I never understood the hatred for this movie either. I have friends who said this movie ruined the entire series for them, which I thought was really crazy. Fun fact: the reason the fourth movie feels so out of place is because it's actually based on a book from the 90s called On Stranger Tides that Disney decided to turn into a Pirates of the Caribbean movie by inserting Jack Sparrow into it.
