This is actually a recent anime, it came out in 2019 (although the manga started in 2013), but you guessed the music theme right. But, in addition to focusing on the music&band part, it also analyses very well the characters themselves, and their inner world and personality. Plus the ED is indeed performed by the main character. It's also one of the most well-known BL anime (M/M romance).
