What's going on with NCT??

My thoughts on the matter.

What's going on with NCT??

Comments

Omg yes, I agree with this one. I mean like jeff said that their a lot more popular in korea, so if they debuted in japan that’s gonna hard and really understand why they take sungchan and shotaro bc of that.

YDReact

with the way sm is going, anything can happen tbh but as per my sources (as of now), lucas is not part of the new bg.

seth james

Maybe Lucas will join the new boy group

freya valykrie

Tbh this is all screaming no confidence in their trainees like no one is at the SM rookie level where they can make an impact with debut. It’s such an easy fix on how the new bg group will do support& reception wise. It’s the same reason why the Dream grad system got cancelled cause if SM really had confidence in who would join Dream it would be happening. They’ve been working on the new bg for years as long as the Nct Jp unit and ur saying they just scraped everything and shifted all the members and now whoever was is the lineup will have to go be in the SM reality show.. that’s cruel. It’s a good chance for Sungtaro to be free from the Nct burden but at what cost lol.

Shana

Your fashion analogy put this into much more perspective for me haha, makes a lot more sense now!!! Thanks for your thoughts Jeff, super interesting!!

I actually like this decision as a Sungchan stan… Maybe I’m selfish but this is what I think as a Sungchan bias. Like I was waiting for his official sub group from 2020 and it’s 2023 now.🤷‍♀️ SM was hyping this NCT Tokyo and still didn’t debut them till now. And even if they debuted in Japan, I think they wouldn’t really take care of them since it’s not a Korea market team. And I really wanted him to debut and be active in Korea, not Japan since he is Korean and obviously it’s much better to be active in Korea Market which is the main market for kpop.. I’ve been waiting for him and Shotaro’s group for sooooo long. I hope SM makes their debut soon. They are so talented…. I will support them in any causes.🍀❤️

Dan

It really is bittersweet. I love Sungchan and Shotaro…but I honestly think debuting in the new boy group might be a good thing for them. I feel like they might get to shine even more then they could as an NCT member. I am really sad about Shohei as well. 😭

Doyoungismyult

Woah that's exciting but also very interesting! Very intrigued now with SM's plans if that's the case 😮

Rein

i can see this happening fr. so many people already don’t stan wayv and if nct japan is gonna start out like this, seems like it’s gonna be an uphill battle for them.

seth james

good point about sungchan being so popular in sk that he can’t be primarily based in japan. i’m sure it’s a huge factor in this decision. and i’m sure they understand that they can’t separate sungtaro

seth james

oh i feel your pain. hang in there. atp everything is a mess and the only thing we can look forward to is that sungtaro will be able to perform soon in a fixed unit. i think that’s all we can focus on right now as i’m sure they’re excited to share with us what they’ve been working on

seth james

the kwangya concept is probably not gonna continue as that’s another lsm thing and unless the new ceo loves that idea, i don’t see him keeping it. i guess for nct nation, they’ll just do the new songs and old nct u songs that didn’t didn’t involve the people that left

seth james

glad aespa is benefiting from 3.0. it’s much better when these groups from large companies have their own teams like what’s happening with hybe. lsm definitely should’ve had a done-deal concrete plan for sungtarookies but from what i remember it was pretty much a hostile take over with sm and welcome to nct universe just ended around the same time. but anyway, sm is a mess 😩

seth james

I dont think the members had a choice tbh. when youre in a position to either leave the company or debut in a new group, it's like, youre kind of forced to. but im sure the boys will still remain friends- just in different groups. at the end of the day, they will all get to perform.

seth james

I sawwww. I'm excited for all the other nct units. not sure how excited about the nct nation era given so much has changed. ofc I will still support the members but idk... it's bittersweet.

seth james

based off my sources, new boy group will be this year for sure. can't disclose anything yet but it's this year.

seth james

I don't think any of the new groups are debuting this year. The new girl group has a chance to but it sounds like both the boy groups are still a year away unfortunately. Unless I missed something in the 3.0 video

Rein

You should watch the new NEO CENTER video that dropped today. It explains more in depth on NCT plans for the rest of the year.

