Thank you, Kris! I'm really glad the character development landed for you. For me, especially with characters going through such intense internal upheaval like Nikki and Sandy, those shifts are a huge part of the story. Sometimes the quiet moments, the processing, the internal battles – that's where the real drama is brewing before it explodes! 😊

Hey, thanks so much for pushing through to read even when you're feeling rough! Hope the meds kick in and you get some good rest. 💕 Yeah, I'm really trying to dig into how Nikki and Zach are kind of circling each other now. They both got railroaded... Different tracks, same shitty destination picked by someone else. Nikki's changes are obviously staring her in the face, but Zach's been dealing with his dad's bullshit his whole life, trying to force him into this political heir mold. They've got a lot to unpack on their little date!

Emory Ahlberg

She could use your advice! Because when Mary Palmer grabs that shotgun, it's like a switch flips. Think about it: she's carried all that history with Hutchinson, watched Nikki go through hell, and then Sandy drops this bombshell about Second Dawn. It's just too much. Will Sandy be able to talk her down??

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you Gemma! Capturing those fleeting moments where Nikki lets her guard down and just feels genuine, uncomplicated happiness is super gratifying for me. It's like seeing the person she was before the trauma peek through - that competitive, maybe slightly goofy person who could find real joy in something as simple as sinking a pool shot. Underneath the anger and the confusion, there's still a person capable of feeling good...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Jade! I see Nikki's vulnerability both as letting go of anger and also as the sadness underneath finally breaking through. For so long, anger was the only "acceptable" emotion for Nick Palmer, the QB. It was his shield. Now, with the emotional amplification from the hormones (which don't create new feelings, but can definitely turn up the volume on existing ones), that shield is cracking. He's confronting the grief and confusion he buried under layers of bravado. That moment of vulnerability is terrifying for Nikki because, in the hyper-masculine world she used to dominate, sadness equals weakness. But the sensitive kid she was forced to abandon is still in there...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Sara! With Nikki, I really see her journey less as something totally new emerging, and more like the original Nick – the sensitive kid who loved animals and Disney movies – finally getting unearthed from beneath all the macho armor she had to build up because of her dad and the whole football scene. That "softness" was always there, I think, just buried super deep. The transition, traumatic as it is, is kind of forcing a vulnerability that lets that core part of him resurface. That shotgun moment with Mom Palmer – whew! It's pure, unfiltered rage fueled by love and helplessness. Thank you for mentioning the art! I use upscaling software to help the textures - especially the hair (Daz hair sucks for realism). Otherwise, there's a lot of compositing, photo-bashing, and manual tweaking in Photoshop. I should make a process video one day!

Emory Ahlberg

🤣 All the Southern politeness just evaporated, and the Mama Bear came out, ready to rip someone's face off. She's been holding back so much fear and fury over what happened to her child, and hearing the full, ugly truth about Hutchinson and Second Dawn just blew the doors off.

Emory Ahlberg

...and quickly!

Emory Ahlberg

I think Zach is definitely responding to Nikki dropping the hyper-masculine act she was forced into for so long. Underneath the QB persona Nick built was the kid Zach originally connected with – the protector, the friend. This whole awful situation is ironically forcing Nikki back toward that core self, even while dealing with immense trauma. It’s complicated, because while Zach might like seeing that old friend emerge, it's happening under duress and doesn't negate the horror of how it's happening!

A slight reprieve. I forgot there will be an episode 68 in Season two at the end of the month. So 66 was not the penultimate, 67 will be and 68 will be the finally. So I have two more episodes to drink in before the famine comes. On average that is 54 panels of story telling to look forward to. So a little more time to move things along from date night. Any chance you could make 68 a double length episode (cue Roger Rabbit voice and sad eyes) "pa-weeeees"!!!!!!!!!!! 🙏 (and girlish but sultry and breathy Jessica Simpson voice) I've been a good girl Santa (well I tried to be anyways 😆) promise!!!

Again, sorry for the delay in posting this comment. Life! What can I say? Also taken aback by just how good this story was and how much was packed into it. So many layers of the onion peeled back. I am still processing. As always I will say the episode was too short. But that is actually a compliment because the story is just so engrossing I don't want it to stop no matter how long it is. I just keep wanting more and more. Again like the last episode we see so much evolution in Nikki. She is out in public, glammed out to the the max and despite a few brief panic attacks, she is holding her own. Even one on one with another woman in the "Ladies Room". Completely sure that was intentional. Nikki who sees herself as a fraud as a woman just took that historical bastion of "Women Only" and MADE IT HER OWN as she put that girl in her place about Zach. When confronting the spy at the end of the night, the old Nick likely would have fought, Nikki chose to run and have fun. To quote Shrek there are layers to Nikki we are seeing, but there is also a maturity to Nikki that did not seem to exist with Nick. But also a freer spirit willing to relax and have fun (granted early stages and small steps). And we got more back story about all the pressure Nick was under from his Dad and how he could not breath from it at times, which again explains the panic attacks. I am excited to see much more of this new Nikki. But WOE, you completely threw me off with Mary Palmer and the shotgun! I mean I get the Mamma Bear act, but a one woman seek and destroy mission against a man who has a huge security crew, pays off police and has people disappeared or turned into "toys" is jumping off a high rocky cliff to save a drowning swimmer below. Sandy may need Mrs Ferris ASAP to talk Mary down. Not sure how you are going to navigate that plot twist and afraid you are going to make us wait until Season 3 to find out. While I absolutely loved this episode, as the penultimate, it makes me sad because I am still craving so much more and fear the Season 2 finale will be excellent as always, but also leave so much for Season 3. I will feel starved until Season 3 begins. Still counting the days until Episode 67 is released!

