the rendering phase will be pretty light - there's just not much to say beyond "I completed another 300 renders", but I'll keep checking in just to keep you updated.
So, until next time!
- Cosy
