Half Sisters - Episode 62

As Nikki undergoes her final preparations for her "date" with Zach, the makeover brings up unexpected feelings about guilt and redemption. Meanwhile, Zach struggles with his father's expectations before the date even begins.

I have 24 new pages of Nikki, Sandy, and Zach! Again, it's just wonderful to have "the sisters" back together. They're both so difference since even the start of this season... with more changes to come!

I can't wait to hear what your thoughts on Episode 62! 😊

BRIGHT red hehe

Nikki is positively glowing.....and those lips! x

stacy C

Welcome back!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, DJ! I really loved those panels too. 😊

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks for the comment, Sara! That motorcycle ride definitely stirred SOMETHING in her. 😉 Part of her just wants to get this night over with. The other (she would say SMALL) part is excited to hang with Zach because he understands what she has been through because he has been through it himself. They can have fun together.

Emory Ahlberg

Oof, great comment, Elrod. The thought of Zach being forced to choose between Nikki and Armando is heartbreaking. I can see Zach being torn between his protective feelings for Nikki and his fear for Armando's safety. Who would he choose??

Emory Ahlberg

That one does. btw Im back after shenanigans with post office and bank and patreon.

SingularCurve

And just to clarify my thinking - I want to see Nikki all dolled up in a sexy Valentine's Day outfit. A really super-sexy seductive V-Day outfit.

Elrod W

Just had a wicked evil thought (based on latest browsing in a Daz3D sale) - imagine if Emory overlaid current-real-time (approaching Valentine's Day) with Hutchison discovering Armando - and he reacts by forcing another couple of dates, and in one of them, there's a mandated sexy Valentine's Day theme, including Nikki wearing a very seductive skimpy outfit (that leaves little to the imagination)? With lots of physical contact (kissing, etc) - and to be a total asshat, he lets it be known that he has a PI following / getting pics of Nikki and Zack? (Nothing like a gigantic shove into 'romantic' situations) And a threat to Zack - get physical with Nikki, or Armando will get physically AND mentally transformed? And being a total asshat, after there's evidence of Zack and Nikki getting to at least 3rd base, Hutchison arranges for Armando to vanish to be turned into a mindless bimbo toy anyway. Because of course Hutchison would do that.

Elrod W

Ahh yay more of my fave comic ever. The plot thickens! I really want Nikki to feel a pang of uncontainable animal attraction to his “bro” on that bike ride. Like earth shattering hardness perhaps, felt by Zach with some surprise thorugh the fabric even… maybe this is where Nikki can discover unexplainable arousal in being in a relatively submissive and femme position. Like being in a stereotypically feminine posture with a masculine man is a turn on. I can’t shake the idea that Nikki really has been extremely gay and extremely sub all along underneath the facade, I’d love for him to embrace his new body as he leans into that realisation for sexual reasons more than for gender identity. I dunno I just find this sexy and unique as a character!

Sara Dune Tone

nikki in page 9/10 is such a babe

DJ

Emory, I too have to compliment you on the art and the expressions and non-verbals it communicates so subtlety. I loved the expression of surprise on Mary's face when she actually sees Kikki dressed for the date and your inclusion of the spilled coffee to subtly emphasis it. Or the annoyance on Nikki's face when she thinks Zack has stood her up. Also the look of relief and excitement when she hears his motor cycle. Even something as simple as her hand gesture over her chest in that second to last image presents such a feminine response and yet looks so natural and unaffected. One has to wonder was that a product of the hormones or the overt and subliminal training Nikki went through on the Island? Will there be any more flashbacks to the Island and providing more detail of what Nikki personally went through? We have had one so far and an earlier appearance in Jack and Jill. But there is so much more that could probably be shared about that time and what it did to Nikki. Perhaps when we get that crossover and Jill comes to Texas to check on Nikki as Dr. Xu asked? I also can't wait to see more of Mary's back story be told.

Diana O'Neil

Nikki's is going to major in the MRS program and be a good lil wifey for Zach. ;)

Jade Diaz

As Emory is well aware, I spend a lot of time looking carefully at each of the backgrounds in the panels she renders. In the case of the decor at Mary Palmer's, that artwork represents images of the past which have important meaning to her. In particular, a lot of the choices show a pride of place in Texas and being Texan. It represents her fond memories of her beautiful child too, in a style that is completely different from Howard's perspective of the past. If you recall, Howard's house has _very_ little artwork - just three photographs - one with "the Palmer boys", one of Howard deployed in his field combat gear, and one of Nick as a QB, (and a gross stars and bars flag, ugh). These choices give us insight into Nikki's parents and also Nikki herself and the kind of family she grew up in.

Jade Diaz

Emory, thank you so much! Those insights were wonderful and so very helpful! I absolutely love how many of your charters have so many layers, especially Nikki!

