For me what made the scene hit so hard, was her asking about the cat's name. And the end Theo pointing out how inhumane she treated them without realising it. Not even asking their names, when she did ask about the cat's. Heart wrenching.

Moin GAZ ;) You asked for something you missed. Did you see which card Kaie / KirschblΓΌte droped at the end of the game ? Well 86 hits like a hammer in every episode. First there is a scene showing the girls have fun in the river and suddenly BOOM someone is dead. BTW dead characters: In the opening are 2 pictures counting the living and the dead characters. Can you locate them ? CYA soon ;)

Agree... This has started out so massive on the emotions. That speech was so powerful and delivered so incredibly well by the VA, it took me back and very much by surprise. This is going to be one hell of a journey πŸ’―

Metal Lover

That last scene is the moment I fell in love with this anime. It's a raw, emotional outburst that puts into words everything the characters lived through and have felt until that moment. Lena speaks of the Processor who saved her life as a hero who wants to defend their country; but the other side of the coin is that the Processors themselves don't have a choice in the matter, they are "forced" to fight against the Republic's enemies, whether they want to or not. Lena feels that their daily conversations are a way to get closer to the 86 and, by helping them, she feels she's fighting with them; but the 86 are the ones on the real battlefield, fighting and dying. When the 86 win a fight, they go back to their barracks and kill time until the next attack; on the other hand Lena will just go back to her own life: walking around the city, relaxing, eating cake. Things the 86 would never be able to do. And that last line: "you've never even asked for our real names". Discrimination isn't always explicit, and Lena doesn't willingly discriminate against them just on the basis of being 86. Yet this is a problem that runs deep and is ingrained in the Alba's society. They're not wrong about it: just because she says "we shouldn't discriminate against you" doesn't mean that she isn't doing it too, albeit without realising it herself. And the worst part is, there is only one name that she asked for in the entire episode. And it was the cat's name. It was only a 2-minuntes scene, and yet it said so much. 18:37 in Japanese she says "shoujo". One of its possible translations is indeed "virgin", but more commonly it simply means "girl", "maiden". What she said was basically "are you a little girl"/"pure maiden".

Mephistopheles

There's an expression that people will speak their truth when they're either angry or drunk. Theo's rant is a very impactful moment of dialogue. Taken almost word for word from the light novel. The tone set by the frantic piano playing & watching Lena's expression of utter dismay. This really emphasized how the processors, the 86, collectively feel about the Alba's & the Republic's hypocrisy.
