Great episode, A+ for me. I love seeing the flip side of Troi, Data and O'Brian. Data's aggression towards Worf is funny as hell.

Also, to be clear, what is to be feared, in the context of Star Trek for such immortal beings to exist? It's understandable in our time, with the duel fiction, not actually in the Bible at all, heaven and he'll, and the consequences of not believing, but for someone in Picard's time, where they are generations into discovering new thing? What fear? Why would he have any? Now.. again, from the perspective of a believer in our own time, the concept of such things "not existing" shpukd be terrifying. All those promises, both of reward in eternity, and the false promise of justice not found in life - as though endless torture for even minor offenses (and to be clear, the Bible isn't just saying that murderers are going to hell, but everyone that fails to follow the exact rules to salvation, of which there are a dozen conflicting lists)... That would absolutely terrifying me if I thought it was at all real, and more so if I believed it and was convinced I would be saved, but "whoops, it might not really be real!" By comparison, a ghost... is about as scary as a plastic skeleton.

Because, "everything g we ever come across is never supernatural", is somehow never a sensible answer for some people...

Trivia: Marina Sirtis jacked up her back when she flopped on her back in the scene on the planet. So Troi is still suffering. In silence.

I've always loved this episode. Maybe Picard's resistance towards believing in ghosts and spirits, despite encountering weird aliens and god-like beings stems from some kind of religious fear, where the existence of one proves the existence of something beyond what he wants to encounter. Just a thought that popped into my mind while watching the discussion.

This is one of my favorites when I was younger that has gone down a bit for me over the years. I still like it, but wouldn't put it as highly as I once did - maybe a B+ for me today. It's definitely different, but still in some ways it strikes a similar idea to me as Conundrum but isn't as good.