Diana O'Neil

Thank you, Diana! Poor Nikki's mom. I wanted her to be a mix of motherly love and trepidation over how Nikki’s handling things emotionally - plus her guilt at seeing her child as beautiful and feminine. And yeah, Sandy's slowly letting Nikki adjust. She wants her to feel an inkling of what she has discovered: that being a girl can be great. But poor Nikki has been through so much, and it's going to be a long, messy process. I see her as a pinball in a machine - bouncing between different identities, different expectations. In a big way, the hormones and the clothes and all the surface stuff is just that - surface. Regarding Armando, I wanted to make it clear that Zach's attraction to men is real, and not just some phase or something that can be "fixed." Does that mean he will never be attracted to Nikki? Not necessarily.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ella! They have really fun chemistry. It was there in Season 1 but was more adversarial. Now they both have grown some!

Emory Ahlberg

Yay! And she did it without being weird or transphobic!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Nolwenn! On the repeated images, I didn't want to dialogue to feel too overwhelming in those shots. Also, with Nikki, yeah, I'm having a lot of fun exploring that internal battle. She was so busy trying to be "manly" that she never gave herself a chance to just be.

Emory Ahlberg

I was wondering when I'd seen one of them in DAZ3D. Well thank you, my muse. Great minds tend to think alike...and they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Timothy Monroe (Holly's traitor uncle) sells his brother's car collection including the VERY FIRST T-Bird ever made to the Crowes so he can feel slightly less guilty...for a month or so. Holly has the phoenix and Summer has the thunderbird...both the bird and the car. https://www.tbird.info/first-1955-thunderbirds.htm

Female-Bosmer-Always

Thanks , Kris! I really dig writing Nikki and Sandy, they’re both such messes (Sandy less so now), but in completely different ways. It’s fun to bounce them off each other and see what happens. And thank you! I want you to feel like you know these people, even if they are going through some seriously unreal stuff.

Emory Ahlberg

And Nikki knows how to ride one, too - or at least she did. Maybe she'll need more lessons from Zach.

Emory Ahlberg

Butt pics coming soon lol

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Hel! Sandy really is coming into her own, isn't she? It felt right to finally have her just put her foot down about her name. It's a small thing, but it's a big step for her - AND for Nikki in accepting it with minimal fuss. I really wanted to show Mary's genuine reaction to Nikki. She's been mourning the loss of her son - but that started even before he was kidnapped. And there's also a big part of her that always loved Nick's softer side. Seeing Nikki re-embrace femininity, even if it's not entirely by choice, triggers a complex mix of emotions for her. Zach’s boyfriend, Armando, is definitely a complication. I see him as a potential catalyst for some serious conflict. He's fiercely protective of Zach, and he's not going to just stand by and watch him get dragged deeper into Hutchinson's games.

Emory Ahlberg

Continuing! You're right about the timeline! Although a freshman starting QB is rare, Nick was incredible in high school, a real phenom. I always pictured him as one of those guys who just gets football on a level most people don't. And you're right, he was taken after his freshman year, which is why Zach got his shot at starting QB as a sophomore - oh and daddy's money definitely helped. As for Nikki's major, I haven't explicitly said yet. Paleontology was Scott’s dream, but Nick was counting on being a pro player so wasn't paying much attention to academics. She definitely isn't academically inclined, either. And about Nick alienating his teammates at St. Christopher's – that’s key to his tragedy, isn't it? He had that natural charisma and talent, but he let it twist him into someone pretty awful. He got lost in the persona of "star QB" and forgot who he really was, or maybe never even figured it out to begin with. That’s part of why this whole change is so devastating - it strips away even that false identity, leaving him with… well, with whatever’s underneath. And even Nikki herself doesn't know what that is yet.

Emory Ahlberg

@Jade Diaz, I absolutely think it has meaning. I rambled on for how long about several different theories. When I say maybe its is just random, I am being self affiancing and humble to not sound absolute and un-open to other's thoughts and theories. I am more curious what YOU think those "specific meaning and purpose and characterization" may be.

Diana O'Neil

The art is *absolutely* not random. It has specific meaning and purpose and characterization.

Jade Diaz

Love your ideas and enthusiasm, Diana! That's a really cool idea about a girls' night out. I can totally see how that could be a turning point for Nikki in a way this forced date never will be. I mean, you're right, that dinner with Zach is basically a pressure cooker. There's no room for Nikki to actually breathe and figure things out when Hutchinson's strings are pulled so tight.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you Emily! Yeah, Nikki's definitely stubborn as hell. I see her as someone who's always been used to pushing through things with sheer willpower, and that's a hard habit to break, even when the fight is against herself. She’s built up this identity as a tough guy for so long, she’s afraid of what will happen if she lets it crack, even a little.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Diana! That picture of Mary and “Nicky” is the ghost of who Nikki was in Mary’s mind, and who Mary still wants Nikki to be in some ways. That’s why it’s right there, front and center. It's her ideal, the golden memory she's clinging to even as everything around her shifts. It’s also supposed to be a little heartbreaking, that image of innocence and connection that was there until Dad stepped in. Good eye seeing Travino’s farm! That’s a marker of a simpler time, before everything went to hell. Before the pressures, before the expectations, before Hutchinson and Second Dawn. The Miss Texas caricature – well, that’s Mary’s past, plain and simple. It’s her peak, her moment of public validation, and it's also a performance, a mask she wore. It's ironic, isn’t it, that Nikki is now being forced into a performance of femininity, echoing her mom’s past but in such a twisted way? The flowers and camera are also part of Mary's past and maybe her future. Minor spoiler: She is an amateur painter and photographer and always wanted to be a professional. The tribal mask... that’s a bit more cryptic. For me, it’s about layers, hidden identities. Think about how Nikki's been forced to wear all these masks – the jock, the bully, now the girl. And what’s underneath all that? Is there something else more real struggling to get out?

