The beginning backstory for Einar and his family was exclusive to the anime and wasn't in the manga, so right away studio MAPPA is proving they have what it takes to skillfully adapt season 2 and add meaningful content. It may be a morbid way of thinking, but realistically Lotta got off easy when she was killed considering how most women were treated by the vikings. And on that subject, seeing as you mentioned how rough this first episode was then prepare yourself accordingly. There will be many instances in season 2 that are hard to watch, even downright disturbing, even compared to what we've seen in season 1 (those of that are familiar with the series know what I'm talking about.) Season 2 will NOT be like season 1. Season 2 is focused entirely on character development and growth, there is very little action and when there is action it usually serves to build and develop characters and to show the conflict within them. If that's what you like then you're sure to love this season.

2023-09-02 20:44:22 +0000 UTCI’m sure what caught your eye in the beginning of the episode is the difference in animation style. If you thought that, then, You would be right. Season 2 was done by MAPPA studios.
