And before that they were only told that the people in Paradis were legit evil. But then come to find out they're not. They're literal human beings who feel and experience things the same way as they do. And also remember the fact that Reiner has PTSD and split personality between the warrior and the soldier. Let me tell you this much: In Attack on Titan, everyone thinks that their way is the righteous and correct way. (Well, not every single character but the main forces)
