Stone House

This is a longer, expanded comic based on a comic I made like 6 years ago after I quit BuzzFeed. Maybe you remember it!

In 2017 I rented a car and drove around the French countryside, where I came across dozens of tiny stone shacks dotting the landscape. Most of them were way out in fields, and they were all decrepit and abandoned. They were most likely used in the past by field workers or sheep herders, but now they stood empty and forgotten.

I explored a few of them and couldn’t stop thinking about the people who used them ages ago, and what kind of lives they led. I thought about someone coming to stay in one of these huts and performing some sort of secret ritual. Maybe lots of people have done the same ritual before...

Oooo the split day/night page is gorgeous

Isa

To be fair, they're kind of everywhere

Rose Lafeuille

this reminds me of the ending of Vivarium

A Jupiter

Oo can someone tell me where in the French countryside? I'm going to France soon and would love to find some to explore..and maybe leave some fingernails buried in the dirt ;)

Clare Follmann

This is gorgeous! There’s a new Salad Fingers episode that follows a similar story

Denny O

Might not want to, just the cycle of life and accepting her time. Like when people are ready to have kids. Kind of the same thing πŸ˜…πŸ€£

Flufflestan

I'm guessing because she's a newborn, and newborn are bald? lol

Giulia Carvelli

Why'd she stay bald at the end? 🀣

Goddess Anya

But why does she wants to grow old and die?

marge

I thought I had read something like this from you before! Beautiful creation.

wowwie

This was amazing!

CandyCane Benedict

Damn wish my hair looked that good 😊

Kara

I am aesthetically obsessed with how you draw hands, in every comic I could just look at people's hands for minutes before moving on to the next panel. Wonderful work :)

doodlejule

Moments like this are what make you a great storyteller.

Kyle Michel Sullivan

This reminds me of a short manga I read called Mugen Tengoku with a similar (and yet still very different) premise. I'd highly recommend it!

Kappathefish

F*k those filmmakers who obviously tried to steal your story. You're amazing and so glad you do what you do

Pizzacake Comics

A new supreme will rise.

Cassie Greeley

Sweet

jΓΊlia bozzino

your mind is so creative!

Jin N Tonic

Yeah! That was wild to see; often, because of the fact of simultaneous invention in art, it's almost impossible to prove when people rip ideas, but that film was basically shot for shot. They really couldn't have made it more obvious.

Henry Oliver

For the last 6 years I think of this comic every time I break off a fingernail. Gorgeous.

Kim Searle

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œaw, yisssss, this is the good shit right here.πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Rhonda

I work with folks who do a lot of hole digging/hole filling (that's what she said), and when they're doing roadwork or runway repair, one of the steps is to basically hit the material with some kind of vibratory tool (for asphalt roads you see rollers for this a lot) to shake out any air pockets and get everything to lay as flat as possible. They even have to do it when pouring concrete.

Jeffrey

This turned out to be really beautiful. <3

Brantwijn Serrah

This is really great

Kyle

Same ...

Cara Kulwicki

wow the panel with the hands, original reaching down to the clone, like the Creation of Man is subtle but powerful

Gee El

So many great Miyazaki references!

Andrew Kilcup

oh this is darling <33

Flare TheGunCalamity

Isn’t this the comic that got ripped off to make a short film? Or was that a different one?

Katlin Kerrison

Adam, the way you’ve extended this story is absolutely beautiful.

Daniel Carter

Removed dirt is less compacted than undisturbed ground. Whenever I’ve done digging work there is always β€œmore” dirt than fits back perfectly in your hole when you didn’t bury anything just because it isn’t compacted anymore, more air, expanded, etc

PlunderBunny

Beautiful!

Reddy

So if you dig a big hole, put a pebble in and fill it back up you suddenly have a big mound? In my experience the extra size comes mostly from what you bury and a little from the looser earth... πŸ™‚

Armin

because it's based on the size of the hole that was dug, not based on the object that was buried :)

Emz

Love the story and graphics, then I get hung up on stupid questions like why would there be such a mound after only burying a fingernail clipping?

