The Expanse 2x05 - Home - FULL REACTION

Comments

Thanks for the early full reaction, are there plans to do any more this way?

It only gets better from here :) You've basically watched the intro, now the real plot begins. I thought of a few other things I wanted to say but even being super vague they would kinda be spoilers, so... radio silence ;p

Widely regarded as one of the best episodes of sci-fi ever. However, there are some to come that I like better. Not to take anything away from this. It's an amazing piece of television. They just manage to keep topping themselves, these writers... The protomolecule version of Julie has been visiting Miller for quite some time now, since season 1 episode 10, in fact. So that's interesting. Also, she saw him before she died on Eros, wearing the hat he left on Ceres, before he actually got to her. So that's interesting too. Anyway... Dawes to Miller, middle of season 1: "When you have lost everything, you'll find your way home, and it will welcome you." If the series had included superfuturistic, physics-defying things like anti-grav plates, warp drives, force fields and the like, if they didn't go to such pains to try to make the physics as realistic as possible,, the protomolecule would be no big deal to the audience. It would just be another futuristic marvel. As it is, we're as dumbfounded as the characters in the story. WTF is this thing? What is it doing? What does it want? What's it for? Can't stop what work? None of those questions have been answered yet. Prequel over. Now the story (ahem) expands. You're not ready.😁

Ahh, one of the best episodes of Sci Fi ever produced. I loved every minute of this episode even though as a book reader I had advance knowledge of what was to come. It was so beautiful and you are right to note that our love of a character cannot outweigh what is essentially meant to be. that Miller and Julie have found their way "home" in this episode and also save 20 billion lives on Earth in the process. The bird is certainly an enigma. We see the bird at first outside Julie's apartment looking for a few crumbs perhaps. The bird is then coopted by the protomolecule as a way of carrying a message to Miller. He is not attacked by the protomolecule, rather he is welcomed by it in Eros. The bird arrives to show him the way to Julie who is as far as we can understand, waiting for Miller to arrive. Incredible cinematography and music!