Emory Ahlberg

Yeeeah, Nikki's going to be hyper-aware of everything – her nails, her hair, the dress, even just sitting . She doesn't get out much, all things considered, And poor Zach has got so much swirling around in his head... guilt, confusion, etc, and now he's supposed to act like it's just a normal date? Uh oh!

Emory Ahlberg

Wow, Gemma! This is the kind of comment that makes writing this story so rewarding. It’s amazing to see how deeply you’re connecting with these characters and picking up on all the layers I’m trying to build in. You're right about Nikki's mom. She is happy as hell to see Nikki looking so beautiful, like the daughter she maybe always secretly hoped for. But there’s also this layer of guilt, this awareness of the fucked-up circumstances that brought them to this point. It's that push-pull of genuine emotion tangled up with a really screwed up situation, which is kind of what the whole story is about! Poor Armando... I kind of love that you instantly disliked him! Poor guy. Zach is his anchor, his safe space, and Nikki, even in this new femme form, is a threat to that. I think Mando's resentment isn't really about Nikki herself as much as it's about the potential shift in Zach's focus. He sees Nikki as a rival for Zach's attention, and that’s a primal fear kicking in! Your hope for Nikki and Zach – yeah, you’re not alone there! I think that’s the central emotional question of the whole story, isn't it? Can something real and genuine grow out of all this messed-up stuff?

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, Zach and Armando have a history that's deeper than we've seen yet. It might seem surprising that Armando is so together, but remember he's been Zach’s anchor in a storm for years, and that takes a certain kind of strength. Has Zach given up Second Dawn's secrets? It's not clear how much Armando knows beyond Nick being Nikki now and that Zach's father wants them to go on a date... And nice catch on the cars! I do love throwing in those little details in there. And yes, that car is a Thunderbird!

Emory Ahlberg

Oh, yeah, DJ. Things are starting to unlock within her. I imagine that physical closeness, the vibration of the engine, Zach right there… it's bound to stir up some complicated feelings for Nikki, especially given her past and her evolving sense of self.

Emory Ahlberg

😂 Thanks, Singular! One also has to wonder how much Armando knows about what happened to Nikki...

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Elrod! Yeah, that's totally something I can see Hutchison doing. He's all about control, and if he thinks Zack is getting distracted by Armando, he'd definitely use that to manipulate him. I mean, Hutchison's whole worldview is built on leverage. Love, affection, loyalty - those are just tools to him, things he can twist and use to get what he wants.

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, Nikki sure needs that nurturing space. Maybe Nikki can be seen and accepted in a way she hasn't been before, maybe ever. And Armando, yeah, I wanted to bring him in because Zach's life can't just be about this crazy drama with Nikki and his dad, right? He needs something real, something solid. I don't think Hutch has a clue about Armando, and that's kind of the point. Zach's got to have some part of his life that's just his, away from his dad's control. And you're right, he's not a cheater - he's too decent for that.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Robert! Love your comments as always. I really love that you picked up on Nikki's body language shifting in this episode. For me, that's always the most fun part to create the art for - those little non-verbal cues that show what's really going on beneath the surface. I see Nikki as someone who's been forced to be so guarded for so long, and now we're finally getting to see some cracks in that armor. Armando is interesting, right? I always intended him to be more than just the jealous boyfriend trope. His insecurity is totally understandable, and it's rooted in something real – the history of abuse and manipulation in Zach’s life and the very real threat of Hutchinson. I'd say Armando's fear is also about losing Zach to his father's control.

Emory Ahlberg

Hmmm. Plenty to think about in this episode. Nikki’s reluctance and reticence fade with Sandy’s subtle but insistent prompting, and she visibly starts to drop the force shields that she’s held so tightly against any show of femininity, with gestures and body language, all illustrated so skilfully by you, Emory. And the smiles are ever more frequent and relaxed too. Whether that has any significance for a possible future for Nikki and Zach remains to be seen. What is sure is that while the steps are still tentative, Nikki has at last crossed the bridge. The meeting with her mother confirms it. Meanwhile, a new character in Zach’s boyfriend Armando, who’s insecure with good reason about the big date, simply because it’s taking place, but also because of all the circumstances surrounding it: Zach’s crush, his father’s obsessions and sociopathy, and the sheer uncertainty. And then in the penultimate frame, Nikki’s stance and smile as she contemplates riding behind Zach on THAT bike. Enigmatic, but what could it all mean? Great set up, Emory, and some fantastic art, especially facial and gestural. Bravo! xx

Robertlouis

I would agree that the immersion in the estroverse of mom's home, Mom, Sandy, Lauren et al will give Nikki a chance to evolve in a more realistic and healthy manner. He isn't far from understanding the value of the huddle in the ladies room to call audibles! This is the first time that Nikki can absorb her own femininity in a nurturing environment. The introduction of Armando is interesting and natural. It only makes sense that Zach would have his own partner outside of this circus. Does daddy Hutch know of Mando or is this on the dl? Zach doesn't seem like a cheater, at heart

mdaily

Maybe already covered, but I could easily see Emory having Hutchison notice the ' romance' Zack is in, and while the date with Nikki may not go well, Zack knows he can go back to his latest. Only Hutchison makes more dates. Perhaps Zack is finding feelings again for Nikki, leaving him conflicted. Then - Hutchison has the latest boy-toy disappear, with a warning to Zack - he WILL get with Nikki, or else latest boy-toy gets a radical 'treatment'.