Armin

The coloring is amazing! I was mesmerized by the fried egg πŸ™ˆπŸ’–

Ikena

I looove those outdoor scenes with the house! The colors, shadows, crispness, atmosphere, everything. I would love a landscape painting like that on my wall!

Elina Sellgren

I know it's marked "horror", but it didn't hit me like that. It was bittersweet.

Maria

oh yeah! i remember the original version!! used to be one of my fav comic, still is btw! but this version?!! EVEN MORE INTERESTING

Yuutsu

Perspective. Her feet are closer to the "camera" than the rest of her.

Asteria Bates

Beautiful story!

Michele Phelps

Why her feet so fucking big

Hemopheliia

I love that!

Emalee Gissberg

That was absolutely beautiful!!!!!

Alien_Unicorn13

Came here to say exactly this!

Lily Rowan

I think it was all just a few minutes. It seems to me like an iterative immortality thing, creating a new clone of yourself to live on, and then letting your true age catch up to you.

Ansixilus

That was beautiful.

Shanda

I have wanted the ending to that story for so long! Thank you

Lauren

Ooh I do remember the original one, but WOW this one is even more fascinating.

Tamara Mendelson

This makes me think of Little House in the Sea ❀️ 🌊 🏑

Teela Marie Golden

Wait did she age all at once or did it take years but the other never aged!?

Dann Dykas

What a sweet expansion to an old favorite πŸ₯°

Rodrigo Velazco

Looking for the horror but just finding a cute immortal witch doing self care. 😁

UpstandingGoose

Feels like the birthing of a Witch? In a really cool way obvs

Sage Louise

That's a Ghibli -level egg right there

Amelia Ross

Same!! Very circle of life/renewal

Amelia Ross

Exactly my thoughts.

Chevanne

This is so beautiful.

Abrilas

Ahhh I do remember the original! Fantastic work, Adam!

Twirl Yuu

I sadly don't get this one. Like at all. Sorry :/ totally my problem not yours

Kelly Broomhall

Aw this actually kind of felt emotional. So freaking happy you gave this comic an ending.

dvdanno

I know they are supposed to be two different people- but I like to think it's the same person- just saying goodbye to her old self, thanking her for getting them this far, and moving on ❀️

KVLott

The backgrounds and the lighting are absolutely gorgeous.

Kathryn Fox

I'm so impressed with how good you have gotten as an artist from style to composition(!) to color and storytelling! I can't wait to read your new book when it comes out

Paul Westover

This reminded me of the one about the girl and her mom on the island.

Nandi

This is beautiful. I love it.

Natalie Burton

this made me feel things

Ves

I really, really love this.

Kyle Rohen

Oh my god, this is amazing. I know so very many witches who would lose their shit over this. πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Jeremy Bredeson

I know you tagged it horror, but aside from the slight morbidity, I actually find a lot of beauty and reassurance in it.

SeraphicSiren

Probably as simple as "new life"

Racheal Winson

Ooh I want to do that ritual.

Marchmain

she took it off

cal

what is the significance of the leaf on the tree?

cal

I’m a lover of the tongue in cheek, 😜 (I was typing what you said, but autocorrect is trying to make me less nasty) lol

Ronniford

This is gorgeous. Also, I sense some Ghibli influence in that egg and toast :3

Grace 'Gengar' Soria

As always, beautiful.

Chad Cloete

I love it

Redcloud

I love when you make work with themes involving the circle of life and our participation in it, always hauntingly beautiful

Sarah Miller

What happened to her earring?

Kev Hamm

Why did no one tell me I can grow my own friends? The betrayal.

Vasquez

Amazing 😍 Horror or wholesome πŸ˜‚

Sjmme

I’m too trained by this author. I read β€œwh*reticulture”. Now requesting hottie witch alternates πŸ₯². I apologize in advance.

TeaJ

This is strangely soothing.

Dahlton Burke

Makes me wanna take up horticulture

Ronniford

I know you tagged this horror, but it feels kind of really sweet somehow?

Sarah D

I'm so traumatized by this man that I expected this comic to go very differently x) beautiful strip πŸ’–πŸ’

Goobzilla91

Love the new addition!!!!

Ronniford

oh i remember this one! that got stolen by some indie filmmakers right? i like this new version and expansion

Summer J
