As much as this episode is painful and sad, I honestly feel like this one in particular is the one that is the most different from the LN. This chapter in the LN was... brutal. And told from Aidan's POV, which really underlined every single thought crossing his mind in those moments, almost in a stream of consciousness style. KyoAni most likely toned down the violence of the soldiers because, again, it would have probably been way too brutal to depict.

After episode 10, I totally forgot how profoundly emotional I felt after this episode. Of everything I’ve watched over the years, anime’s have consistently broke me emotionally unlike any other type of media. Now, I understand why Yui Ishikawa was cast as the voice of Violet Evergarden.
