Charge Upfront

Patreon's finally rolling out a long-desired feature. I am switching my campaign to charge upfront. Hopefully this will both clear up declined pledges and make it easier to distribute rewards.

What this means for you

If you are an existing patron, nothing really changes for you. You will be charged on the first of each month as always, but the key difference is that it will be for the coming month instead of the previous month. So, when you get charged on June 1, it will be for June content, and not for May content.

For new patrons who have not yet pledged, you will be charged immediately for May when you set your pledge. Then, on June 1, you will be charged for June content, same as the existing patrons.

Now, there's a weird grey area for patrons who have pledged after May 1 but before I switch the campaign. Frankly, I don't know what Patreon's system will do in that case. But, to lessen the headache, here's what I'm gonna do.

Since I'm cutting into a fair bit of May finishing the comic pages for the April package, patrons who pledge in May will receive the April package as well (including the Kaleina comic!). So, for everyone, there should be only one payment for April through May.

Existing patrons paid for April-May on May 1.

New patrons before June 1 will pay for April-May when they pledge.

On June 1, all patrons will be charged for June.

Basically, May will be a "free" month, and people who came a little late will still get their high-res copies of the Kaleina comic. Everyone wins!

I'll figure out the logistics of distributing rewards at a later time, but the charge upfront switch is effective immediately.