Elrod W

So it is January 31st yet??? 🕒 ⏳😞😫😰

Diana O'Neil

And don't worry about any of the girls' drinking and driving. With Sandy's million dollar platinum card she could rent a Texas size limo to whisk the girls from club to club and safely home again. And what girls' night out would be complete without a photo of them all standing out the sunroof, champagne in hand, arms up in the breeze, making a ruckus as they drive down the main strip. Strip??? Oh snap! sh1t! Did Sandy fly them all to Vegas for the girls night out??? This may be more off the hook than I expected. Maybe Mom needs to tag along as a chaperone? 🤑 😕 🤯🤩 🤣 🤣 Don't pay no attention to me y'all. I'm just spinning some Texas size yarns for the fun of it. 😂 😂 😂 🤣

Diana O'Neil

Of course if Emory wants to put in a panel or two of Nikki at the start of the night on the dance floor doing the "white guy over bite" and all the other girls mortified, that would certainly add a comedic interlude to the episode. 🤓😂

Diana O'Neil

hehehehehe Oh Nikki you so fine you blow mind hey Nikki!! Zach still being super gay before his date with Nikki is on point. I Nikki goes back to Zachs house after the meal, I hope Mando is there to see the new Nikki in all her glory, and she appologizes to him, and gets an uber or something back to Mom's house.

SingularCurve

@Jade Diaz, I have said nothing of the kind.

Diana O'Neil

I think saying that Nikki having a penis somehow makes her lesser is super problematic.

Jade Diaz

I kind of see it playing out the same way. though with a few slight difference. The start is pretty much the same. IDK about going back to Zack's if Armando is still there. Though that could be interesting dynamics considering how much Armando hates Nick/Nikki right now. But I think after checking the dinner box for Hutchinson they will find some bro-like activity (batting cage?) to do to get past the awkwardness and and do the bonding thing. Maybe even start to sketch out some thoughts on how to work together against Hutchinson. If they can find a private place to talk. I agree the hormones running through Nikki right now will have her feeling things that she does not know how to process, which will make her feel uncomfortable and thus absolutely won't like, even if the feelings themselves in the abstract are not entirely unpleasant. But the re-connection with Zack as an old friend and teammate might mellow that a bit to help her get through the date and not go running out in a panic attack which Nick/Nikki is prone to. I agree Zack will drive her home on the motorcycle which she will enjoy, even if she still tells herself it is only because "bikes are cool and badass". And I agree Zack will kiss her at the door. IDK that her head will "explode into star" but the hormonal confusion factor will hit 11. And in the episode to follow, the kiss will be the cause of Nikki in her old bedroom at her Mom's having a minor panic attack and existential crisis that her Mom and Sandy might have to talk her off the ledge over (figuratively). Or if Emory want to really make the shit hit the fan, Zack take Nikki back to her Dad's and Dad sees the kiss at the door! As for Zack, he absolutely does not look into this date in those panels with Armando. I also suspect the date is highly scripted and choreographed by Hutchinson, including the kiss good night. Leading to the same conclusion from Zack as he gets on his bike to head home to Armando... "yup, still super gay..." 😂

Diana O'Neil

OMG, I just had another thought that was "no cap", like so "lit" and "wig"! 🤯 Again about that damn camera. 😂 I have been assuming it was the Mom's and that she took the pictures. But what if the Camera was "Nicky's"? And he was the one who took all the still life pictures of flowers??? And what if the Dad found that too effeminate along with the "Tarzan" long hair, being sensitive, liking horses, hanging with Girl Scouts, etc... and made Nikki give it up to learn martial arts and play football? But the Mom loved the pictures so much she kept them and the camera on her wall? There could be a whole "artistic" side to Nikki we have not even been formally introduced to yet! Or maybe it was a Mom and Son hobby that might become a Mom and daughter hobby? I know, I know, I am probably inferring too much to what is just random CG background art. But the wall does seem to offer up Easter eggs from time to time. 🤔

