Tempus Quest: Episode 0 is here!

Tempus Quest is our 2019 "not-roll & write" game. Instead of dice, you will use the date and time for setup and randomization as your work your way through a series of pen and paper games. Similar, but different, to our 2018 series, Legends of Dsyx. This time, Chris Anderson (In Vino Morte) is on design, and Dsyx designer Robin Gibson has stuck around for art and layout.

A printed copy of Episode 1 is coming in our January packages, along with a digital version you can print and play over and over. Those packages are getting closer but there are so many little pieces that they aren't quite here yet. In the meantime, we're giving away Episode 0 so that everyone can get some hands on with the game system.

Tempus Quest is also part of our Pocket Universe, a world of sci-fi games such as Twin Stars, Liberation, Anthelion: Conclave of Power, Pod-X, Universal Rule and many more. While those games are dealing with everything from running a space bar to manipulating all out war, Tempus Quest is the little story of the otherwise unknown crew of the Tempus. You'll learn a little bit about each of them as we go.

We hope that you enjoy Tempus Quest! We just added a new Tempus Quest channel at the Button Shy Discord and we'll be tracking and sharing high scores over there.

Thanks everyone! Next update is looking deeper at the depths of Chain Mail.

It shouldn't. AFAIK it's black and white.

Matthew Mitchell

... this requires a color printer? I don't have one. :/

Thank you so much! I was GENERALLY playing it more-or-less (?) correctly, but some things I was just not getting. This is terrific! :) And I love your using pen, not pencil... Connections seem massively important!

Matt Upton posted a play through video https://youtu.be/CWiOOnnELT0

I've really been enjoying this. It is actually what got me to join the patreon. Thank you! I just want to check, though -- For the digital level, do you get access to the future levels? Or only the $5+ levels?

Jamie Specht

Thank you Christopher; I can see that now; I'd printed the information out on a B&W printer, and I did not notice the red, circled, filled-in TURN track marks. And on each AI turn, it is going to attempt to re-create the symbol in each column/row, though there will soon be lots of filled spaces, and those additional drawings will move to next available spots... (I'm getting there :)

John Corbally

The alert track is the long track with 50 spaces. The round tracker is the short one at the end of the turn tracks. At the end of a round you will fill in one space on the round tracker and one space on the alert track. When you “use any action” you fill in 2 spaces on the alert track.

Christopher Anderson

Ah.. I think the top row meters ARE the Alert Track (so 7 spots on the alert track, no?

John Corbally

I was assuming it is the 10 spots on the meter on the right (or course each of those spots has 5 segments, but I can't imagine we get 50 of those action points), but, yes, do the 7 meters on the top figure in too?

John Corbally

Uhhh... I feel out of my depth here (LOL). I'd love to see a little bit of gameplay showing the moves (or at least some screen shots demonstrating what the board looks like when you take various actions). I will fiddle with it, and it will likely all become crystal! But I feel like I'm missing some important THING. :)

John Corbally

I was wondering that too as the icons are very similer and the +2 alert option looks like the smaller track

Tom Shepherd

Pretty cool little game/puzzle. I imported into Goodnotes and was able to fill it out using my Apple Pencil. I even made stickers out of the various shapes. Wish I could share a pic here.

James Bass

Don’t know if my previous comment posted correctly. Quick gameplay question. If I take the penalty for doing the action of my choice, do I use the long alert track on the right hand side or the “round tracker” in the upper left, that also has an alert icon near it?

Andy Elder

One quick gameplay question: if I’m using the “+2 alert” ability to use any action type, does that penalty go in the large alert track along the right hand side? Or in the “round tracker” alert track in the upper right hand corner?

Andy Elder

whew! I thought you read both rules and were still that puzzled. :)

Button Shy

OK. The original download was just incomplete then.

David White

I'm a little puzzled as to actually how to play this game. Are there basic rules somewhere?

David White

Ah, thanks. The new link points to a folder with three files. :)

James M.

Check the link above, the original link wasn’t to the complete folder.

I was going to ask the same thing. Am I missing something obvious, or are the rules for this game not posted yet?

James M.

Are there instructions for using this system?
