MONDAY MOTIVATION - Balance

Happy Monday! This weeks motivation topic is all about balance, what it is, why we find it hard to maintain and how we can take steps to live a more balanced life! Here are my research noted below but please go ahead and watch the video I have uploaded explaining in more detail :D


What is balance?

* Balance is a state of equilibrium or harmony.

* It involves allocating time, energy, and resources appropriately.

* No single aspect dominates or suffers at the expense of others.

* Priorities must be managed effectively.

* Setting boundaries is important.

* Nurturing different areas of life, such as work, education, relationships, health, and personal well-being, is crucial.


History:

Ancient Greek (the golden mean), traditional Chinese medicine (yin and yang - contrasting forces), Buddism (harmony & interconnectedness) Indigenous wisdom (deep reflection) It has all now been embraced and encouraged

Little thought: think less about balance and more about how contrast is important


Why do we find it hard to maintain balance?

* Overcommitment and lack of time - busy schedules and multiple responsibilities

* Cultural and societal pressures - feel the need to always be on the go and prioritise productivity and material success

* Technological overload and digital distractions - constant distraction and always on mentality

* Lack of clear boundaries between work and personal life - no downtime can lead to burnout

* Inner critic and perfectionism - high standards, fear of failure makes its hard to allocate time for self care

* Shifting priorities and life circumstances - life happens and can disrupt our routine/balance we’ve worked on

* Lack of mindfulness and presence in the moment - hard to allocate our energy and attention to what is important


How do we find more balance?

- [ ] Prioritise and set clear boundaries - make sure you’re aligned with your core values and what’s really important to you and know what needs to get done and when

- [ ] Time management and organisation - preparation and allocation are key. Make schedules and create routines

- [ ] Practise self care - engage in activities that nourish your physical, mental and emotional well being. Execrise, nutrition, sleep and relaxation. Find hobbies and creative outlets that bring you joy.

- [ ] Work life integration - try to allow them to work together side by side than a super strict separation, designate time for each and allow for personal activities on the side of getting things done

- [ ] Regularaly assess and adjust - you don’t always have to stick to something you once decided worked for you, we continue to evolve and grow so it’s important to reassess what is and isn’t working to keep the scales aligned
