Dev Log 2
Added 2023-01-21 22:33:02 +0000 UTCHello again Patrons!
Welcome to the second dev log. This time I've got a few things to ask you, but first the update:
Update 0.2
I've just finished writing what I had originally planned for 0.2 - It comes in at 14,000 words, making it roughly one third the size of the original release. It covers days 11 and 12, which will be two of the longest days yet, and will lean a bit more heavily into sexy stuff to offset the drama of the "Lucy's mother arc" that happened towards the end of 0.1.
Comparing it to 0.1 gives a rough estimate of 600 renders, and there are 2 or 3 (not certain yet) animated scenes that will probably take a fairly large number of videos relative to 0.1.
I originally told you all that 0.2 would take 2-3 months, however that was a gross overestimation - It will take considerably less than that (5 weeks?), and I'm currently wondering how to proceed. Should I release the original 0.2 content as intended only much faster, or should I hold off and make the update bigger?
I think in terms of AVN development strategy, other new devs tend to focus more on faster updates to generate more hype and get more eyes on their work, but at the same time I don't want to put out updates that people feel are too short to be worthwhile. Currently I'm leaning towards shorter/faster updates, but where do you guys stand on this, do you have any preference between shorter/faster and longer/slower?
The future
Beyond the current update, I've been thinking about the future of the game and the form it takes. There have been a few requests for more open world content, and a few requests for no open world content at all. I've discussed this with a few of you already, but I've decided to stay away from the open world model. Generally people seem to be fine with the style of 0.1, and I think it's the best way to tell the story that I want to tell. However, from now on I will start trying to include more dialogue options, and more optional sex content (as the game progresses) that isn't tied to the main story.
Patreon benefits
Currently I think one of the main patron benefits is the 1 month early access before the public release, but I really want to make sure that you guys feel like you're getting value for your money.
Are there any other patreon benefits that you would be interested in seeing? I can't promise to do everything you ask for, but I will certainly read and consider anything. If none of you have any requests, I'll consider you content with the current offering!
Finally, a related question for those of you in the manager and proprietor tiers - I promised you preview images, and I will deliver, but I want to know your stance on spoilers first. Are you not that bothered? Or do you want me to avoid having spoilers thrown in your face? If so, I could perhaps post to an external image hosting site so you would have to deliberately click a link before seeing anything too spoilerish? Just for context, one of the first images I was planning on showing you at this early stage is Akatsuki's new apprentice outfit (which will be in 0.3, not 0.2). Is that too much?

Any feedback would be much appreciated, either here or on Discord!

That would require Patreon to have any interest in making things sensible or convenient for creators or patrons.

2023-01-22 10:48:27 +0000 UTCI prefer shorter/faster updates than longer/slow updates if there is a lot of content going on in that short update, but if it's a short update with only a few things going on for example: just a whole fight scene shown and then it ends a little bit after or just 20-30 min worth of content. Then i rather wait to get more content. So for me it depends

2023-01-22 00:28:19 +0000 UTC(Sorry, hit enter too soon) As for spoilers, I've seen some creators do this when posting a spoilery preview: Upload two images, with the first image being just text that says "Spoiler Preview". Lastly, for additional benefits, popular options are unused/noncanon renders, or nice pinups/wallpapers.

2023-01-21 23:59:26 +0000 UTCI personally like updates to be at the speed where the dev feels comfortable but productive in creating them. For example, I love Harem Hotel, which has a lot of time between releases, but huge updates (several hours of gameplay per update, at least). I also love The Fiery Scion, which updates once a month or more often, with smaller but still satisfying updates (500-800 renders, around an hour or two per update).