It took a while, but I FINALLY had a chance to read this. This issue did not disappoint. I love the character development even if not a whole lot else happened except for that one major thing.

Kris Greg

Too tired (and sore) to say much beyond 'great job'. I think you're developing the background of the main characters very nicely - the parallels in their lives - being forced onto a path they really don't want - is starting to show in how they interact, with less hostility and more friendly affection. It's yet to be seen how far their interaction will develop. Going to take some serious pan meds, rest a while, and then I can do a little more psychological dissection of this ongoing roller-coaster.

"Oh-oh come take my hand We're riding out tonight to case the promised land Oh-oh Thunder Road oh Thunder Road oh Thunder Road Lying out there like a killer in the sun Hey, I know it's late, we can make it if we run Oh, Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold Thunder Road."

Diana O'Neil

It might be the motorcycle but this chapter has all the very best high operatic emotions and ambitions of the best Bruce Springsteen songs. And the artwork - just wonderful. I wonder if we’re going to see a universal truth fulfilled: you fall in love with a person, not their gender. Let me leave that one hanging. More later.

Robertlouis

I have few pieces of advise for Mrs Palmer. Bring friends and more ammo. Then there is the ever popular "Shoot Straight, Conserve Ammo, and Never EVER make a deal with a Dragon." Finally, "Shoot first, confirm death, then monolog"

SingularCurve

Another quick comment on your art work. In the last image, the realism of the joy, delight and elation that you have captured in Nikki’s face is priceless!

Gemma

I am genuinely surprised but pleased Nikki let her anger go. Let herself be vulnerable. And I loved the play of Nikki shaking Zach’s hand away and then squeezing it three panels later. The highway motorcycle landscapes continue to be some of my favorite art you’ve made Emory! Bellissimo!

Jade Diaz

I am also anticipating the kiss, but I will be absolutely stunned if Zach has any attraction to Nikki in return.

Jade Diaz

The kind of fish Nikki ordered, flown in from Japan often costs that much at sushi restaurants in the US. (Sometimes more, actually.)

Jade Diaz

Woah caught this right upon upload yay! Wow this is so good! I love how magnetic Nikki is becoming. I love the softness that is emerging there. I can’t wait to see what happens when she is confronted with her inevitable attraction to the masculine ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 the anticipation is killing me! Hehe. Didn’t see that shotgun scene coming. I wonder what drama will ensue. I am reminded of the unforgettable scene in Maid For Life in which Sandy and Josh get threatened at gunpoint and then sex ensues 😈 also, the art looks so polished! Is there some tasteful AI use I am detecting there? Are you using a custom Lora on something like ComfyUI? And are you compositing with other techniques?Very curious about your process. Anyway thanks for coming to my Ted talk haha…

300 $ for suchis? ( with pourboire? ) they put gold powder on it. And rice were made of diamond? That a lot. Suchis are like 20€ ( 21, 67 $) and it's often suchi at will in europe

Oh Emory this episode is so natural, so real. Beautiful rhythm in the conversation exchanges between Nikki and Zack. It was nice to see Nikki’s slip up, is she also ‘bi-curious.’ Loved also the heat between them and how Zack’s responded it it. His sensitivity and empathy to see the hurt beneath Nikkis defensiveness and anger. We saw, and Zack saw, the dilemma, the no win bind, that Nikki faced and ‘got it.’ The parallels in both their stories and relationships with their controlling fathers serving to further deepen their developing relationship. I loved Nikki’s admission that an aspect of her behaviour (when she was Nick), towards him and distancing himself from Zack was that he knew that he was that one person who would be able to see beneath this macho masquerade. Visually this whole chapter is beautiful. The look on Nikki’s face, how she looks at Zack and he at her is beyond ‘two friends putting on a performance.’ Nikki is so animated and Zack must have been drinking in her twinkling eyes and beautiful smile. Her enthusiasm also seems to be contagious as she recruits Zack into embracing her sense of adventure and liberation. Masterful again Emory. Still waiting for the pace to slow down, just a smidge, for them to catch their breath, experience an awkward silence between them and then (you know we all have been waiting for it), that lingering kiss🤞

Gemma

Sandy: OMG Mrs Palmer what are you doing? Mrs Palmer: Now? Reloading... if you want to help in the cabinet behind you are two belts of ammo, could you give them to me please? Sandy: There are four of them do you want only two still? Mrz Palmer: Take ALL OF THEM, thank you. Sandy: I have bad feelings about this...

Maggie Heels

My only advice for Momma Palmer is to change that shotgun to the one with longer butt stock... better grip after first shot because I have a hunch that she might want to reload couple times... :3 ❣️❣️❣️ And Nikki's smile is...sooo cuteee ❣️❣️❣️

mrs palmer picking up the shotgun and making the doomguy face

Alyson Greaves

-sounds of rifle cocking- Well okay then, things are escalating.

Thomas Tolliver

Whoa, Nikki and Zach are having such great time together and Zach seems to enjoy having his old friend Nick as opposed to QB nick. Also...Mrs. Mary Palmer? What are you doing? You're going to get yourself hurt or worse as well as Nikki...and unbeknownst to you...hundreds of other girls like her. God, I utterly loathe Hutch. He just brings out the worse in everything...doesn't he, muse Emory?
