Billy T. Riker

No child scarring is complete without The Zanti Misfits...but The Sixth Finger was cool.

Blu Holbein

TZ episode 81. Nothing in the Dark is profound

Blu Holbein

To be fair...I decoupaged it to my J-tray....because it's also really cool...but I'm nearly 60 now...I can handle my shit now...right.

Blu Holbein

Me, too

Collin Freeman

Zanti Misfits still makes me super-creeped..they combine multiple phobias.

Blu Holbein

Outer Limits: Zanti Misfits is my undoing....pure night-terror fuel

Blu Holbein

Kolchak: The Night Stalker I won't give episode titles since those give the 'monster of the week' away (spoilers), but I'll just say Episode 1, 4, and 5. Outer Limits I echo episodes that have already been mentioned here, including: The Zanti Misfits Demon with a Glass Hand Soldier I, Robot Cold Hands, Warm Heart The Sixth Finger

Collin Freeman

I believe we have seen all of these. Original Twilight Zone recommendations will need to be a deep cut.

Josh (Target Audience)

60s Twilight Zone: Time enough at Last, The Obsolete Man, A Kind of Stopwatch, People are alike all over, Living Doll, A Stop in Willoughby, To Serve Man

Luke

Awesome, thanks for the long list Anthony! BTW in case you missed it, you were one of the video sponsors in yesterday’s YouTube video

Josh (Target Audience)

Awesome! Have never seen an episode of the original!

Josh (Target Audience)

All of THE OUTER LIMITS would be great but since that probably can’t happen, how about… The Galaxy Being The Architects of Fear The Sixth Finger The Man Who Was Never Born Nightmare The Zanti Misfits The Bellero Shield Cold Hands, Warm Heart Demon With A Glass Hand Among many others! Very excited that you’re doing this series. It’s a real favourite.

Jonathan Llyr

Anthony Bernacchi

We will eventually get to 90s Outer Limits but wanted to explore the original first. Same thing with Tales From the Darkside before watching Monsters. We’ve seen the majority of the original Twilight Zone so including the 80s series as well made more sense there.

Josh (Target Audience)

The Hitchhiker from the TZ. Other than Zanti Misfits, I couldn't get into the Outer Limits. Also, I know of the Hitchhiker anthology (HBO?) but I never watched it.

Michael Figueroa

I forgot about "The Hitchhiker"! That had some pretty good stories in it!....or are you referring to the specific episode in The Outer Limits?

Monty Crawford

Man, that's a pretty tough order to fill. I can't think of any specific episodes to recommend. You should also include the 1990's "The Outer Limits" reboot. There were some good episodes in that as well. Night Gallery had a few good ones, but it started suffering from "production hell" halfway through it's first season, and the series suffered accordingly.

Monty Crawford

I'm with ya! lol no worries

Darin Wagner

I wasn’t ascribing that to you personally either, only responding to the thought process in general

Josh (Target Audience)

Oh I agree. It's good to know TA isn't like that.

Darin Wagner

Laughing my ass off at Freddy Krueger’s jokes (which I do frequently) is not an endorsement of the actions of a fictional character who is literally written to be one of the most evil beings to ever exist. I understand if someone is turned off by the character in general, but if they were into him until the molester canon they are essentially this Community meme - https://imgur.com/a/yy5IXaU

Josh (Target Audience)

Night Gallery, The Cemetery, Green Fingers. Tales FTD, inside the Closet, Strange Love. Outer Limits, The Zanti Misfits. TZ 60s, The Hitchhiker, The Howling Man, The Masks, Living Doll, Escape Clause, A Nice Place to Visit.

Michael Figueroa

That sounds very sensible -- hopefully there'll be an audience for any of these shows beyond the original TWILIGHT ZONE!

The Sultan

Outer Limits season 2 episode 2, Shatner!

marty63026

Excellent comment! Greatly appreciate the detail here! Only thing I’ll add is that while we won’t be sticking to release order for The Horror Gallery, there is no limit on how much of any series we watch. If Tales From the Crypt or any other series garners more interest than others we will feature that series more frequently for sure.

