so Josh is really Stanley Kubrick in hiding or at least studied under him to learn how to be a supportive director.

The fun thing about the Enterprise-D is that its normal state is mostly empty, even with 1000 crew. The volume of the saucer section alone is utterly vast.

Chris Christison

This is one of the first great "mystery" episodes of Season 4.

Ron Hubbard Jr

If I remember correctly, Eric Menyuk (the Traveler) originally auditioned for the role of Data.

The importance of the various poker scenes and conference room scenes: Beverly being shown that she is bonded both jovially (poker) and seriously (conference) w the other senior staff.

I forget if this was mentioned somewhere, but this was the "sci fi plot" that was cut out of Family to be reused later. So imagine cutting between this plot and Picard dealing with his PTSD. Dodged a huge bullet there.

It's only weird....the first time. 😏

Jovet

Wow, compared to Picard going Borg, I thought this was a real yawner! In fact, I'd forgotten all about it. Hello? Hello...?

Character development is irrelevant

Your love of episodes like this makes me think Star Trek: Voyager will be a low-key favourite of yours. People of waiting for the DS9 hype, but I think Voyager might strike a chord, despite it's mixed reception with fans. It did a lot of the weird stuff.

Who Cares reallly

Yeah, THIS is the type of episode that they should be doing -- especially when not beaming down to other planets or engaging with aliens in heavy makeup and wanting to do a bottle episode to save money. One of the many, many reasons I love the original series so much more than the other series is that TOS did not know what they had yet. Occasionally or often they just made episodes that could have been a Twilight Zone episode. They couldn't make a Star Trek episode yet as no one even knew what Star Trek was yet. The original series hired the best science fiction writers that they could find, and four of the episodes were simply written by fans. I wouldn't rate this episode as highly as you two, but it was much better than many of their dull repetitive ideas. I think there may be other similar Twilight Zone-type episodes like this, but I can't remember and don't want to spoil anything.

You want "weird stuff"? Wait 'til you start Voyager...

Love this episode! I’ll always watch it when it’s on. 😊

I think you can put Geordi's frustration with Wesley in the same category as Riker's frustration with Barclay. Our main characters can be patient with a crewman's quirks and allow them to do experiments, but they still have the job of keeping the ship running. Eventually they have to put their foot down and tell the crew to get their act together so they can get on with their mission.

Huh, I don't see the YouTube link

I don't exactly know why, other than my love of Doctor Crusher, but this one's always secretly been in my private Top 5 episodes. Guilty pleasure, for sure, but I just love it for the spooky thrill ride that it is. It's a perfect example of the "spacial anomaly" category of TNG episode.

ScotchBeard78

I think it's a solid B episode.

Charlie's Illiteracy

Love your love of this one. Anything with Beverly is fire but the twists and turns of the mystery and her experiences are what makes this one so superb. Thanks guys. πŸ––

Gates McFadden is such an excellent actor and it’s so good when they give her material

Michael Collins

Damn... Nailed the plot too fast.
