Question Regarding Seeing Art Sooner

Does that kind of thing entice you to support an artist on Patreon? I've seen some people put it behind the wall and I thought about doing it. Is that a big deal for you?

Comments

its definitely a big deal, i mean if some one doesnt give any benefits and its just for supporting said person theres no real reason to support them of course the patreon only voting and live streams helps a great deal....especially the sketch-a-thon streams...although if you end up getting too many people pledging for that it will turn into more of a pain then anything

It depends on the audience you want to have in the end. The people that will pledge for your art will definately value you more, both as an artist and as a person. This will probably mean you will see alot of pirating happening tho. Paywalls aren't something I consider important personally, since most artists that have actually done awesome in the fandom never did anything like taht and they tend to have the public's support, compared to others.

Early and high-res access are great incentives for Patreon supporters! Putting exclusive content on Patreon becomes problematic. From a art-as-a-business perspective, having your art out in the world for the public garners more interest, commissions, and revenue. Artists who put work behind a pay-wall may see diminishing foot traffic!

Either seeing art sooner or keeping it to only those who pay is pretty much the go to reason why people would pledge. You have to keep a good balance of what show only your Patreon and what to release at a later date. There's no incentive to support a Patreon if you can get all the goodies just by waiting an additional week or two, and making everything exclusively behind a paywall will cause people to pirate it in some way, shape, or form. If you ask me, you should delay the release for maybe half to three quarters of the art you make, and share the rest with the supporters.

That's the main reason I'll support an artist. If they don't have exclusive art, I tend to not pledge.