Doyoungismyult

I straight up don't believe SM is gonna debut 3 new teams this year and we're already in june lol. I feel like having sungtaro in the new boy group was a good idea if nct japan is gonna solely promote in japan... they'll have way more exposure but it's definitely bittersweet. I just hope that the members actually agreed to it tho..

billie27

Not sure if you already saw this, but they also released another video on their channel (NEO CENTER) which shows their plans for whole NCT for the rest of the year. They also introduced some of their staffs responsible for all the planning of their future projects and promotions.

eve_ss

Totally agree with u when you said that sm wants to end lee sooman things and star fresh and new but i just think its to fucked up at this point, even the members themselves are starting to speak more about their discontentment. It’s definitely better for sungcho to be in a new group than in a group that’s based in japan. But until like 2 weeks ago sm was still selling the nct commaz merch. And this is really bad marketing for the new unit, everyone is just so frustrated with EVERYTHING. To the point all i have seen is people saying they dont want a new unit and will not support and honestly, i can’t blame them. So in the end everything is just to fucked up and this year is the end of some contracts. It just feels like is the start to the end.

Julie Silva

Honestly, the fandom was awaiting NCT Tokyo because it was the long-awaited unit for Sungchan and Shotaro. Then to have added in the 3 new SM Rookies with them and made them do Welcome To NCT Universe, it was basically a done deal. They played up the connections of that new upcoming unit to the current lineup -- how Sungchan and Eunseok are long-time trainees that basically trained with Jungwoo and most of WayV. The fact that they're still pushing through with the whole NCT Tokyo idea but without the unit that was unofficially known as that is just dumb. Honestly, I don't know how the fandom will accept that new unit wherein the members possibly have no connections whatsoever with the current NCT lineup. Each unit has always been interconnected, yet this new one just might not be.

Mae Q

After hearing about the news I was shocked and mad at SM lol but right now all that matters to me is that Sungtaro are finally going to debut, even if we never get to hear those NCT U songs live with them 😔

Selene Ledezma

yess, he's one of my bias in SMRookies before 💔🥺

eve_ss

oh my you must be a long time fan to remember Hansol .

Lutfi Sapiee

Aside from emotion , i feel like shotaro and sungchan finally having fix unit is what im looking forward to. They had debuted back in 2020 so they wait around 3 years to have a stable platform to launch themselves up. Also for me a long time fan (since 2012) , i hope SM 3.0 wont forget old group as they still generate a lot of money for SM , and they gonna be more transparent about their artist scandal or movement ( like in the past they suddenly put winwin on hiatus for 127 ) . Best of luck for them , for now i just gonna wait and see .

Lutfi Sapiee

When I read the news earlier today I almost got a heart attack, the headline cut off at "Sungchan And Shotaro Will Leave NCT[...]", so I was actually quite relieved when I saw that they were going to debut in another group. 😌 Personally I don't care much about if they're NCT or not, as long as we finally get to see them have somewhat regular activities. I just hope that they're fine with it as well. What I'm really heartbroken about is Shohei, I was really looking forward to see him debut and mix up the idol industry with his "old age". I hope we're actually going to be able to see him again in the future 🤞

Stefan

Between Lucas, Shugchan, and Shotaro leaving NCT, I’m so hurt. Like I should have appreciated Resonance era. It was NCT at their top tier and we have everyone. I’m glad they aren’t leaving SM but it wont be the same because I’m sure the new group wont have the same sound that NCT does. So we shall see 😭

