Wait

“What the fuck is she doing?” Sara asked herself as she lit the joint in her hand. Despite Colorado being the first state to legalize pot, she still had a slight rush of adrenaline anytime she did it. As if someone was going to arrest her for smoking weed in some deserted back alley.

It was their Thursday ritual. Sara would finish her shift, skate to the shop Kate worked at, and wait for her to come out the back door. They’d light a blunt, have a few beers and talk about the shit they had to deal with since the previous Thursday. They loved it. A moment outside of time and problems.

Last night, however, Kate hadn’t replied to Sara’s text telling her she’d be there by 6. It wasn’t the first time her friend ghosted her on a Wednesday, but the virus’ seasonal return had everyone expect the worst. It was predictable by now. Every September, kids went back to school, exchanging germs aplenty and happily sharing them with their parents at the end of the day. Rinse and repeat. The vaccine helped, of course, but it wasn’t a foolproof solution. Some poor bastards still ended up the size of a gnat despite getting regular shots.

“When the odds are this much against you, it’s only a matter of time before fate fucks you in the ass…” at least that’s how Sara had always rationalized it. Everyone had their own way to keep their nerves in check. You had to.

Sara took a drag on her joint and pulled her phone out.

<I’m there. where u at?> 6:03 PM

Pressing the send button, Sara absentmindedly flicked the hanging ash off the blunt. However, amidst the burning particles falling towards the ground, something else caught her attention. The smallest bit of movement in the corner of her eye - too predictable to just be incandescent dust in the wind. Shrinkies.

“Poor fuckers…” Sara scoffed, blowing the smoke out of her lungs, not actually finding much pity in her for the critters down by her shoes. There was something hypnotizing about watching the little things go about. The way they’d scatter in fear at her slightest movement. Their inaudible pleas for help or mercy - whichever they believed she’d be more likely to offer. Some ran, some watched, some froze. It was so natural to expect animalistic behavior from the little things. A sort of herd mentality guiding them all towards a single goal. However, these weren’t bugs with millions of years of evolution guiding their every move. As hard to remember as it was, there were tiny conscious minds in those fragile bodies.

Sara watched for a while. One, in particular, had been running for a moment. Frantically, it seemed, though she couldn’t be certain from her point of view. She found it particularly amusing that this fleeing shrinky had barely covered the length of her shoe by the time she’d smoked half her joint. There was no running fast or to the side. There was no escaping. If for any reason, be it boredom or cruelty, she felt like bringing her foot down, this little bug could do nothing to stop it.

“Gosh it must suck…” she whispered to herself, her thoughts escaping her lips without intent. “At least Kate and I keep you guys fed. With all the takeout leftovers we leave here, you guys can eat anything you want any time.” Sara said, feeling slightly crazy talking to shrinkies this small.

As the burning tip of her joint got closer to her slender fingers, something else caught her attention. A group of the little things had gathered by her right foot. They seemed very interested by the exposed sole of her sneaker, or more likely, something on it. Was it food? Gum? Dog shit? Sara couldn’t tell from here. However, as she observed the small crowd long enough, she quickly understood.

“Hope it was some dude you hated, guys… Oh no, I know. She was this dude’s girlfriend, but she actually fucked your whole little colony behind his back. Well, it’s probably dead. They’re probably dead? How many did I get?” Sara joked to herself, not thinking for an instant about the effects her thunderous words had on the shrinkies down at her feet. “Is it a brunette? Pretty tall- well you know what I mean. Green eyes, a sleeve tattoo on her right arm? Named Kate?” Sara continued nonchalantly, turning her attention back to her phone to see if her friend had replied. “Cause being a tiny ass shrinky is about the only excuse she’d have to stand me up…” her voice trailed off as her phone buzzed.

<Coming. Bitch got me on inventory duty. Be out in a minute> 6:12 PM

“Or be on inventory duty, I guess…” Sara thought as she left a thumbs up on Kate’s message.

Without warning or care, she brought her sole down, dealing a swift death to any shrinky still mourning beneath it. The tiny critters were already forgotten, their desperate attempts to flee and survive too small to be detected. In the distance, burning heat washed over the panicked survivors. The sizzle of burning flesh drowned under screams of pain.

Kate was finally coming out and Sara was ready to leave. She casually flicked the joint’s butt away, drawing a shocked expression on Kate’s face.

“Really? You couldn’t wait 10 more minutes?”

Some of you might recognize the inspiration. This render pays tribute to a good friend and an amazing creator from the size community - Sara. I reached out to her many years ago after she starred in a pretty awesome size video. She didn't know much about our little fantasy back then, but let's say that it put some great things in motion, considering the awesome content she's created since then.

In any case, I hope you'll like this new piece!