Josh (Target Audience)

FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES - S01E01 is one of 8 x episodes in the series that features Freddy as the main antagonist and this episode is directed by the great Tobe Hooper! FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES - S01E14 is an early Brad Pitt performance well before he was famous for anything. FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES - S02E04 is another Freddy featured episode, but I've heard that this is one of the best episodes of the series (at least by reputation). --------------------------------- FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES - S01E12 is directed by David Cronenberg! FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES - S02E11 is regarded as one of the show's two best episodes. FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES - S02E16 is regarded as the other best episode. --------------------------------- NIGHT GALLERY - PILOT EPISODE has a segment directed by a 23 year old Steven Spielberg. And he also directed S01E11. NIGHT GALLERY - S01E16 is reputedly one of the show's best. --------------------------------- TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE and TALES FROM THE CRYPT are a fascinating watch and its hard to recommend specific episodes because, in the 1980's, horror anthology shows were a haven where old stars went to have one last hurrah and big stars went to write or direct for the first time or shake loose their genre chains. TALES FROM THE CRYPT - especially - is a parade of the biggest movie stars and directors of the 1980s-early 2000s literally doing horror anthology to "cut loose". Arnold Schwarzenegger directed for the first time. Zemeckis and Donner often directed episodes for the fun of it. Whoopi Goldberg, Michael J Fox and Joe Pesci did the only horror acting of their careers in this show. And no, doing these name drops doesn't even touch on sheer volume of A-list stars who 'slum it' to be in TALES FROM THE CRYPT, just for the chance to do something different and play in the horror genre. I truly believe that you can't skip your way through TALES FROM THE CRYPT, it has potential to be a solid series to work through every episode over the next couple of years. TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE - same sort of vibe, but for famous actors and directors of the 1970's and early 80's (many that you will recognize). The showrunner was the one and only George Romero and it was a platform where he got to write a lot of episodes himself as well. However if I had to pick any episodes, personally I think you might enjoy S01E09 for its Trek connections and S02E08 which FUTURAMA rather famously parodied. --------------------------------- THE TWILIGHT ZONE (80s series) kind of has the same deal as TALES FROM THE CRYPT in that there's a lot to enjoy especially with the big guest stars and guest directors like Wes Craven and William Friedkin to name a few. But my picks would be: S01E01 S01E02 S01E04 - contains the second most highly rated story in the series S01E07 - contains the most highly rated story in the series S01E08 S01E09 S01E10 S01E12 S01E15 - contains the third highest rated story in the series S01E16 S01E19 S01E20 S01E24 - contains a story by George R R Martin! S02E03 S02E08+09 (broadcast back-to-back) --------------------------------- I'm not even going to attempt to make a list of original TWILIGHT ZONE episodes. I think it would be easier just to work your way through a ranked list from any of the fan-sites.

The Sultan

I remember the 80s revival of Twilight Zone fondly... but I recently watched it again and I don't think it's AS GOOD as I thought back in the day. Still way better than the next two attempts to revive the series, though. Night Gallery is VERY dated... and you have to get over that in order to get anything out of it. My favorite Night Gallery story was the one with Rodney McDowell and Ozzie Davis. Tales From The Crypt is a hoot. Freddy's Nightmares could be considered "problematic" at this point since the Freddy Krueger character was subtlety retconned over the years into a former child molester and not "just" a child murderer. So laughing at his jokes is harder to do now than back in the day.

Darin Wagner

We are big fans of Night Visions and a discussion on the series will be part of Season 1

Josh (Target Audience)

I loved Friday the 13th the series and Freddy's nightmares when I was little, though found the latter to be kind of sillier and less attached to as it was an anthology shot. The former usually takes itself more seriously, and I liked that followed a small central cast and had spooky vibes. A couple recommends from anthology series that aren't on this list are: * Night Visions (a tv show hosted by Henry Rollins), season 1 ep 3 "A View Through the Window/Quiet Please" * Monsters season 1 ep 4 "The Vampire Hunter"

Vina

Night Gallery pilot, fire 🔥 Night Stalker episode 5 scared the crap out of me as a kid

marty63026

Single episodes, not entire seasons

Josh (Target Audience)

Goodness, that's a LOT of material. You're doing surveys of a season at a time? If you need even MORE (obviously you do!) ... Tales from Tomorrow, One Step Beyond, Hammer House of Horror ... two very old school suggestions and one from the UK!

J Potter

Where Friday the 13th the series is concerned the best episodes are anything to do with the compact I.e Vanitys mirror or Face of evil, Dr Jack is a good one, the scarecrow is a good one, and the root of all evil is another excellent episode. As well as the pilot.

William Peck

I don't know how many of these I'll look at considering I'm not much into horror, especially gory horror. All I have on disc is the original Twilight Zone and Kolchak. Your post did just now trigger a memory of something I saw back in the late 70s. It was a science fiction anthology series but the one episode I saw did have horror elements like Twilight Zone frequently did, and the guest star of the week just happened to be Majel Barrett. Looking at her IMDb page the series was called The Next Step Beyond, and the episode is called "Drums at Midnight". The main thing I remember about it is the ending, which I will of course not spoil.