Diana O'Neil

I know, I know, a lot of thoughts being processed all at once. I am just trying to figure out how old Nick/Nikki is. I am guessing pretty close to 21 if he would have been a senior. Though Hutchinson may have knocked a few years off Nikki's ID. I am also wondering what kind of student Nick was? What was he majoring in? How were his grades? Did he have the same arrogance and cockiness in class as he did on the team? I am guessing he was majoring in something kind of generic and conventional like a "Business". Figuring he was going to go pro and would not really "need" the degree, but might be nice to have to manage his finances and investments as a pro player making 8 figures a year. You know, there to play ball and make a name, and get an education and a "sheepskin" (no not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter) as an after thought. As Nikki, the whole "co-ed" school thing is a second chance at re-creating herself academically. She could do Business if that really is where her interests lay. But she could also explore the sciences. I kind of see her maybe leaning towards the liberal arts. Maybe English, Literature, Psychology or Philosophy? Or maybe the Arts? Possibly if that photography idea I had were to come to pass? I am just feeling like a major that might help her process or express her own thoughts, feelings and experiences might be useful for her development. They would also probably help her refine her written and verbal communications "Dude". 😉 For the nerd in me I would kind of be interested in seeing a transcript comparison between Nick's freshman year and Nikki's at some point in the story. In one sense it should be easier getting a second chance to start over and learn from your mistakes made the first time. But for Nikki this time around, to paraphrase Ginger Rogers talking about dancing with Fred Astaire, she will be doing backwards in heels and a skirt.

Diana O'Neil

And one other off the way question. This date means we are getting closer to the start of school. What is Nikki going to major in? Was Nick enrolled there before disappearing? I am a little confused about the time line? I assumed Nick and Zack played together on the high school football team and then both graduated and were recruited or walked on to the St. Christopher College team. I am guessing that is when Nick disappeared after that freshman year maybe? And now it is a year later and so Zack would be a rising Junior and Nick would have been too (assuming they are the same age and Nick was not a year ahead as I once thought). Now Nikki is an incoming Freshman co-ed (is that really still a term in this day and age?) . Or I guess Nick could have played two years at St. Christopher College, been kidnapped for his junior year, and now Zack is a senior and starting QB and Nikki is again the freshman and likely cheerleader dating the college quarterback. I am just a little confused how the high school years (four years in the US) lead to the college years (also four years in the US). And how many of Nick's high school team mates joined him at St. Christopher. Because it is very unlikely every player from his high school team was recruited and/or chose to play at St. Christopher. So I am just trying to get a feel for how long Nick had to alienate all his Teammates at St. Christopher. It is pretty rare for Freshman to walk on as the starting QB, unless the team is REALLY bad. So I am thinking the latter time line, he played for two years was kidnapped after his sophomore year (still unusual to become a starting QB that soon, but not totally improbable if the kid is a phenom or there was an injury to a more senior QB and he is the back-up. That means that Nick would have missed his junior year of college which is how Zack got moved up to stating QB and will be entering his senior year as the starting QB. If Zack is a senior, then it might also mean Hutchinson is on a fast track to hear wedding bells some time after Zack graduates and let Nikki finish up her degree on line or something. Since she can't have babies, Hutchinson will probably want her to get the degree to move the power couple image along and then he can give her a job in one of his businesses. That way she is not out of his sight or away from Zack too long.

Diana O'Neil

Here we go again Emory, brain over thinking... this time about that camera... A few episodes ago we saw a failed attempt at post return from Island Father-Son bonding. Nikki and her Dad went hunting and Nikki could not shoot the deer in her rifle sight. Then Dad killed it but left it for the scavengers causing Nikki to feel sick. I see a possible Mother-Daughter bonding outing, again shooting deer, but this time with that camera on the "Mom wall". No deer are killed and Mom and daughter find a new bonding activity and creative outlet they can share. For back story context maybe Nikki's Mom use to be really into photography and pretty good. Hence all the flowers and still life photos on the "Mom wall". But maybe the Dad did not approve or some how felt threatened by or jealous of her talent and made her give it up. Or maybe just the demands of raising a family left little time for personal hobbies? IDK. But now Nikki's self discovery and Mom's time apart from Dad are inspiring Mrs. Palmer to do some of her own self-discovery and re-discovery. And perhaps that leads to her taking pictures of Nikki that lead to Nikki being "discovered" or encouraged by Mom to become a model. I don't know why I get that vibe from Nikki? It is not something that would compete with her being a cheerleader. Something I think we all see per-ordained in Nikki's college future. In fact it would probably compliment it. And it could be as little as local store adds in news papers and flyers, or could by the end of the story blow Nikki up to International super model status if you chose to take the story in that direction. And if you did it would be a very welcoming environment and career for a transgender person. Especially one with Nikki's height, looks and body shape.

Diana O'Neil

Love the direction. I cant wait for Nikki to hold on tight. There's a few reasons girls love motorcycles, and I hope Nikki gets a little turned on from holding tight ;) Maybe on the way to the date spot, and again afterwards. Gaaaaah I can't wait to see Nikki and Zach go all the way.

DJ

My own thought is that Nikki and Zack will rekindle their childhood friendship, may experience some confusing emotions that are a product of that past friendship, respective past trauma, shared present adversity and chemically manipulated hormones in both. As well as the fact both are under 25 with still developing frontal cortex. I do think Zack as he has been introduced by Emory is a little too obvious to be the true romantic interest, and that she still has some twists and turns ahead for us in this story. Not to mention, as you might agree, Nikki needs a whole hell of a lot more self discovery and interaction with men and women as she currently presents before jumping into some major romantic relationship. However I don't think Zack is going anywhere. He is having his own evolution arc making him a very interesting character and I expect will remain an important part of Nikki's inner circle as the story progresses. At least those are my completely subjective opinions and preferences with no value any greater than anyone else's.

