Tojis final thoughts were that he would've normally attempted to escape, as he had no reason to fight Gojo for free (he had already completed his mission) . However after seeing Gojo in his awakened state, he realised what he was witnessing was essentially the epitome of Jujutsu Sorcery in a singular individual. Due to his complex of constantly being deemed inferior for not having Jujutsu as a Zenin, he attempted to kill Gojo, going against his own intuition. As it would mean he would've defeated the apex Jujutsu sorcerer, thereby freeing him of the complex that he has been burdened with his entire life. Toji literally is in like 4 episodes but he is more than just a brutal killer, there's more to his character than that. He's obviously a bad person but the Zenin clan created this monster of a man by rejecting him. Also, those people at the end were from the religious group that wanted Riko dead, which is why they were clapping. They were clapping because the Star Plasma Vessel was dead right in front of them. Gojo asked Geto if they should kill them and Geto seemingly held himself back, still trying to be the "reasonable" person but you can tell that he wanted to end them all right there. The "THROUGHOUT HEAVEN AND EARTH, I ALONE AM THE HONORED ONE" line Gojo says when he's about to use Purple is something Buddha himself said in Buddhism belief. When someone uses that line, they are considered incredibly arrogant but Gojo literally just came back from the brink of death and "unlocked" everything about curse energy. He couldn't even use Red before and now he was not only effortlessly doing that, he also used Purple - which as he said only a few in the Gojo clan even knew about.