Ashlei Arceneaux

to me it just feels like sm are doing anything atp .. like it seems as if they have no real PLAN for the road they want nct to go down. this is probably what's best for sungtaro but at the same time they had them sitting around doing nothing for 3 years, they connected with the nct members, formed friendships and so on just for sm to take them out of nct? what was the point in the nct universe show?? lol. what's even worse to me is shotaro is JAPANESE the only debuted japanese member besides yuta. the thought of him not only being excited about finally getting a unit but also happy he'd be singing in his native language. i feel like sm taking him out of nct NOW with the current next unit being a japanese unit is so disrespectful. and i DOUBT the rest of nct knew this was happening judging by yuta's comment on shotaros insta letter. it just seems messy for me. in my opinion, this was not a smart decision. maybe for the new boy group sure, they'd have the fanbase of nctzens and shotaro and sungchan tuning in for them but the way it was done was horrible. they fully convinced the boys they were gonna finally get their unit. it deadass feels as if they used sungtaro's clout, had them participating in shows as nct, then kicked them from the group to make way for the new trainees to step in. it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. sungtaro just deserve so much better and i feel bad for the rest of nct having to say goodbye to members consecutively like im still not over lucas' departure and now SUNGTARO??? and no SHOHEI?? sm's management is taking a new low fr. ncity lately has been HELL. my comfort group and my ULTS since their debut in 2016 losing members left and right is just a different type of pain. of course, i will be supporting them and their new group and it is a good thing for them that they'd get more exposure finally and start from scratch in a new group. i just hate that they put them in nct just for them to decide they'll use them for the new boy group bcs from what i remember this boy group has been underway for a whiiiile. so it just SHOWS this was a last minute decision and sungtaro deserve more than that.

sincerely, nai

So if the plan is really to make a survival show for this new NCT unit then it does make sense why SungTaro was not included because why would SM let them join a survival show they're already well-known. Survival show for the new NCT group is so unexpected for me because this is usually something you would do for an entirely new group (not a new group under an already established group)- but then again from a marketing standpoint seems like this is a more convenient way for SM to establish both these groups because then SMNBG will have SungTaro + Eunseok and Seunghan whose already known to public and already got their own fan bases while for the new unit they will be in NCT an established group with huge huge fan base and it's already an advantage for them and good promotion. I'm not worried about their music direction because it's SM and they always produce good music but I really do hope they promote these groups properly. With regards to Shohei - please I'm begging let this not be another Hansol 🥲 I was so heartbroken back then I don't want to experience that again 🥺 I hope his health is okay though. Eunseok and Seunghan - I'm just glad they would still be able to debut in this new group although it's not in NCT anymore. Mixed emotions because I loved them with NCT too 💔 But tbh, I think it's really a better choice for them debuting in newer group than in a group has been in the industry for years because in this new group they'll be able to shine more and also SMNBG will most definitely promote actively in Korea so it's really a good choice for them imo. How to watch Welcome to NCT Universe without crying now? 😢 Sorry for the long post -- I was in a meeting earlier when this news came out and since then I was just so lost and idk anymore. A lot is happening in ncity lately. Just hoping for the best for all them 🙏🏻🙏🏻

eve_ss

I only hope that 'after discussing with artists' is not some bs promotional speech. If this is truely desicions from idols & rookies then l wish them the best. I'm still on guard with any plan from SM since they never not fked it up at some point but since this is a new team post-lsm then I will try to not be a doomthinker.

AleksBh

My Thoughts: So basically Sungchan and Shotaro won't be in NCT Japan anymore because then they'll only promote in Japan, and from SM pov I guess they realized how popular SungTaro is in Korea. Sungchan already got huge fan base in Korea so putting him in a group which will be more active in Korea seems like a better option. SM definitely aiming for another "multi-national" group so adding Shotaro as well in this group is a better move for them because like Sungchan he's also getting a lot of support in Korea and ofc also in Japan. Since SM plans to add new more members for nct new unit I think they thought it's better for Shotaro to join Sungchan in SMNBG rather than staying in this new nct unit having basically all new members. (and also it would be a crime if they separate SungTaro !! If SM did that I'm gonna burn them down 😡). I'm so devastated with this news because I got so attached already with SungTaro being in NCT and I was really looking forward to their debut with the other SMrookies 😭 (their blood is so neo icb sm did this) - It's mess rn in ncity with all these happenings. But more than us, I bet the neos are sad too. "NCT is difficult" - Yuta 💔💔😢 - Still, no matter what happens in the future, I will give my full support to all these groups. Sure, SM is a mess most of the time but when it comes to picking their new groups, they never disappoints me!