Diana O'Neil

I mean Hutchinson seems to think his son Zack is attracted to the "feminine essence" of Nikki. So as long as he can enhance that while leaving a "little" element of maleness to her, his "gay" identifying son will be happy. And to Hutchinson's delight, outwardly the couple will present as a cis power couple in Hutchinson's mind. And that may be supported to some degree in earlier dialog during the fight when Hutchinson revealed that Zack begged him not to remove Nikki's male genitals. Was that kind and sympathetic or a selfish plea (knowing his dad was going to force them together when Nikki returned)? Also some have posted here their thought that Zack might actually be bi. Possible, but nothing so far in the story suggesting Zach has ever had any relationship with girls or any interest in one. Still I guess there could always be a moment of new self discovery?

Diana O'Neil

@Jade Diaz, I know, and you are absolutely right that it is way too soon for her to process a decision like that and make such a major and irreversible life choice when she is still reeling from the Island experience and transformation. I am not actually advocating for it (at least not yet). just suggesting that as long as there is some element of maleness to Nikki, Sandy's strategy of trying to "girlify" Nikki to prove Zach is "totes" gay and not the least bit interested in "super girlie" Nikki sits on some "sandy" (excuse the pun) soil.

Diana O'Neil

You are so right. And I am so not a Texas girl. Still I should have known that y'all! 🤠 😉

Diana O'Neil

Thank you

Gemma

Fantastic post Gemma. I don’t think I will have much, if anything, to add to that masterful summary.

Robertlouis

I agree with Jade. Kendra, Davis's "wife" tried to commit suicide four times. The late Rod Serling described Davis best: "a strutting animal whose function in life is to give pain." Truly the most morally loathsome character Emory's imagination has produced.

Female-Bosmer-Always

Muse Emory, you are as brilliantly talented as you are unpredictable. I expected something similar to Jack and Jill...happiness and sadness, instead I got Zach and Armando. I never expected Armando to be so super cool and collected as Zach seems to essentially spill his monstrous father's Second Dawn secrets. Please tell me Zach knows about Xu's "Clean-up Protocol" from Daddy Hutch and won't blab to the wrong person and get innocents killed. As a gearhead (petrolhead to muse Alyson) I must say the B.M.W with the triquetra badge was a nice touch...as it the car coming in the opposite direction...1955 Thunderbird, it looks like. Too fuzzy to be sure. Or is it supposed to be a Valknut?

Emory what a great episode. Half Sisters continues to be a beautifully crafted story that operates on so many levels. The depth of the characters, the story themes and the many twists within it. Within this such wisdom and personal growth in the various characters journeys towards self-actualisation, and all of this in the context of ‘forced feminisation’- what is there not to like. This latest chapter is certainly no exception. Sandy as a character in the story continues to blow me away with how clever she is and the deep wisdom she has developed as a result of her own personal journey. Whilst in her conversations with Nikki she had and has a her own hidden agenda around manipulating Nikki towards feminisation (to keep her safe), she also appears to be focussed on trying to enable Nikki to grow and be more able to embrace her underlying true sense of self. Enabling Nikki to look beyond outmoded limited archaic beliefs and perceptions on ‘sensitivity’ and around being ‘tough’ as traits and characteristics that are defined and ascribed attributes based solely on your gender. Through this, opening up and enabling Nikki to embrace her ‘true self’ and ‘sense of ‘ self rather than ‘acting out’ in line with stereotypical assumptions and expectations around gender held others and within society. I love Nikki’s developing sensitivity as she revaluates how she used to be and she appears to be determined to grow as a person within the context of the trauma she is experiencing around her (still to date) forced feminisation. Then there was also the interactions between Nikki and her Mum. Her Mum trying to contain and hide her excitement and the mixture of other confused feelings she is having around her thrill and excitement of seeing Nikki as such a beautiful girl and daughter, and all of this, at the same time, within the ‘horror’ she may think she should feel around seeing her son being forcibly transformed into a girl. I loved the way and the levels she acknowledged and embraced and affirmed within Nikki her attributes of being’ beautiful,’ ‘confident’ and also ’powerful,’ and how these traits can co- exist within the context of presenting herself public ally as a girl. I was personally taken back and surprised by my own feelings of dislike I immediately experienced towards Mando when he finally made an appearance in this episode. I mean , there is no reason for me to hate him, he has done nothing wrong? He seems to be an ‘okay guy.’ Upon reflection I realised my feelings of resentment towards him were based on the threat he posed to my own agenda and hope within this story. How I want Zach and Nikki’s romance, attraction to each other becoming more apparent and for them to move more towards a loving relationship and an eventual ‘happy ever after’ romantic conclusion. On the flip side, however, I was pleased to also note what I sensed was Mando’s underlying insecurity and an awareness around the ‘massive crush’ Zach had (may still have) for Nick/Nikki. I believe Mando can certainly sense Zach’s ongoing attraction and crush on Nick/Nikki, and also the potential that this may in actual fact have developed even more since Nikki’s underwent her feminisation and the psychological shifts that have taken place as Nick became Nikki, Mando noticing the increasing attraction Zach is developing towards Nikki as he witnesses how Nikki appears now to be reconnecting with aspects of her old self and this younger version of how she used to be before he/she had succumbing to being corrupted by toxic masculinity by her dad. Also, I wonder and hold onto the belief that Zach’s attraction to Nick was not purely because he was male. Moreover in fact, I would suggest that Zach, to resolve and make sense of his feelings of attraction to Nick (when he was male) assumed that he must be gay. I believe Zach’s underlying and ongoing attraction to Nikki in her new female form and status (as Mando senses and suspects) reveals and highlights that Zach’s more likely is bi-sexual. That and his attraction Nick/Nikki is based on the person and not just defined by his/her gender. These thoughts are both my currently held views and hopes in relation to Nikki and Zach and their romantic relationship moving forward. Without sounding too contradictory around ‘gender characteristics’ and attributes,’ I have to say I was also pleased seeing in the last few images and the ‘very feminine like’ scorn on Nikki’s face as she went through the ‘role reversal’ experience around having her ‘boyfriend’ being late to pick her up for her date. I loved how this was followed by Nikki’s girlish excitement around hearing Zach riding up on his bike. The mixture of feelings she experienced around ‘not wanting to ruin her hair and the excitement of being on the back of his bike. This excitement, I believe is not just about being ‘bad ass’ but moreover Nikki revisiting, and maybe not yet willing to acknowledge, the many feelings that arose within her she encountered when holding tightly on to Zach the last time she was on his bike. In relation to this Emory you made me smile, and my above thoughts were affirmed as I read the last exchanges you provided between Nikki and her mum around her travelling on the back of Zach’s bike. Mum: “Fine, fine! But only if you promise to hold on tight.” Nikki: “I…yeah,Mum. I promise.” What a great conclusion to this episode. N.B. Just re-edited my previous notes

