Oh and yes, Combo stealing the baby Jesus was revealed back in the season 2 finale of Breaking Bad :)

It's a bit amusing how you think that this future stuff was planned from the beginning, just because they had that scene in the series pilot :D If you ever check out some interviews with Gilliang, Gould, Schnauz and company... they are incredibly open about their approach and how they think that planning is not a good idea. They write things they think are good, constantly ask themselves what state of mind their characters are in and what they want to achieve and then they write towards that. And they often write themselves into a corner on purpose, because that way they force themselves to come up with creative solutions. Like the phone call that was set up in season 4. Back then they had zero clue who would be on the phone. Or Jimmy and Kim's fate... they talked about it for years, but you can't make up your mind on what they deserve until you know what they've actually done. It's super organic.

I highly recommend you checkout the Youtube channel 'Courtney's Reviews'. She goes into so much analytical detail about each episode, she's a literature or film studies professor I think, definitely worth checking out her videos on this season's episodes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PtTWgOI27k - link to her video analysis for this episode

It's funny Neil, your ending line is exactly what so many people have said about this final season. "It didn't go in the direction I thought they were setting up, but everything that happened here makes total sense and better than I could have imagined'. It's the same as what Pete Peppers and others said in their commentary. The show is so good at surprising you but there isn't a single beat where you think oh that doesn't fit here. The same goes for the last episode, very much looking forward to your reaction next Friday.

Rhea Seehorn's acting is just amazing, I think it's the general consensus that she was punishing herself, not making any decisions for herself, if you look at the dialogue at the beginning. The contrast from the call to the happy birthday song was done so well, especially when you consider it was Jimmy's birthday too.
