She and Geordi were reunited to help figure out what was going on with their fellow crewmates from a prior ship, knowing that they could possibly need saved from the same problem. From TNG on, all of starfleet uses the Enterprise eninsignia design for their communicators.

If this had been the 1960s, William Theiss would have made a gravity-defying dress for her. "Theiss opted not to return after the first season (of Star Trek: The Next Generation), partly due to Roddenberry's...attorney and business partner Leonard Maizlish, who 'destructively' meddled with the creative decision making for the new series..." Theiss died in 1992 at the age of 61.