If we're speculating about this date, I think what's gonna happen is Zach is gonna take Nikki somewhere nice but not _fancy_ and then there will be some awkwardness as Nikki realizes at some level how attractive Zach is and how that makes her feel (spoiler: she will *not* like that at all.) And then Zach will mention that he just bought a new baseball Playstation game and Nikki will humblebrag that she will kick Zach's ass at it, and then end up at his place, and after Nikki does indeed destroy Zach playing the Texas Rangers, he'll drive her back and kiss on the porch where Nikki's brain will simply explode into stars and Zach will be like "yup, still super gay..."

Whoa whoa whoa, you gotta slow your roll here. Nikki is nowhere near the mental place to even _think_ about any kind of bottom surgery. It's shocking that Nikki is as functional as she is currently given the trauma of her time with Davis at Clinic 12.

O.K. Emory, when are you going to "spill the tea" about the "Mom Wall" girl!?! That wall with all the pictures we see so much behind Mrs. Palmer at her home. We have seen hints on it of things to come or providing subtle history to things that have happened. The picture of Mrs. Palmer and "Nicky" that was part of the inspiration for Nikki's date hair. There is also the b/w picture of Travino's farm. Now we see the Ms. Texas caricature. Again connecting present Nikki to her Mom's youth. Then there are all the flowers. Pretty and perhaps seen as feminine. One is of Blue Bells, the Texas state flower. But then there are other things that seem random, but knowing you likely are not. Like the tribal mask. As I mentioned before, perhaps an allusion to the masks Nikki is and has worn intentionally or subconsciously? There is also the 35mm camera. Just a random antique? But with all the flower still life's was Nikki's Mom once into photography? Could this become a new passion for Nikki? or might it suggest that the Mom might start taking picture again including of a blossoming Nikki that might lead to a modeling career? I mean she is a tall girl, and designers like their pieces on tall, slim but curvy girls. She also would not be the first trans catwalk and major designer model. And now there is a new box I think with two cream of bone colored objects that are obscured by Mom. What might they be and what might they add to the story? Dish Girl, no cap, its driving me nuts!

Emily, I like your suggestion about a drink, and it might take a slight edge off, but I doubt it will do much. This date is forced and so much pressure. You know Hutchinson will show up or have spies. Also it will be hard for both to talk about what is really going on in a public place. So I think it will be hard for Nikki to relax and let her hair down so to speak. Though I think it may help reinforce the Nikki-Zack alliance against Hutchinson. Also I'm sure a few more subtle moments of Nikki noticing Zach from a more female perspective. But I doubt enough to cause her to act. Just more processing and confusion on her part about what all is going on inside her as well as outside her. Where I think a few drinks would let down Nikki’s hair and soften her shell is a night out, after this date, with the girls. We have seen Nikki singing along at home and in the car to what seems to be “girlie” songs (at least from the lyrics Emory provided). I see a night out with Sandy, Lauren and the rest with a little pre-party dinner and drinks at her Mom’s house (so Mom can add her thoughts and observations) before the girls head out for the night. Then the girls all coaxing and pushing Nikki to feel and let out some of her more female nature. With the alcohol loosening inhibitions allowing the girls to more vocally express and demonstrate how they revel and thrive in their own feminine natures. Sharing some unvarnished nuggets of truth, good and bad, along the way. Just girls out having a good time. I think this will go much further in progressing the change in Nikki's self perception and identification and reduce fears and misconceptions Nikki has about what being a girl means. The alcohol will give Nikki some deniability to say it was not her at 2:00 am with the girls at the Karaoke bar singing Shania Twain at the top of their off key lungs, it was the alcohol. But she won’t be able to deny how much she enjoyed it, or what a good time she had, and how she loved being in the company of other women (in a self identifying non-dating way). Also, over the course of the night getting Nikki out on the dance floor will help her start to feel more comfortable and less self conscious in her body and how it moves now. And also to practice, aided by the beat of the music, to move more like a woman with less thought and more feeling and instinct.