eve_ss

Funny enough, I don't think we are getting Shotaro & Sungchan in SMtown under the songs they did with NCT from past experiences with Winwin. Like Im still excited for their next debut. I'm also still concerned about Kwangya. The reality show is also what im looking forward to. It'll help us get to know the new trainees. The girl group, will be interesting.

Maybe i am the only person to think so but i think that this decision will be a good start for Sungchan and Shotaro. As much as i love them with NCT they suffered so much the last years. I know some of us thinks yeah what was the point of NCT universe but as u said LSM was with SM at this time and now he is not. And seriously it was all his fault. He let them to join NCT without any plans to debut a new unit for 2+ years. I'm pretty sure this was not a one day discussion and was hard to decide. I think they will have more potential to shin in there own ways with the new Boygroup. I am so thankful for Sungchan and Shotaro for there time in NCT and will always support them. In case of Eunseok and Seunghan i am happy that they at least are staying with SungTaro can't wait to see them together with other members in the new SMBG. I hope Shohei recovers soon and we can see him in the future. i will definitely watch the pre debut show it will be nice to see more behind the scenes for sm training. Lastly i want to say that i saw some positive aspects with the new SM 3.0 system for the last aespa comeback they said that with the new system they have there own team who is focusing on them and that it's good.

Hey, Jeff. SungSho ult here, so you can probably imagine how this all feels. I'm going to continue stanning NCT of course, I was a pre-Resonance NCTzen and it's been a lot, but I'll always stay as long as the music's excellent and top-notch as it always is, but this is just devastating and heartbreaking. I can only be frank when I say this does not seem like a well-planned or well-thought out execution plan for SM 3.0. At all. It feels rushed, and it feels as if SM is just hopping on the Gen 5 trend rather than actually thinking things through. All of these past few projects: the NCT Ccomaz Grocery Store merchandise, the entirety of Welcome to NCT Universe... what was it for? If this was something they've been planning since the messy HYBE-Kakao-SM drama from a few months ago, then why include SungSho in any NCT content at all at that point? Why create an entire reality show meant to usher in the next generation neos, have us, as a collective fanbase, fall in love with these three new people and their dynamic with SungSho, only to take it all back at such a haphazard notice? I can understand your objective point of view, but I'll respectfully disagree that it makes any sort sense, because as of right now, none of it makes sense to me, not as a fan, and not from a business perspective. NCTzens across social media are either similarly devastated that SungSho are lowkey just being played around with, or just straight-up angry. I will also respectfully disagree that the reality show will be tuned in by NCTzens, because if social media is any indication, it was announced pretty much at the worst possible timing imaginable. The announcement makes it seem as if SungSho are being kicked out of NCT to make way for other members, and it feels even sketchier when they filmed WTNCTU specifically to promote the brand in Japan. Not to mention, Sungchan has been learning Japanese for years at this point, likely expecting to have debuted in an official NCT Tokyo unit. I know this may not necessarily be the case behind the scenes, but it's what it *seems* like from the outside looking in. Of course I'll be supporting Sungchan, Shotaro, Eunseok, and Seunghan and their new boy group... but it'll be hard to stomach that we're getting a full NCT concert and a 4th NCT album this year and *none* of the SungTaRookies are included. I'm devastated for Sungchan, Shotaro, and Shohei especially because all of them have been waiting for this opportunity to be in NCT for literal years, and now it looks as if it's been stripped away from them.
