Cheong-ah's dad divorced the mom and married the principal. During that time, the dad would automatically get custody and the mom would lose all rights to the child. So the mom had to leave Cheong-ah behind against her will. When I first watched this, I also got confused because the principal would always address the dad as Chairman. But later dialogues would mention that the kids of the principal and the principal herself were actually put on the dad's family registry.

She's deaf since birth, making her not being able to speak 'words', but she's not technically mute. Maybe that's why the tutor (principal) kept forcing her to make proper words.

As someone who has lived with deaf people growing up, deaf people are actually the noisiest people lol, they themselves don't know when they are making a lot of noise when doing things, so there's no self-awareness when it comes to being quiet. Also, just because they can't hear, doesn't mean they can't make sounds from their vocal cords, so the scene of young Cheong-ah crying was actually her crying out loud. 2. Eungyeol doesn't know what his mom looks like when she was young because all of her pictures from her past, even yearbooks and such, were burned in a fire. This was mentioned when Eungyeol was thinking about his mom in the convenience store. 3. It wasn't her tutor, it was actually Cheong-ah's mom. The principal was then hired by Cheong-ah's dad, after the separation between the parents, to become a live-in tutor, but she was using all the wrong methods to try to teach Cheong-ah. The principal also came with two kids, the girl grew up to be the mean one who sticks to Segyeong.