This is what I’ve been wanting. Her with sandy and her mom. But damn is her egg super thick. Might I suggest a little something to drink to take the edge off and she finds that most of the night is actually enjoyable (as a woman)

Emory! This was so good. Sandy is mvp, and good on her for demanding her name be used. Long overdue and not just because they're in public. Mrs Palmer though, is such a sweetheart. Her absolute shock of how pretty Nikki is was wonderful to see. I think my favourite moment was how pissed Nikki was for getting stood up, said she never did that and got corrected immediately. Girl, your mom was right there. Nikki looks gorgeous, Zach's boyfriend is going to get himself in trouble at this rate. Either by doing or saying something stupid or because Hutchinson seems him as a road block. Amazing episode. Oh hey, i know what an Astro is now. (Hi jade!)

Loved it! But were are the pictures from behind showing that Butt!! 😁

( sorry for my englis i really try without google trad) I Love your point of view. Actually i don't think this date will go sexual too. But zach and nicky are both under weird hormonal chimestry. ( look what they physically did to them) What if the hormons can programm someone to be really attracted to an other specific person. Nicky and zack could be physically attracted to each other and both desesperetly fight against it. But there will be no real love between them at first, it will be progressiv. and the father know that. More they pass some time together, more the hormons are effective. i mean there was something after the first date between them at the end of the first date and when nicky saw zach shirtless.

I do love a good bike...

Good episode. It bugs me a little that you use twice 3 images. But ok ( usually it's more the girl who is 15 min late.) I really like the psychic evolution of nicky. She fight it but she's more a woman than she want really to be.

Nolwenn

The real breakthrough here is Nikki trying hard not to keep deadnaming Sandy. Also ASTROS!

Jade Diaz

It’s so lovely to see them bonding as girlfriends! 💕

I've missed Nikki & Sandy. This is my favorite series of yours after Jack & Jill, & I'm looking forward to more crossovers between the series. I love how you make these characters feel like people to me.

I am probably the only one, but I don't see Zack as the guy Nikki eventually winds up with, if she even winds up with a guy. And as cliche as this will sound, I think after some awkwardness and some confusing signals between the two working closely together and dealing with all the emotion and confusion of their situation, that Zack would be an amazing "gay best friend". And maybe even his boyfriend will come to accept Nikki and put their less pleasant history in the past? So I am far more excited to see this date as an entirely awkward and at times surreal experience for both Nikki and Zack that does not lead to any romantic or sexual tryst, but does have moments of connection like the Pizza and Madden did.

Diana O'Neil

I loved Mom's reaction! It just seemed honest and unguarded. And yet she was very cautious how to verbally express herself because of previous exchanges with Nikki. I also loved how Sandy is slowly letting Nikki down about the fact this will be far more than one bad date. But you are also introducing more of the feminization of Nikki, from both hormones and conditioning, in subtle ways such at when she was about to cry in the car, and getting upset at Zack being late. That was really quite the shoe on the other foot moment. I love teasing this out and that you did not just "flip the switch" on Nikki after one spa treatment, nails, hair and make-up. It was also helpful to see Zack at home with his partner. It kind of make the "Zack is gay" a little more real. Also to hear neither Zack nor his partner are all too happy about this date. Some fans think the date will turn into a sex scene, but I don't see it. Nikki is definitely not ready to date anyone at this point. She is not even half baked yet as the girl she will become. And it would not say much about Zack if he could turn on a dime like that and cheat on his boyfriend. Zack does seem to be rekindling some care for Nikki. But he has not forgotten all that Nick did to him. I think it may be more reconnecting to a lost childhood friend, and maybe a small amount of "man-crush"/"girl-crush" or how ever you might describe it where Zack may be seeing and feeling a bit of chemistry from Nikki getting more in touch with her old more caring and sensation self, but I am not convinced yet that it is romantic and not simply a platonic attraction. I mean if Nikki really wants to prove to Hutchinson that Zack is gay, she could go for gender reassignment surgery (it is clear Mrs Ferris knows a Doc who can help out). But that might be a bit like cutting off your nose (or something else) to spite your face.

Diana O'Neil

Brava!!! This is amazing. It is much better and a little more real than I was hesitantly expecting. But you are dragging it out so much it is painful. Even though 24 pages is a lot, I still want so much more. I am so glad there is is another episode this month, but don't know how I will keep from bursting between now and the 31st!!!
