Askeladd's last words to Thorfinn really did have some sort of effect later on as Thorfinn's thoughts were of Askeladd trying to finally pull him out of a shitty situation before he confessed to Einar that he no longer hated Askeladd. You've gotta love the old master, trying his best to help Einar and especially Thorfinn without babying them or going soft on them, really one of the MVPs' this season. Arnheid really is starting to turn into a tragic character, with the exception of Ketil's wife no one hates her, but in return Ketil has become dependant on her for support and isn't willing to part with her and now she's trapped in a situation where she doesn't want to be with seemingly no hope of escaping. Arnheid will end up playing a much larger part in the story and development for Thorfinn and Einar come the second half of season 2. All of the frustration from the past two episodes will pay off come episode 9. Episode 9 is amazingly adapted from the manga and is one of the greatest episodes between season 1 & 2 combined.
