Starfleet recognizes other cultures. Worf is allowed to violate the Uniform standards by wearing the sash. In the Klingon culture, Worf would lose his honor if he DIDN'T try to kill the guy that killed his chick. Then again, he was kicked out, so maybe Picard doesn't have to respect his Klingon culture anymore? The issue with Klingons is Death is pretty much the answer, always. Klingon Law 1: Thou shall not kill. Exceptions to Law 1: Kills your mate, death. Accepts criticism from an underling, death. Doesn't tip 15% at restaurants, death. Cracks a joke about your mom, double death.

Well said

First Bat’leth, first Vor’cha, first Gowron! So much great Klingon stuff introduced in this episode. Gowron is my 2nd Favourite Klingon in the franchise (Worf is my 3rd) and it’s great that you guys noted his unique “look”. Robert O’Reilly is one of those Star Trek guest actors who clearly loves his character, and it shows straight from the off.

*Gowron's Eyes are awesome

👍👍👍

Best reaction you've ever done. (Read that in the voice of Ruby Rhod in "The Fifth Element")

Poor Dorf

I thought maybe you'd open the box and it would contain Red Dwarf season 1-6 🤣

A starship named after the navigator/assistant chief engineer that met Trelane? Oh, he was DeSalle. The ship was LaSalle. It looks like DeSalle's actor Michael Barrier just passed away this year at age 90. "After leaving the acting profession to enter law school, he joined the US Coast Guard, and by 1985, with the rank of lieutenant commander..." A Star Trek actor who outranked his own character. I don't know that that has ever happened before.

This episode blew me away when I saw it the first time it ran in 1990. Just a great episode that tugged on so many emotional strings. Worf episodes are always fantastic but this one was amazing.

Lou Trek

Another Frakesy episode. Heget‘s better and better and currently my fav ST director with the new stuff. Btw did you know a ST race was named after Cliff Bole? The Bolians (the blue people)

Carsten Bergner

The big thing is NOT the death of K'Ehleyr. It's the death of Duras. Although that only happened because of the murder of K'Ehleyr.

Sam Langanke

And hands down the death with the hugest consequences for the Klingon Empire.

Now youve met Gowron and your life will be forever improved. And yes, none of us forgive killing off the best guest character. It still hurts

Charlotte Hammond

Gowron is awesome

Eric Singer

You guys really should be commended

Eric Singer

Thank you. It's a lot, but we love it.

The number of hours you guys spend on these edits must be astounding. You sure earn every penny patrons send you. THANK YOU.

Her death is one of the great tragedies of Star Trek lore. Wouldn't change a thing

James Bottas

Was waiting for this one and you guys didn't disappoint. Knew you'd be floored when she returned and floored again when she died. It's sad but her character made such an impact that any more appearances might have been too much. She came and went and we're better for having had her in the show. Can't say that about many of the guest stars...Mr. O'Brian being the exception. Thanks so much 🖖

You know how klingons talk about honour they really only have honour when it works for them

Worf has been raised by humans and adapted to that but Klingons are not humans. Not just different culturally but instinctually all the way to the core of their personalities. Just like wolves are different than dogs. You can raise a wolf to act like a dog but if you put in certain situations you’ll see it’s still a wolf. Worf in Star Fleet is a wolf in a pack of dogs. Highly socialized but still not a dog. As far as Kalar goes, settling disputes by battles to the death is not uncommon in Klingon culture. In Duras’ mind Kalar has no family or house so her murder holds very little risk.

"What did you think of the execution of it?" "The execution was fine." Wait, I thought you didn't like her execution? (sorry, not sorry!) As it happens, the writers really didn't want to kill her off because they loved the character so much. But the story required Worf to kill Duras at its climax and it was the only legitimate reason they could think of to make him go against his duty. Any other circumstance and it felt wrong for him to not obey Starfleet regulations, because Worf is just that obsessed with honour. He needed something that would push him over the edge and I'd imagine having Duras murder Alexander would have been a little too dark. The other way to think about it is that K'Ehleyr had two perfect appearances on the show and that is how she is remembered to this day. If they'd overused her, it may have reduced her impact in the grand scheme of things. The fact that you (and frankly, all of us) got so angry when they killed her really brings home what a great character she was. Imagine if they'd brought back Dr. Pulaski and killed her off - I don't think your reaction would have been quite the same (although you might both have rated the episode an S because of it!)
